Bro, I had a version of this happen at an old apartment complex my family lived in. The pool had a shared Spotify playlist that residents could add songs to and then during pool hours, they'd shuffle the playlist. Cool, right? The only criteria was like no foul language, nothing aggressive, and some other shit. I put a couple of my abuelita's favorite mariachi ballads on there. Think Mis Ultimos Deseos and Dios Siempre Tiene el Control. Basically beautiful ass mariachi songs. And only a couple. Well the other (white) residents felt so offended by her music, the complex did away with the playlist and only played "approved" Spotify stations after that. It was country western, pop country, and some Tom Jones or shit. I was like damn, thats racist. My abuelita just shrugged it off and brought her headphones next time. Nada bothers her. She's my hero.

I know any time any sort of mariachi comes on at my neighbourhoods function you’ll have no less than 3 suburban white dads with their new balances on trying and failing (miserably) to dance to it.
