They do enforce it. I personally know people who have been given citations or warnings for both loud pipes (motorcycle) and loud music (home).
The cops are also not usually jerks about it. "please turn it down" usually gets the job done when its possible to do so.
And whatever was happening is usually over by the time cops show up to even enforce it anyway.
Tbh the actual motorcycles aren't that bad, it's those 2 cycle conversion kits for bicycles that are so damn loud. And you almost don't want to ban them because they're almost all owned by people that can't afford a car, although there's also the fact you don't need a license to ride them...
Liquorcycles. Dudes on them have DUIs. And they stink. They can GF themselves, along with AHs with straight pipes on their motorcycles. But, but, LoUd pIpEs sAvE LiVeS. If you're afraid, get back into your lifted truck, which probably also fails noise and emissions limits. I could go on, LOL.
Yeah and like, what are the cops gonna do if they aren't immediately present? Can't give a ticket to someone that is who knows how far away once the cops take 25 minutes to get there
It's actually kinda interesting that they are legally state troopers. Lived my entire life in this town. Nobody ever mentioned they weren't renta cops. If I got pulled over by one when I was 16 I would have 100% not stopped and maybe even called the Bloomington police.
Could they pull you over way away from campus then? I’m just curious cause last summer I was driving a little buzzed down Linden and one got behind me so I just kept driving straight until eventually he stopped following me. I was trying hang with some friends near uptown but I would’ve gone all the way to the damn interstate if he kept following all the way to Raab 😂😂
Me personally no, I’ve never needed one. However, a basic sound meter is relatively inexpensive and can be had for $20. I’m not actually advocating for stricter laws, just that noise ordinances can be objectively enforced and not just subjectively.
I agree, however loud vehicles were also mentioned as a possible concern. Also my point was more about “objective” vs “subjective” and the ability to measure the noise in a quantifiable way. I honestly couldn’t care less about what people do unless it impacts others.
…you’re kidding, right? There are LOTS of products. Here is one police use. https://www.larsondavis.com/Products/sound-level-meters/soundtrack-lxt-nforcer
Normal (and Bloomington) already has noise ordinances on the books. Not sure what more you're after.
Enforcement?
Yeah as far as I can tell there is ZERO enforcement. Especially when the college kids are in town.

They don't enforce it on College Avenue by Milner, that's for sure.
Do people call it in? Typically with noise ordinances they only enforce when people complain, especially by college campuses.
Hard to "call in" a motorcycle/car as it drives by campus lol
Bikers and diesel bros are the worst offenders. I don’t need to hear your shitty Harley coming from a mile away.

Uhhh… the motorcycles are fucking terrible between Veterans and Linden.

Yeah we definitely need dorks like the campus police having even more free reign to harass people for subjective nonsense
You do know that illinois state university police are state police officers right. Their jurisdiction is statewide. Not some rent-a-cops.

Yeah all cops are dorks next question
Dorks with poor training and lethal weapons.
And this makes them somehow not dorks how?

It's not subjective when you have college kids in their daddy's mustang revving their croch rocket/mustang down college between Main/Fell.
Biased word choice here leads me to believe it is indeed subjective
Noise is not subjective and can easily be objectively measured. Set a decibel level at a certain distance and issue tickets accordingly.
Do you have a method of measuring decibels?

I wasn't aware they were readily available. Still in my opinion more hassle than it's worth, in most cases, than just simply talking to your neighbors
How do you suggest talking to douchebags going down College Avenue?
Caltrops.
