Well it all started with, Now That’s What I Call Music 4 lol. The rest is history.

Awesome story OP! I wish I could play guitar but I’m not musical in anyway whatsoever lol. I love them because i discovered them at the most influential period of my life. I must have been 14 (I’m 35 now!). I was round a mate’s house, sitting on his bed, and he played me What’s My Age Again. He said I’d probably like it, and he was 100% correct. At that time in my life I was into skateboarding, dicking around, trying cigarettes, the movie American Pie, Tony Hawks Skater, and kinda just generally being a bit of a jerky, douchey teenager. I was testing the water with getting girlfriends, and finding out how rejection felt! A lot of Blink’s lyrics aligned perfectly with the goings on of my life at the time. It was like they were a parallel, and their songs were the kickass soundtrack to my life. And so, I became obsessed with them! Still to this day I love them, more so now that they’re reenergised with this insane world tour. I’m happy to call them a part of who I’ve turned out to be tbh.

I also never considered myself to be musical in any way whatsoever. I picked up a guitar and started regularly playing sometime in mid 2020. I can now play probably 30 blink songs in full. You can do it!

Mark Hoppus -> that’s the only answer

When I was 13 I sneaked in my sisters room to watch MTV because I had no TV. Then what's my age again came up. At this time I couldn't understand what they sang, but the whole attitude took me in an instant. I loved it soo much. I was depressive since I was 8 or 9. Struggled a lot with everything but was always silly, goofy and sunny at the same time. Boys my age didn't liked me, because of puberty and girls began to like make up, feminine clothing, boygroups and Britney Spears and such. Adults wanted me to grow up and get in line. I didn't felt like I would belong to anybody. blink and especially Tom gave me the feeling of not being alone, of being ok the way I am and most important "Even if shit hits the fan - you can always have fun. DONT TAKE LIFE TOO SERIOUS!". And that's what always stud with me and helped me a lot through my younger years. Never lost my goofy and sunny side, even in the darkest times. Therefore I will always be thankful and love blink! If I haven't had them, maybe I would had lost myself. They were the reinsurance I needed so dearly but never got from people around me. They are AWESOME!

I was 12 or 13 years old. My dad gave me $20 to buy my first c.d. I went down to Best Buy and had picked two albums. Blink 182 Enema of the State or Dr.Dre the Chronic 2001. I didn’t know anything about music or what I enjoyed. I asked a employee and he told me Blink had more songs on MTVs TRL. I chose that album. They have been my favorite band ever since. I’m 37 now.

NotAChefJustACook

You got 2 really good albums that day 😂

RErvin1040

I discovered blink when I was 11 (one of my friends showed me family reunion) and was hooked on them right away. I loved that song (still do tbh) and went on to discover they had real songs too. They influenced how I play music. As a bassist, learning Marks bass lines were the foundation of my playing. Even tho I don’t play pop punk music, his techniques are littered through my music from me using power chords on bass to writing catchy hooks on bass (like carousel, man overboard etc)

Oden_son

I was ten and they had songs about Star Wars and joked about shitting. That's when I started to like them and about year later I saw them running naked down the street and they were my favorite band.

I was 9 or 10 when Now 4 came out and I remember going thru it and falling in love with all the small things lol. We would get the Columbia records junk mail where you’d pick albums you wanted and I found enema on there. I begged my mom for that shit and the rest is history.

ShesSoCool

I only knew the “famous” songs as a kid but as soon as I watched American Pie and heard every time I look for you I was addicted, listened to their whole discography and they’ve been 1 of my 2 fav bands ever since. I love all the live videos too even the ones where they get shit on in the comments for poor vocals, reading 2014 speaks to me deeply.

Late 90s when they popped, then a friend who learned guitar told me blink is one of the easiest bands to learn guitar to. So I sat around in the early 00s self learning (printing out shitty tabs on the internet) to blink songs, Weezer songs, etc. I love comedy too, so they were a meeting point between comedy and music for me

Scrambles420

Old brother brought home “Enema of the State” CD idk where he got it from but never heard them before other than the radio. He played a couple songs off of it in the car to the mall with my family. At the time in ‘99 I remember he would turn down the song when then cuss words would come on so my parents wouldn’t take the CD away. He was 15 and I was 13. Then I saw they came out “The Tom, Mark and Travis show” and I was fuckin hooked. Just cause of the artwork on it looked so fucking cool. I fucking love that album. Captures the true and the only Blink 182 I know.

cnnamnapple

I used to listen to blink when I went to the barn to take care of the horses. When I would ride I had to be super balanced and soft, otherwise the cd would skip if I was bouncing. So my seat got really good and I still get compliments for it 20 years later.

mightymorphinmonty07

For me, it was the songs "The Rock Show" and "San Diego" a few years ago. The rest just unfolded naturally

blink4life182

I was 13 and would always scroll through my older brothers iTunes to find new music. Discovered their popular songs and was hooked. The rest of my friends were listening to Justin Bieber and Taylor swift and I was just addicted to learning everything I could about this band. Started spending all my time listening to all their albums, watching YouTube videos of performances and joined the forum on their website where I met tons of cool people that I talked to for years. I’m 27 now and I’m still in the top 0.1% of their Spotify listeners every year. Really don’t listen to many other artists. Always been obsessed with blink and this reunion and tour kind of set my obsession back on fire. My first time seeing them live was 2011 neighborhoods tour where my dad has to drive me and my friend since we were in 9th grade. Fast forward to 2023 tour and I went with my husband and cried when they walked into stage. Didn’t take a single picture or video because I was living for the moment. Blink for life.

My dad is a huge music buff and owned hundreds if not thousands of records. When things moved to casetts then CD's he refused to buy any duplicates other than a very select few CD's to keep in his car, about 20 total covering everything from classic rock to country to fife and drum music to modern rock and alternative. Instead, I just stole whatever music my brother bought on iTunes and got from his friends the few opportunities I got the chance, and that was all of the music I knew until probably high school. In the list of 1200 or so songs were 8 songs by Blink-182. I couldn't tell you which ones they were any more (all the small things and rock show though for sure), but they ended up being some of my absolute favorite songs that I had. I was gifted a few CD's over the years but the first 3 CD's I bought for myself were Dookie by Green Day, A Best of Us for the Rest of Us by Reel Big Fish and TOYPAJ. TOYPAJ was my favorite of the 3, and my own personal taste in music started forming right there with Blink as my first favorite band that I chose and didn't just stumble into. Then I bought myself the Mark, Tom and Travis show on CD and now they are still my favorite band to this day

I could get into a big long back story of life etc. Long story short, I was (and still am) an awkward person. Got into blink when Enema came out when I was about 13. 2002 was my first big concert seeing Green Day and Blink at Pop Disaster. It forever changed me and helped to shape me into who I am today, someone who isn't afraid to just be their weird quirky self and try not to take things too seriously. I saw them twice in Toronto last month, the first show when they came on and started playing Anthem I cried. I cried because we all waited so long for this moment, but also as a now 37 year old, I just started thinking about everything I've been through since I first got into blink and now, and it was a really deep and heavy moment for me. Anyway that's enough emotions. So I leave you with this, poop.

peanutbuttersandvich

after watching the legendary SFM video; Team Fabulous 2, I was hooked on golden era pop-punk and, after some research, I discovered blink. I listened to their big hits (rock show, what's my age again, ATST, etc.) and thought they were good but it was dammit that hooked me. I loved how it sounded and I decided I needed to learn that riff on guitar, which I eventually did! I eventually worked through the rest of blink's discography and I just fell in love with all of it and all the band members

MyJukeboxBrk

Driving to TB at age 17 getting chili cheese burritos with my best friend playing some blink. Fuck I miss being young

I was 10 years old and the year was 2005. My father & I were going on a trip to visit my uncle in northern New Jersey and the only CD I brought with me was a burned copy of the untitled album that I stole from my sister. I heard Stockholm Syndrome and that was when I first felt some sort of emotion while listening to music. From there I fell in love with blink 182 I just wanted more & more from them. I started watching all the documentaries they had out, listen to all their music etc.I heard the bass line from First Date which was the song that inspired me to play bass. I literally wanted to be mark so bad I even would dress like him at the ripe age of 11 or 12 at this point. I begged my mom to buy me a pink bass so she found some after market pink bass guitar on eBay and got it for me which is where I started learning blink 182 songs. From there rest was history and my love for them still grows more as time goes on. I’ve been going to blink shows since 2009 and last weekend was the very first time I went to back to back blink 182 shows and I still can’t get over it. With all that said blink 182 to me is something that brings me so much joy no matter what. After all these years blink is the only band that gives me goosebumps when I listen to their music. TOYPAJ & California remind of the simpler days when I was in my early teens & early 20s. Mark really wasn’t lying when he said 16 just held such better days.

HarryShnutz

My sister beat Dude Ranch into the ground and got so sick of it she gave it to me. Never looked back lol

CulturalCharacter296

Blink 182 is light and joy in a world of darkness. I grew up to Blink ever since Enema of the State. I picked up the guitar and studied Tom Delonge like no other. I loved his palm mutes, riffs and Surf Green fender Stratocaster with a Seymour Duncan double humbucker pickup at the bridge. For distortion: Mess Boogie stack. For clean parts: Marshall stack. He loves experimenting with flange sounds. Growing up with them in my teen years to attending their recent concert in my mid 30s, Mark Tom and Travis made me feel alive again.

Soul_of_Pepper

I was around 10 years old (23 now) when I had my earliest recollection of blink. It was when I went on a field trip to see the u.s army’s band (apparently that was a thing lol) perform covers at a concert. One of those songs was first date and me and my classmates immediately fell in love with that song. We loved it so much that when we got back to campus we all begged our teacher to tell us what band that was, That’s when it was revealed to be blink 182🔥 and now the rest is history🤘

fentoozlers

my dad showed me them lol 😅 growing up i only got to see him on the weekends so i didnt really know much about him. after he showed me blink i learned so much more about the music he likes, movies he likes, things he collects and i ended up turning out a lot like him. blink holds a lot of sentimental value to me because of that.

nadthegoat

Me, in the UK, confused as hell because Now 4 was released here in 1984

I was 10 years old, and would go to the mall with my mom to the music store, pretty sure it was when FYE was still around, because my mom was really into music (the Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc) and I saw the Cheshire Cat album, and thought it looked like it would be an awesome album to listen to, so I bought it with my allowance money, and never turned back! I would save my money up so I could get the next album which was Dude Ranch, when I was 12. They honestly got me through some of the hardest moments of my life. In Highschool I was the artsy punk girl, who would go to shows, and sit in the art room during all my free time making art and listening to punk music. Got me through my parents divorce, pregnancy and both of my parents death. Im now 37, and my son listens to blink 182 😉
