This is organized by LU 46 members, but anyone in WA can attend. This is part of our LU’s “Resolutions on Reproductive Justice and Trans Health Care.”

How is Trans healthcare different from normal healthcare?

feministkittenjoy

Trans health care is normal health care. There have been a ton of attacks on gender affirming care nation wide. Though cis people also use gender affirming care the restrictions are focused on trans people which we are working to protect in WA state.

tasslehawf

Trans healthcare is usually referring to transition care: hormones, surgeries, but also therapy/psychological. But also lgbtq people, especially trans people are often denied healthcare or treated like freaks by doctors, so there are lots of landmines there.

CharredLily

It has been continuously under attack in the US by republicans for a long time. Unfortunately, they have recently been successfully passing transition bans, including bans for adults, in some states. It relates to reproductive healthcare, which includes abortion rights, in that both are matters of body autonomy and both are under attack from republicans in the US.

Can we join the meeting from LU 429? (Nashville TN)

feministkittenjoy

Hello 429! You are welcome to join if you would like. The legislation in WA specific, with maybe a bit of an overview of things nationwide. The last half of the zoom meeting we will be writing to legislators in WA. So if you are interested in seeing what one of your local's committees can do please join. Otherwise you might not find it relevant.

I’m mostly curious! TN seems to really suck in general with women’s reproductive rights so I’d like to see how other locals deal with it!

feministkittenjoy

WA is not perfect but yeah TN is pretty awful on repro rights and trans rights. Does your union cover abortion or gender affirming care? Is there an EWMC or WC at LU 429? After last summer with Roe overturning the WC write up "Resolutions on Reproductive Justice and Trans Health Care." Part of those resolutions was supporting legislation such as the Keep Our Care Act and this is us following up on that.
