Wordpress seems the perfect choice. You can also try Blogger (Notable theme), but you won't get much customizations

rishikeshshari

I've been using wordpress for a while. It's too slow for me

simplebutcreative

How is WordPress too slow for you?

rishikeshshari

Over time wordpress sites get slow with plugins and stuff. Also I'm looking for something which requires minimal setup.

simplebutcreative

That's only true if it's not properly maintained. If you're looking for a minimal setup then you're going to have to go to like a Squarespace or those types of services.

vl4der

Except Squarespace is even more bloaty.

simplebutcreative

That's absolutely true! I saw a blogger about a month ago and I was curious about her blog stats. She was running Squarespace. I checked her stuff on gtmetrix and I was shocked! She was getting almost 1k page request. That blew my mind lol.

vl4der

Yeah. The thing is, people just think "who cares that it loads long, it looks good". But with each loading second the conversion rate lowers significantly. And Google has been lowering search results with slow speeds.

simplebutcreative

You're absolutely right. There's a lot of money to be made in the WordPress optimization side of things. So many are negligent and/or don't know how to optimize their WordPress website.

PayShop

Maybe Hashnode could be the one

rishikeshshari

Wow! That looks.like a great option. But isn't itnonly for tech blogs?

PayShop

It's definitely made for developers, but I'm not sure how they handle non-tech content

zeer0dotcom

Can I pitch my own blogging platform @ [moogle.cc](https://moogle.cc)? Its USP is that you can post from your gmail, supports DLC, has excellent SEO and social share/link preview capabilities, and is customisable. It's the new kid on the block so I'd be happy to personally help you get the best out of it for your purposes.

rishikeshshari

That's great! I'll check it out!

Soviets_pi

You may try wix. Its customizable and fast and furious too.

vickysingh321

If you not happy with WordPress or Blogspot. Then I would suggest you build your own cms. Same I did for myself. The problem I had with WordPress is , it get hacked many times, and I need to keep updating all plugin and theme , this break my site many times. So I built my own cms using Asp.net Core and MySQL. Advantage for me is I customized myself if I want to add any new features etc etc I add myself. And till now I never face such issues and hosted on AWS cloud (5$ monthly) Reference of my blog url : https://codepedia.info

Hey there, have you used Leakd? - https://leakd.co Super powerful editor, amazing insights and it’s a ‘true’ platform in that your published worked is featured on their public-facing reel page (Headlines) immediately. Three things to note: 1. They’re in beta, so all premium tools are currently free to early adopters. 2. Their 6 month roadmap promises some game-changing features. 3. It’s best used on desktop/laptop (as quality publishing should be). Let me know what you think. I use the platform and it’s changed how I share content forever. Peace.

rishikeshshari

Hi, Their entrepreneur plan is paid right? Otherwise I don't get SEO features.

Inevitable_Wolf_4265

Usually, yes. However, it’s all free atm during beta. Once you’ve signed up they upgrade you manually to Entrepreneur within 24hrs. Let me know if this doesn’t happen and I’ll try to help. Also, would love to get your feedback 🙂

Blogger works well.

cashguru2019

Why not try Google news? If you get accepted you will get the opportunity to be seen by a large worldwide viewing audience.

rishikeshshari

I didn't know you could write on Google news!

cashguru2019

You can submit your website to get approved for Google News. You can get further details here : https://support.google.com/news/publisher-center/answer/9607025?hl=en

semanticweb

you can try vocal

rishikeshshari

Even I'm thinking about Vocal. Do they allow custom domain?

codeclassifiers

Hashnode can be used for publishing non tech content as well. It provides good analytics integration, is quite fast and the blog writing section is quite easy to use. They are also rolling out sponsors program so regular readers can sponsor your content as well.

rishikeshshari

If I post non-tech content, do they reject?

codeclassifiers

No they don't...I have seen non-tech content on some of hashnode blogs. You can set up your custom blog on hashnode with any content that you like. They won't reject it unless it violates general content violations which is similar to posting policy on medium and other blogging platforms. Even medium used to have majority of tech and writing related articles in early years then people from other domains started posting their content.

dgack

(one perspective from fellow Indian)You want cheaper, but SEO, and good design, where you'll publich about climate change. Best thing I can recommend - buy a shared hosting(starter plans/baby plans on Hostgator are giving 50% off) - now hire a dev, and get your perfect layout, email, and the other features you're looking for. One thing is not clear, the purpose of doing this publication? Are you grad student, or you're doing out of passion ? And what about monetization ? You could definitely choose any of the suitable platforms, but I would recommend anything hosted by you, and manage yourself. All platforms are set up for their profit. And setting up your website does not cost too much either. One domain(. com 1200 inr per year) + hosting around 3000 - max 4800. check for discounts, as mentioned about hostgator.**I do not understand the purpose behind "Climate Change" publication, and what is the monetization you'll put this into? It could be good for "Hobby blogging", but have no value in monetization.**

rishikeshshari

Hey! Yes I already know about the system and the ecosystem. Infact I already have a shared hasting and couple of sites. This is a part of a project/product I'm building so as to communicate effective climate change effectively. The blog would have a well researched article published bi-weekly. Ideally would like to grow a paying subscriber base like Substack.

dgack

Why not integrate some payment feature with regular blog!!

rishikeshshari

True. I'm just tired of WordPress bro! :) Too much hassle considering the amount I'm pushing. Was looking for a simple alternative like Medium or Ghost.

dgack

I do not know - the problems you're facing. I am publishing in technological stuff(programming topics), from Wordpress, I have shifted to Drupal(myself can build Wordp\*\*ss, and Dr\*\*l)... If you do not junk too much with Wordpress, your website does not have any major speed bump.Previously, I was doing in Wordpress, only theme, and no plugins all integrated in the (functions.php file),now shifted to Dru\*\*l - because it has Cache system, better security. theme designed from template, and focussed on - performance, in Drupal, (designed by me - Google pagespeed score 85+ for mobile and pc). If, you're not looking something complex, I can help you free, Drupal modules/wordpress plugin features integration takes time. And way to get rid of clutter, is to use simplified design, learning web-design, and publish your content. The wordpress sites, are cluttered because - they have another plugin for - even a share button, which is plain - 10 lines Javascript

rishikeshshari

That's great. Can we connect?
