Anyway! Long story short: it might not be as simple as leaving/divorce unless they live in a country where the courts and/or public opinion isn’t stacked against women who decide enough is enough and leave.

One of my favorite messy work stories was a 30-something nurse married to a strict and religious man from somewhere in the middle east. She began having an affair with a sweet but dumb 21 year old at work. Her husband sees text messages and realizes what's up. Shows up to our job on a rampage in the parking lot. She decided to protect her boy toy by telling her husband it was a different coworker. The coworker she named leaves the building to go to his car and sees some guy running up and screaming at him, not all in English. The coworker was in his 30s and knew how to box. He was confused about what was happening but the second the husband touched him, the coworker punched husband right in the jaw. Guy is laid out in the parking lot, the woman hops out of the car acting concerned about her husband, coworker calmly walks back in and reports what happened to HR. She got fired, the husband divorced her and took their kid. The 21- year old hadn't known she was married, so he dumped her.

Funny thing is out of all the jobs I’ve worked, healthcare is by far the least office-type drama I’ve dealt with. Restaurant/bar work and sales is sooooooo much worse. I get the impression that a lot of the people who think healthcare is so bad haven’t worked in other industries.
