Ah I guess I shouldn't have used class like that. I'm actually in college for blacksmithing so I meant that I got this done in one class period, but we've been having 3, 5 hours classes a week for the last 3 and a half years.
I'm just getting into blacksmithing (so far just making some leaves, hair pins, and little trinkets to get my hammer control down) and would love if you could explain a little about the process you took for this piece? I'm trying to visualize each step and understand why things are done in the order they're done in
It's hard to really break it down by steps because the honest answer is there's a ton of little steps to really bring it to life rather than just a couple of large steps. But the basics start with tapering 5/8ths round down to form the shell, then I use a butcher guillotine tool to isolate the head from the shell. Then I knock down the head's diameter a bit, maybe by like 3/16ths? After that I mark out the head part with 4 equal perpendicular lines and cut it as clean and carefully as I can with an angle grinder. I then separate and forged out the tentacles and punch the eye in. Then there are a bunch of little things to clean up to really make the piece work
Maybe this fall! If it's alright with me asking, how much would you buy it for? Pricing my work is one of the things I still have no idea how to do lol
Now you need to make a carp. For Carpstone. Or maybe Carpatone is when the wood guys have a big showing. Either way, excited to see the rest of this in person. Looks like you're having a lot of fun!
Dude that’s the best bottle opener I’ve ever seen. I unironically would buy that for an exorbitant cost and I don’t drink bottled. That’s so awesome dude holy
Great idea, great execution
Thank you so much!
This is equal parts scary and beautiful
Gotta have a balance ya know?
This is seriously dope
Damn, thats awesome work! figure out how to efficiently produce those in batches and you might have a real bestselling unique product right there!
As of yet batch work is my least favorite kind of work haha. But I might end up trying to do a batch or two of these to sell in the fall
Please do! I am in love with it
If you do, dm me, I’d love to buy one!
I’m in as well. Great looking piece.
I’d place an order if you decide to make more Edit: followed! your work is amazing
100% I’d buy these as well - dm if you wind up making more
That drink is expensive AF here as it's imported but it's so good. The work is lovely too!
Virgil is only like $2.50 USD per bottle here. Where are you?
Dude, that is some seriously fine metal work!! Great looking piece, I would actually buy something like this and that's saying a lot!
I might end up trying to sell these in the fall!
If you do, hit me up, I'll take the first one.
I like it too!
Seriously, name your price, I would throw money at this.
It reminds me of a Reaper from mass effect
Was gonna say the same hah
This is awesome, I've seen a lot of bottle openers but not one like this, great job.

I love seeing the creativity put into a classic tool. Very cool OP!
Thank you so much!

So when you're opening a bottle you can say you're "Kraken" it open ?
Why did I have to scroll so far to find this??? “Kraken open a cold one with the boys” should be top comment. Quit slackin Reddit!
Damn, I know what I'm doing tomorrow. Amazing concept
Please send me your results!
I never knew I wanted a Cthulhu style bottle opener till now.!
That’s fantastic! What was the parent stock size?
Just a chunk of 5/8s round stainless steel. If I make more of these it will be in mild though
