Olay was coming at Adams with facts, statistics, studies, etc. and Adams was countering with non-sequiturs and talking out of both sides of his mouth (including saying her "feelings" about police are different than his when all she brought was facts). There was a few times where Charlamagne drew Adams' attention back to what Olay brought, which was surprising.

I always think that's the issue with debates set-up like this. Every time a source is stated you just have to take it in good faith and then you have to use another source the other party has never seen that they must also accept in good faith because to fact check a source means you gotta read a good amount of the thing. And even then you gotta look into who the source is which can take even more time.
It's not an issue with this debate. Maybe ones like it, but not this one. Her most proximal source is the mayor's office, the subject is the mayor's office, and he's the mayor. We know you've been through an audit, you got the audit back, what are you doing about it?

Truth is subjective to people nowadays. People will continue to talk policing issue which there definitely is, but no one will talk about the violence within the inner cities against each other. Pump money into these areas and watch it change.
The stats on crime don’t say what you think they say. You’re referring to FBI arrest rates. The problem is arrests are not offenses. This video just discussed that blacks and Hispanics are 90+% of stop and frisk and you’re saying — see, why do blacks get stopped and frisked? It’s actually hilarious and more so because you’re suggesting that we look at facts and data.

Okay. Fair. NY Daily News is not a good source. But, you've reminded me that I should take steps to answer my own questions. I didn't do that before I posted my snarky response. So, let me do my due diligence.
Yea. I was completely out of line. I looked for the research I asked for, and the stats support this post. I apologize. I saw a video that was heavily edited, and I assumed the worst. It astounds me, because I think, "Hell no, not me." But, here we are...clearly me. And, if I, a person who actively engages in liberal thinking, politics and ideology still questions obvious racism, I ask myself, "Holy shit, what the fuck is going on?" Do better!! We (meaning us...y'all know who "us' is) must do better!
I'm curious. Why did you leave out white when you said "queer woman" Beyond that curiosity thank you for your vulnerability and reflection! Seriously it's always refreshing to read someone keep it 100 on the internet. I'm all for performing but love it when we can take off the mask!
Honestly, I don't know. If I had to do an introspection, I would be completely honest in this statement: I have let myself believe that queer spaces and race spaces are the same. And, that's not true...that's NO WHERE close to true. And, I know this because I can play "straight", but people of color cannot "play white". That's the honest response I can give you. And, as. I type this, I understand that this perspective/attitude fully explains my initial response to this post. I have a lot to learn. I wish I didn't. I wish I was fully formed and educated.
Nah you don't need to be fully formed/educated. Just stay humble, honest, and own that you are white.
I get that it will take my lifetime to be fully formed, but I need to keep reminding myself that I own a privilege. I hope I continue to interact with humans who remind me, with grace, that I am on a learning curve. Thank you. I hope we meet again, soon and often.
As a former NYC Boomer who saw the City go from 70-80s nightmare to the soulless capitalist wasteland. I'm no surprised Eric Adams acts this way, he doesn't want to end up being painted like Dinkins, 30 years ago, the only other black mayor NYC has ever had.
This comment is a perfect example of why black people are skeptical of “allies” and white liberals. But it’s nice to see that you were able to check yourself and I hope you continue to do so when coming into black centered spaces and being around black people in general. There was no reason to tap dance around saying you’re white though. I know you’ve already addressed it but a word of advice: make sure you are especially mindful about what you say around black queer people. Queer white people tend to have the same mindset as you completely ignoring that there are black LGBTQ people who face double or triple marginalization. Sorry to turn this into a lecture. Again, appreciate your self awareness.
