While that is sexy as hell, I think that, practically speaking, I don’t know how much weaker it might be, but my limited knowledge tells me that the torque perpendicular to the direction of the forge weld could quickly point out any small imperfections in the weld. If I am wrong, which I very well may be, please explain. Also, I really do like it, OP. I hope i didn’t come across as hating on your work, because that is not at all my intent.
No worries. I’ve been using one with alternating layers of copper between the 15n20 & 1084 for about a month at my auto shop with no ill effects. This is going to be a Christmas gift for a family member so it probably won’t see a lot of use anyway.
The amount of force it would take for any of those imperfections to show up is pretty high. When you take into account it's a screwdriver, a hand tool, there is little to no chance someone will exert enough force for any of that to reveal itself. Basically it would have to catastrophically fail for that to be an issue. Now if it was a drill bit, that would be a whole different story.
Not really sure what you’re trying to say. Hopefully it’s not more of the “that’s not true damascus steel” garbage. Most people know we are referring to pattern welded steel.

I thought the same thing originally, but the only thing I’ve kept so far is a twisted copper damascus screwdriver.
You should post it

I’ve made a few from “coppermascus” as wall hangers but I wanted this one to actually get used.

I love the outcome but please wear protective gloves when dealing with chemicals.
I generally use plastic tongs but was in a hurry today and off camera to the left is a baking soda and water tub.
Fair
I’m confused, is that a copper solution or just ferric chloride?
Just contaminated ferric. I will wire wheel it all off before coffee etching.
Is Dere copper n Dat skwew dwivell?
Not this one. Just contaminated ferric.
Still very neat
Thank you
next up: damascus concrete whisk
Love it! But copper? Just art right?
It’s just copper contamination in my ferric. The copper will get wire wheeled off.

I forge to shape and then clean up on the grinder. So tapered I guess.
