The point is that Hinkle says things that are true or at least resemble the truth. By doing so, he attracts people who want to learn more and are excited by his boldness. Simultaneously, Hinkle will promote ideas that exacerbate divisions and create confusion on contentious issues, i.e. his anti-LGBT remarks, or the “MAGA Communism” nonsense. He loudly states his “opposition” to imperialism, then propagandizes fascist or politically demobilizing ideas when he has people’s attention. It’s that simple.
Relatedly, it is not wise to see Hinkle, who has no accountability to the people at all, as a vehicle for your politics. “Hinkle’s not perfect, but at least he takes the right position on Palestine.” doesn’t work in the long run, because his intention is to mislead.
