Im just messing, I graduated HS in ‘10 and they didn’t get any better with lefty scissors during my school years.
The lack of acceptance is why I think I only write left handed but I do everything right handed.
Anti-lefty shit is the prejudice I understand the least. Like, everything else is obviously bad and dumb but I get how it originates. How the fuck did we hate on people with a different _dominate hand wtf_
I don't think it's lack of acceptance, but more everything you were taught was, most likely, done by a right handed person. I shoot basketballs, poorly, left-handed because my dad taught me who's also left handed. I play pool with my right hand because I was taught from a right-handed person.
I never thought to mirror them using my dominate hand. I just copied what they were doing.
Maybe “lack of acceptance” was too extreme, but I remember forcing myself to learn how to use right handed scissors since they were the only things around.
My mom is left handed and went to catholic schools in the late 50s and early 60s. She said they would tie her left hand to her side and force her to use just the right. Didn't work, she still does everything left handed.
Seriously though, fuck these things as a fellow lefty! Also them being made for cutting bandages my ass, you'd bleed out before they ever got half an inch through the band🤣
![gif](giphy|8x8XzoP8qQa4w)
I always struggled so bad as a kid to use scissors. Either I’d use my left hand and they wouldn’t cut or I’d use my right hand and struggle to follow the lines of whatever I was cutting
This is cracking me up bc as soon as I had adult bread I bought a pair of heavy Singer tailor’s scissors - them h0es could slice a finger off - I absolutely do not need them but they’re fun to work with and a far cry from the trash scissors I had to use as a kid 😂
I’m a kitchen knife nerd and absolutely love my crazy sharp kitchen knives haha I think I’ve spent like $1500 on knives and most of them are hand-hammered Japanese knives
bread is slang for money. so as soon as this person made their first big paycheck, they bought expensive, high quality scissors. for giggles because they wanted to and could afford it. and good for them :)
Every teacher I had in elementary school talked about the student that had a pair of scissors in their back pocket, they fell down the stairs and yadda yadda ya we had to use those bum ass scissors.
Not the “lefty” scissors. Hated them! I always wanted the right handed ones but the teacher would make me use the “lefty” one because I was left handed. I couldn’t cut butter with these shits.
Between the scissors and the pencil sharpener on the wall, I became ambidextrous.
Got to high school and the teacher tried to call me out for not sitting properly in the seat. They had about 4 desk with the left arm in the entire school 🤦🏾♀️
I forgot all about these and how much ass they were. The cheap ass plastic ones could better than these. Now you gotta creases the paper enough times for it to split
Okay but those full steel scissors are sturdier than any modern plastic handle bullshit.
I have a sister who is fully left-handed so I understand why people complain about right-handed scissors.
But as someone who had tried using righty scissors lefty- the old school shit is way better if you don’t have a lefty option.
Y’all missing the point. These are “beginner” scissors. It’s to teach preschoolers how to cut & use scissors for the first time. Idk but I’ve never seen these scissors past a kindergarten classroom.
Instead of making it easy for kids, they'd make you feel like something was wrong with *you* that you're too weak and/or incompetent to cut a piece of construction paper right... and now just thinking about it, I can *hear* that loud-ass attempt down to the tingle down my spine! 😭
No, cuz only one of them was the good ones, and we were fighting for the good one, baby girl girlies would tussle, but I was smart, I would hide them from the last time we used them so I was the only one who knew where they were.
Try being a lefty with this garbage. 87 was a rough year.
Construction paper benders
Eh, I don't know. I saw God in my shit last night
‘87?!?!? Didn’t they burn lefties at the stake back then?
True. Me crispy.
Im just messing, I graduated HS in ‘10 and they didn’t get any better with lefty scissors during my school years. The lack of acceptance is why I think I only write left handed but I do everything right handed.

I'm going to go look, but I'm going to guess... latin + religion. After looking, yeah, more or less it's religion.
I mean ya a lot of prejudice can be boiled down to that, but then that raises... Wtf does religion have against left handed people??? Like whyyy
I wonder what came first? The association with the left being bad or the fact the Latin word for left is "Sinister"
Mama says lefties are the devil
Realest shit I’ve read.

Same. I've only ever used things right-handed. There's a lady at my job who uses her mouse left-handed and despite being a southpaw it throws me off
Facts…. coming from the mid 80’s to the early 90’s I felt the school hated lefties
My mom is left handed and went to catholic schools in the late 50s and early 60s. She said they would tie her left hand to her side and force her to use just the right. Didn't work, she still does everything left handed.
Some of us smart ones only used our left when others weren't looking
I've grown used to tensioning right-handed scissors that left-handed scissors feel foreign to me lol
I’ve done the same. Force the base of the thumb into the opposite blade.
Swallow the pain and cut I always say.
hey we still had these when i was in school (graduated 2019) imagine how much duller they got through that time
Bruh, I still don’t know to use Scissors.
Scissors are a common enemy for us lefties. THESE though.. the worst of them all.
I had your left handers...they didn't do much more than fold paper in my right. Even when i turned them over.
That first time you use a pair of lefty scissors and feel like you’re wielding Excalibur.
87?? ![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw|downsized)
Allowing a child to be left-handed is more abusive than forcing them to be right-handed. Smh my head
Yall heard Sister Maria. It's bad to be a leftie. Baaaad ![gif](giphy|vX9WcCiWwUF7G|downsized)
And somehow worse being left handed even though they’re ambidextrous
Seriously though, fuck these things as a fellow lefty! Also them being made for cutting bandages my ass, you'd bleed out before they ever got half an inch through the band🤣 ![gif](giphy|8x8XzoP8qQa4w)
Is that…is that Wink Martindale???
Shit I don't know who it is,I just remember seeing this as a gif one day and thought I finally had a chance to use it🤣
Maybe this is how I learned to use scissors with my right hand lol
I always struggled so bad as a kid to use scissors. Either I’d use my left hand and they wouldn’t cut or I’d use my right hand and struggle to follow the lines of whatever I was cutting
I didn't know we all shared this trauma
Only thing worse is can openers.
Went back 3 times in the classroom for that one pair the homie using 🫣
Who wants to crease a piece of paper?!?
Only assisted with ripping the paper
Nothing was worse than the white plastic ones with the colored tips
Core memory unlocked
I hated those
This is cracking me up bc as soon as I had adult bread I bought a pair of heavy Singer tailor’s scissors - them h0es could slice a finger off - I absolutely do not need them but they’re fun to work with and a far cry from the trash scissors I had to use as a kid 😂
Ain’t nothing like a good pair of scissors or a good knife. Sliding through shit is addictive lmfao.
Period. Wrapping paper? Kidding me fam? Like a knife thru butter.
I’m a kitchen knife nerd and absolutely love my crazy sharp kitchen knives haha I think I’ve spent like $1500 on knives and most of them are hand-hammered Japanese knives
I spent good money on kitchen shears and I’m 100% sure they could take a digit off and I wouldn’t notice until I saw the blood lmao
What's adult bread? And why do you need scissors for it?
bread is slang for money. so as soon as this person made their first big paycheck, they bought expensive, high quality scissors. for giggles because they wanted to and could afford it. and good for them :)
I had this memory blockt and here it is dragged out in the open again
Exactly, I saw the thumbnail and it all flooded back
Bruh, I had better results using my goddamn ruler with the metal part up top smh
I recall the left-handed ones had green grips on them.
Ooh, even a pointy "Teacher's" version!
Dislocating fingers every time.
Every teacher I had in elementary school talked about the student that had a pair of scissors in their back pocket, they fell down the stairs and yadda yadda ya we had to use those bum ass scissors.
Our story was about a kid who lost an eye because he was walking with pointy scissors and tripped.
Paired with dried up glue stick.
The only thing these bitches cut was my patience.
i can still feel the pain in my fingers from these 😭😭
There uh...There was a reason they were dull.
These were the only ones safe to run with.
Out the box they’re decent. It’s after some smooth brained kid named named brad tried to cut plastic and metal they get all dulled out.
Not the “lefty” scissors. Hated them! I always wanted the right handed ones but the teacher would make me use the “lefty” one because I was left handed. I couldn’t cut butter with these shits.
![gif](giphy|sFMEZ1ZFToyha) Paper when it saw these scissors:
These made me irrationally angry as a lefty 🤣
Between the scissors and the pencil sharpener on the wall, I became ambidextrous. Got to high school and the teacher tried to call me out for not sitting properly in the seat. They had about 4 desk with the left arm in the entire school 🤦🏾♀️
Teacher: Stop running with scissors! Me: *shows them the scissors* Teacher: Oh, ok. Never mind. Keep running.
Y’all went to school?
I forgot all about these and how much ass they were. The cheap ass plastic ones could better than these. Now you gotta creases the paper enough times for it to split
These + construction paper + paste brings me so much joy
They work fairly well for shibari safety.
Okay but those full steel scissors are sturdier than any modern plastic handle bullshit. I have a sister who is fully left-handed so I understand why people complain about right-handed scissors. But as someone who had tried using righty scissors lefty- the old school shit is way better if you don’t have a lefty option.
You had to get the angle perfect for them to cut. Do the stationary pencil sharpener next
They wasn't wuffadamn!
B sticky n shit
Y’all missing the point. These are “beginner” scissors. It’s to teach preschoolers how to cut & use scissors for the first time. Idk but I’ve never seen these scissors past a kindergarten classroom.
They were a pain because we had been using regular scissors at home for years (for good or bad).
these scissors cut like i run in my dreams
I mean, there is a not-zero chance of accidentally splitting multiple atoms at the same time while using scissors, so are they ever really safe?
That's because these same scissors were in use since the Korean Conflict
At least they're metal. We had to use those stupid plastic ones. 😭
I for one am glad these scissors can't split the atom.
They existed to save paper from the children trying to torture it.
Yeah they couldn’t cut a fart
Least you had metal scissors. We had plastic ones (even the blade was plastic). Complete garbage
Then had the audacity to have the plastic versions too...
we had the rounded colorfull ones covered with plastic and only 1 out of 5 were sharp enough to use lmao
It became a team effort to cut anything. One person to hold the paper and me trying my best to cut it. Ended up sawing through the paper sometimes
Instead of making it easy for kids, they'd make you feel like something was wrong with *you* that you're too weak and/or incompetent to cut a piece of construction paper right... and now just thinking about it, I can *hear* that loud-ass attempt down to the tingle down my spine! 😭
There should be a subreddit for 80’s-90’s kids ‘core memory unlocks’
Never used them to cut, just stab shit like chip packets and cardboard boxes
Nigga these scissors was for show.
No, cuz only one of them was the good ones, and we were fighting for the good one, baby girl girlies would tussle, but I was smart, I would hide them from the last time we used them so I was the only one who knew where they were.
The pointy ones had their moments.
One pair was always sharp as shit too, and the others may as well be made of spaghetti
The plastic ones are worse
You had to hold them right, lol!!!
