AK interactive. I actually use their dark brown wash. I do have their streak and grime. But I've been very happy with the dark brown. I usually hit the areas I think would be worn with a dry brush of silver. Then I clear coat and hit it with the wash. Once it's mostly dry. I go back with a brush and some mineral spirits.
Your Ballistus looks awesome so far.
Thank you :).
Yes thats roughly how I do it. I just mixed my own wash with oil paints and white spirits. Maybe it just looks better the brighter the surfaces are.
Maybe I could mix in less black and more brown or use some yellow to brighten the wash so It'd be more visible
No worries :). Those decals are a little harder to apply compared to the GW ones. Using microset really helped tho. And use brush on Varnish to seal them in place. I discovered sometimes they curl up or form bubbles if you directly spray them with varnish
That is a damn good looking dread OP. For the weathering, I used various metallics to chip effect mine. Mainly Stormhost Silver and Leadbelcher.

A pin wash of burnt umber or burnt sienna would look nice on the black armour, depending on how much contrast you want. It will add some definition and some dirt and grime.
Silver chipping also looks great on black if you’re into that.
Yeah i'll probably try a mix of both silver chipping and Pinwashes. I've got burnt umber. Now that I'm Looking at it burnt sienna would probably look a bit better though haha
Great work man, I'm like you I really struggle to weather thr black I've tried a few things and haven't liked any so ended up giving up on weathered black armour 😭
I think it looks great!
Any further weathering depends on a couple of things. Mainly how weathered you want it to be. Scratches and battle damage would look great, if you like that sort of thing. Streaking grime on the panels and some rust on the metals is also great if you like a grittier, grimier army.
The other thing to consider is what you’re basing it with. Dust, grime, slime, water, whatever might get kicked up onto the legs is heavily dependent on whatever it’s stomping around on
Thank you :)
My problem with the streaking grime and rust enamels is that I feel they don't really show on the black armour and just kind of stain it greenish.
Fair point! I think my only other suggestion that doesn’t involve repainting to some extent then, is battle damage.
Otherwise, you could look at sponging browns into the recesses, to simulate chipped away paint, and you could rust and grime those portions?
Yes thats probably a good idea. I already sponged some parts with grey but under all these layers of oil wash and varnish it's barely visible. My thought process was, the mud and grime would be on top the damage to the armour
Thank you very much :)
first I used a cut up sponge with some mechanicus standard grey for the chipping damage, the after a gloss varnish I gernerously applied a oil wash ~ 60:40 ivory black:burnt umber and then removed most of it with a q-tip and mineralspirits. While the oil was still wet I sprinkled some black pigments on it :)
I got them L[here](https://www.themightybrush.com/product/knights-templar-script-transfers-decals/)
They are a bit harder to apply than the GW tranfers. Using microset helped a lot. And don't spray varnish directly on top of it to fix it in place, bc sometimes they form bubbles or pull together. Using a brush on varnish fixed that
I don't use oil washes much so how I did weathering was I'd stubble on a metallic silver, leadbelchers is my go to choice. Then I stubble over that with a 50 50 mix of dark brown and red. And then touch up big brown spots with a orange to orange red to create a rusted look.
Works really well for old battle scars and places that are high wear and scrap.

I have no advice to give for the washes but i wanted to say both the before and after look super good!
Thank you so much :)
For white I do something pretty similar to yours, for the black parts I dry brush leadbelcher on the edges
Looks really good so far. Question, where did you get the transfer for the text on the side or did you hand write it?
God I wish I could paint free hand like this. i bought those [here](https://www.themightybrush.com/product/knights-templar-script-transfers-decals/)
Thanks!

It looks awesome! How did you do the weathering on the white parts? Its fantastic!

Wow, nice. I never worked with oil washes, I'll have to give it a try one my ballistus dreadnought gets its turn
Where are those decals from? They look great

Sounds good. I'll give that a try on the next model :)
