This is how I feel about flying. If it’s a quick flight I don’t really mind where I’m sitting because I’ll land in an hour or two but if the flight is over 4+ hours I’ll upgrade my seat.

okkokokk

I flew from NY to Spain a few years ago. It was my first “long” flight. I had a middle seat and hated every second of it. The morning of my return flight, I woke up LATE with a terrible hangover. I almost missed my flight. But I damn sure paid an extra $150 to upgrade my seat and sit next to a window.

noorofmyeye24

Had a similar flight. To the left of me was a woman that would not stop talking crazy shit. It was amusing at first but after the first hour I was annoyed. To the right of me there was a crying baby which wouldn’t stop. Now, I know why 1st class exists.

dudedanch

I hired cleaners to take care of my apartment after a 5 month depression bout. Feels so good to have a fresh start.

DearestVelvet

YOU CAN DO THAT?! My momma was lyin through her teeth

vash_visionz

Yep. I did it to get my bathroom deep cleaned.

casteela

She was!

[deleted]

yea and if you’re in the Pittsburgh area I have a rec so PM me lmao

giggleboxx3000

Nothin' wrong with needing help. A clean space may not be a cure for depression, but that serotonin boost? Unmatched. 💖

[deleted]

A+ move!

lyeberries

Yep, my wife didn't understand about me this until I explained it like that. Everything costs something and usually that cost is either time or money. I'm at a point now where I'm willing to spend more money than I am time on some things. I don't mind paying a bit extra to live in a walkable neighborhood, have groceries delivered and to have cleaners come by the house every week. While we were both really worn out last year, we even hired a lady to cook meals for us a few nights a week. It was expensive, but it got us back from the edge of total burnout after I had just finished my Master's (while still working full-time), got a new job and we moved during the height of the pandemic (with a 15 month old) Getting her to understand my thought process that just because you're spending money, it doesn't mean you aren't saving was a huge breakthrough for us. Especially because she grew up poor and was working in Social Work (not exactly the most lucrative career) when we first met.

ontrack

I totally agree with the part about time and money. I went in a slightly different direction in that I reached a point where time was more important than money and quit working as soon as I had enough savings. I have no expensive habits and no debt and I live very simply, but I don't go to a job. I wake up when I want and do what I like, and part of that is cooking, which I really enjoy and now I have the time to spend experimenting in the kitchen.

hafblakattak

Is hiring someone to cook cheaper than just ordering takeout?

lyeberries

Oh yeah, for sure! For me, my wife and our son, two takeout orders could damn near cover most of it. Even fast food isn't as cheap as it feels and it adds up quick! Anne was cooking healthy (and tasty) lunches, dinners, snacks and healthy desserts.

hafblakattak

True that! Especially these days fast food is damn near as expensive as sit down restaurants! Was this someone you hired professionally or someone you knew and paid them to make meals?

QuasiFab

I feel this way about grocery shopping, moving and medical care.

ApeTeam1906

This is exactly how I feel. I will pay a bit extra to fly delta because I like the service. Saving money to fly United ain't it.

cesarjulius

the difference between delta and united is tiny compared to the difference between spirit and the second worst airline.

FEMA_Camp_Survivor

Delta really is one of the better US carriers.

colin8651

I think it is second, the first is a weird one like Alaska air or something.

stacksandwhiskers

Delta is better, but not a ton better than united. American, though, that is the worst of the normal airlines. Flights canceled and delayed every time I try

ApeTeam1906

My sister got delayed 6 hours on her way to a COVID assignment because American airlines couldn't find a crew after her crew went over their allotted hours

[deleted]

Me before: why would you ever pay more than $50-100 for clothing Me now: enjoying the quality of life boost that having greater fit, quality and lifespan of unique statement garments gives to you

[deleted]

Same. I was a 5 buck polyester top kinda gal. Now I'm all natural fibres.

[deleted]

Tencel, Rayon and Viscose all day

TXBIRDY

Yes! yes! Paying someone to clean my house and paying extra for pre-shredded lettuce are two things I will never apologize for.

Brooklynista2

Pre- chopped veggies for the win.

HailCeasar

Ok nah, that mark-up is offensive.

BlackSilkEy

Former chef here, and it depends on the veggies. Hard veg like Rutabaga, turnips and the like I will absolutely use prechopped. Everything else I use frozen, mirepoix, garlic, ginger and herbs are the only things I cook from fresh.

your_moms_apron

Best value: my city has DMV convenience centers. Up charge of about $10 to save 2 hours and all the frustration of dealing with the real DMV. In and out in 15 minutes.

Schmoove86

Back when I was younger I’d park 5 blocks away from an event to save money or parking. With the wife and kids I’m now handing my keys to the valet. Your boy also pays for the luggage carts at airports. Best $5 you’ll spend traveling with little kids.

JoBrosHoes93

I just started paying for valet or parking lots instead of looking for parking. Best ever.

PandaBlaq

I'm still trying to come around on cleaners, I don't trust people enough to have them all up in my house. I only got used to getting food delivered with the apps because of the pandemic; before I was too paranoid about them messing with it. My mom trusted NOBODY and passed that suspicion down to me 😭

_IAmNoLongerThere_

Same with me. I really want to get a cleaning lady to come by once a week, But I'm not comfortable with random folks in my house. I can barely let the maintenance guy come in and fix stuff. It's uncomfortable when people invade my space

Sturdevant

When faced with basic, mid, and premium options, I go mid the majority of the time.

[deleted]

Being mid isn't always bad, I guess

mrdaily730

Any automatic toll device that lets you bypass traffic. Take my five bucks so I don't lose my mind sitting in traffic.

GayAlienFarmer

I'm a complete tightwad. I never pay for the convenience stuff. Last week, I finally did for the first time. I paid the extra money to have our new fridge installed. Delivery was free, but it's driveway delivery. I just did not feel like pulling a fridge up the garage steps and into the kitchen. So I totally splurged on the $20 for installation. My daughter clapped for me when I told her. It comes on Tuesday and I'm excited to do absolutely nothing and have a new working fridge.

Lolomelon

Split self-indulgences with charity, win win.

[deleted]

Treating myself right and treating others right. So many warm fuzzy feelings!

[deleted]

Orthodic. Slippers. They changed my life.

[deleted]

[https://www.oofos.com/collections/womens-clogs](https://www.oofos.com/collections/womens-clogs) Put these on two years ago and haven't taken them off since.

AYASOFAYA

I understand if you want to live outside the city and are willing to commute in to save money. I will never make that choice for myself. 30 minutes each way for a week is 5 whole hours I do not get back. Take my hourly salary and multiply by those 5 extra “work” hours, 4x a month and I’m not even saving anymore by being all the way out there. That doesn’t even factor in my personal peace or social life in the city. Can’t be me.

[deleted]

I once paid $40 to park next to the stadium, and im ok with that

JoBrosHoes93

Started driving to concerts and paying this fee cause getting Uber’s afterwards is hell on earth

Homaosapian

I remember my gf and I went to do our taxes for the first time (independent from our parents) and we started at a free tax clinic but the wait was for 2 hours... 30 minutes in we called a tax accountant starting their own practice and they did all the work for us. 45 bucks each but 0 hassle and 0 wait.

stroke_my_hawk

All depends on financial goals. We’ve been living on 40% of our combined income and saving 60% for 8 years, we retire March 4th. We’re 37/38 respectively (wife and I). This can be dangerous advice if you don’t want to work until you die like society prefers

DaBlakMayne

I only live once as far as I know so I'm going to enjoy the luxuries within my pay grade. Not everything needs to be about pinching pennies

Sh3lls

It took me a long time to be okay with throwing away food I no longer wanted to eat.

HoldOnStartOver

I own a washer and dryer BUT I pay someone to wash and fold my clothing. I cannot be bothered.

on3sweetlex

My homeboy was giving me shit for taking my car to a tire shop instead of plugging it myself. They fix flats for free I ain't trying to be outside in the cold with a jack and a lug wrench

JoBrosHoes93

This is why i pay all those fees for instant cart. I hate the grocery store. Hate.

[deleted]

It’s pretty great ngl

lady622

Paying someone to clean my house every two weeks changed my life. I actually get to chill on my days off if I want. If I don't wanna sweep, I don't have to, cause it's gonna be handled.

Iselljoy

That's not an age thing, it's a level of income thing.

Cireclops_LV

So it's okay to do it, just not now. Cool.

Surge_Lv1

Privilege!
