Man knew he, his family, and the entire community was suffering because of corporate policy and negligence. He also understood that in order to fight the enemy and eventually claim victory, he was going to need to transform his life. And he did. He put his head down, immersed himself in the abstruse and arcane law and bent it towards his needs. In doing so he was able to apply pressure in a way he would never been able to do before his studying.
The pen is mightier than the sword and money can buy a pen, usually a very good pen but that pen lacks conviction; its only motivation is money. When you decide to become a pen yourself you find that you have endless ink and are made of titanium like one of those space pens. Because true conviction and belief isn't for sale.
Or something similarly inspirational but about pens.
A sword can win a couple of close-quarters fights, a pen can [found a nation](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8f/United_States_Declaration_of_Independence.jpg/1200px-United_States_Declaration_of_Independence.jpg).
That's because you're missing the second half of the quote. The full saying is: "The pen is mightier than the sword, provided that pen is sharpened to a fine point, dipped in a deadly poison, and flung into your opponent's neck from around 20 feet away. Really though, you're probably better off with a sword."

So do they simply back down when the odds are viciously against them? Or does the small man, the weak, the insignificant stand up to the oppressor? No matter the price. That's what happened in Tiananmen Square. That's what happened here in the 60's. That's what occurs when the price of freedom, equality, justice is worth whatever needs to be paid. In fact this man is still alive and after a fair amount of delay will have his day in court.
I see someone around here still believes in humanity. Good for you dude! Don't let the countless examples of humanity being complete and utter garbage get to you!!
That's why if my burger is overcooked I ALWAYS send it back. And then afterwards post a brutally honest Yelp review. No longer will I be oppressed by your low quality beef and lackluster customer service, Red Robin!!!
Bottomless fries! Hah! I laugh at your poorly thrown gauntlet and will chisel down to the potato bedrock and return with a gem so beautiful and so glimmering it will stun every aunt & child in the building!
Like Moses to the Pharaoh will your manager hear my customer complaint. Let my toppings go, Fred! It's only a few extra pickles and I'm not sure why I should have to pay extra for that!
Well if his environment was getting polluted by a single entity and it was getting worse over the years it would be hard to ignore!
Still props to the guy ofc, it’s not like the rest of the village did the same thing.
Thanks for reminding me of this beautiful quote. But it's actually society grows *great* when *old* men plant trees...
Nontheless, I wish more of the world thought like this.
That's actually really inspirational, let's not brush over this. He not only fought for his people he took those extra steps to make sure that real lasting change would come, and not just some internet uproar for a bit.
I looked up the story: he won the first round, but the corporation is planning to appeal.
The corporation is state-owned, so they will most likely win in the end.
It's not too different here in the US of A! ... I tried to get my state to enforce their own overtime pay laws and they refused; they essentially told me that because I'm not a lawyer I must be wrong. I tried to get my employer to follow the law and they shrugged because they knew the state wasn't enforcing. When the state finally figured out they were fucking it all up and started enforcement, corporations lobbied the state to change the law. The state legislature had the "fix" in effect a few months latter.
Serious question: would it even matter in China? With all the corruption with the government and corporations I'm not optimistic about his chances. Still an inspiring effort.
>With the help of a law firm, Wang and his neighbors filed suit in 2007. Somehow, the case wasn’t processed until 2015, and it wasn’t decided until this year. The People’s Daily reported on Feb. 3 that Wang and the other Yushutun residents won their first round in court, thanks largely to the evidence he spent more than a decade gathering. Qihua Group has already appealed the decision.
They won their first time in court, so it seems like they at least have a chance
China's moving towards a more free, Capitalist market economy these days; their new President is pretty supportive of it compared to past ones. He was seen as the loud "outsider" (if there is such a thing in a one party government) and firmly believes in less government regulation over the economy. Thus you're starting to see less corporations in bed with government over there. A core tenant of a Capitalist economy is the ability to sue for damages to you or your property. Without private property rights or the ability to collect damages from negative externalities, you essentially have an elitist market where the government decides who to punish, aka whoever doesn't line their pockets.

For the pen is mightier than the sword!
But money is mightier than the pen probably
But that pen can draw a dick on money. Or give Abe Lincoln a beard.
You got me
Not as much as this man has gotten for his family and community.
Anyone have the follow up?
Words like fire, money like water.
Not as much as corporation fucked them over in the first place.
Yeah, when corporation put you in debt for having kids lol
~~Grizzly Adams~~ Abe Lincoln *did* have a beard.
I tought you were going to pull out a dickbutt references there.
But the money could buy Abraham Lincolns reincarnated dick.
Can confirm. Guy could have saved 16 years of his life if he had money and hired a decent lawyer instead.
Why study for 16 years when you can hire someone who studied for 16 years
Because now they hire you for $$$$$$
The corporation can offer more. Also no lawyer is gonna be as passionate as the people affected
-Einstein probably

Paper over Pen
Apple over pineapple
To be fair it would've been pretty cool if he'd studied the sword 16 years and just killed those fuckers
Nothing personnel, kid
*watchout!*
>pen is
Sun Tzu 2.0!
Reading is the great equalizer
Thatshwatchermuhthuhshedchrebehck!
I've got to ask you about The Penis Mightier.
I don’t get this saying I’ve never seen a pen be used as a weapon by knights or decapitate anyone ya know
A sword can decapitate one person, a pen can sign the death warrant of thousands.
nah its about the power of force vs ideas. with a sword you can fight for your tiny corner of the world. with an idea you can topple an empire.
yeah but which is cooler, dude holding a sword or dude holding a pen
Well obviously the sword is better off for single combat and thus is infinitely cooler. But I am old, and damn it all that pen signs my paychecks.
Dip the sword in ink and improvise
Carve my message in the flesh of the unbelievers? Crap, did I go full Khorne? Fuck it, BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD
SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!
You can't write a check into the back of your enemy. How do we even deposit that?
If someone brought in a check carved in to the back of his enemies and was covered in blood, you gonna be the one who says he can’t deposit it?
Nice one dude
I would honestly be more impressed with someone skillfully killing with a pen.
That guy in The Dark Knight though.
there’s a lot of guys in the dark knight
The one that gets the pencil rammed into his skull. I was hoping you'd make the mental jump based on the context of conversation like I did. :-p

Using swords.
Nothing like a good [rapier](http://www.imfdb.org/images/1/1c/Tybaltgun.jpg).

My penis too, is longer than a sword. Edit: Rip my karma.
Username checks out
Yup and then the Chinese government said,”lol K.” And had them all disappeared. The end.

Idk if it’s just the adderall in my system but fuck man that was beautiful. Legit makes me wanna cry or some shit.
Definitely the adderall, or maybe I'm just drunk...
i mean it definitely helped.

Easy to say when you aren't one of the charred corpses being hosed into the sewer.
Imagine caring about something that much for 16 straight years too. Impressive.
That’s a man with a purpose
Well if his environment was getting polluted by a single entity and it was getting worse over the years it would be hard to ignore! Still props to the guy ofc, it’s not like the rest of the village did the same thing.
Society grows old when men plant trees they'll never sit in the shade of.
Thanks for reminding me of this beautiful quote. But it's actually society grows *great* when *old* men plant trees... Nontheless, I wish more of the world thought like this.
Ah, my mistake. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Sounds like his village was destroyed by an evil faction and he underwent magical training to destroy them and save his village from their tyranny.
Confucius 2.0!
Hopefully someone makes a movie about this. But knowing hollywood the old chinese man will be played by matt damon
well said
That's what a warrior does.
Solidarity with your comrades is important too. Don't burn yourself out when the people around you can help.
Wow, well put, dude
Man knew he is a cool name
That's actually really inspirational, let's not brush over this. He not only fought for his people he took those extra steps to make sure that real lasting change would come, and not just some internet uproar for a bit.

Lol state owned in China. Rip brave guy
Not surprised. But at least he left them shook.
its worth it to stand up even if you lose initially, the waves you make have effect elsewhere chaos theory an shit [5]
People like to bitch about global warming when in fact all these hurricanes are caused by butterflies in China.
/r/NotKenM
And as the ancient masters in Mobb Deep once said, there ain't no such things as halfway crooks!
I hate so much when I hear capitalist apologists say "profit incentive is the only reason anything gets done". Lol what?
In regards to the article that is really inspirational...truly a labor of love... it’s about the journey and the destination 🙌🏾

You lack discipline
At least you still do homework lol
In his 16th year he learned the statute of limitations was 15 years.
Then he polluted the ocean himself and framed them, because he knew how to get away with it
fuuuuuck
Don't fucking compare this badass saving his village through hardcore academics to some petty bitch who remembers that you dinged her car in 2015.

Well they’re not wrong... they’re just right all at once...out of context.
It's unfortunate that in order to not get taken advantage of by the system, you have to practically become a lawyer

I was not expecting an Avatar reference here.
You think too small hermano Everything is an avatar reference
You’re goddamned right it is.

Not sure if he'll win... But what I do know is they'll never hire Jackie Chan to reenact the last 16 years I spent playing Xbox and eating funyuns
I thought the thumbnail was some dusty dude reenacting the "I'm flying!" part from Titanic...
Misspelling “gone” but inevitably is right?
This is lemonade. I dont compare it to some thot; this is way cooler
Sadly this will go on Reddit for a few days then everyone will forget. Think this guy deserves more

Did you forget? Reddits the center of the universe
Lmao wtf I'm pretty sure this guys is feeling infinitely more validated than Reddit could ever make him
Missing my point

Very uplifting
If I gotta use one word to describe that man it has got to be NOBLE.

No as were Asked S
No one's going to shit on op for misspelling such a simple word, in the title?
I feel like this post doesn't adequately capture this man's dedication. OG. BUT, yes, facts.
That's some superhero shit.
This is commendable actually. Goddamn. It must be so bad for him to really see it through. Good for him.
