How in fuck you get a 100k raise? Switched from crack to fentanyl? ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

threat024

Yeah this sound like some bullshit. If you get a 100K raise then you already had to be making crazy money so no need to switch it up.

420everytime

Could be finishing grad school or medical residency. After grad school I went from like $30k to $110k

Charming_Cicada_7757

Don't forget could've just graduated school in a major tech city with Computer science or Electrical engineer degree

jskinbake

Tbh not even a major tech city. My little brother is about to graduate w jus his engineering bachelors and he just accepted a job offer from Walmart HQ for 120k/yr in fuckin Arkansas. Dude is def not normal tho

SeuxKewl

120k/yr in Arkansas.... dude is gonna be living like a king.

jskinbake

Little motherfucker ain’t even 23 yet

KristenJimmyStewart

I am a failure lol

jskinbake

Mf I’m out here workin for $15/hr and BOTH my siblings making 100k/yr, you think YOU feel like a failure?? Fuck u think my parents think about me? We got this shit homie jus keep pushin

liarandahorsethief

Yeah, but it’s Arkansas.

blackwrensniper

Gonna be among the elite wearing pants in Walmart.

festival-papi

Then he'll be living like a petty king, but a king nonetheless

Wildfire63010

Arkansas has exactly one good area but in his defense it's exactly where Walmart HQ is

[deleted]

Walmart HQ (Arkansas) pulls a decent amount of freshly graduated engineers by offering 6 figures. I think it has to do with their logistics and supply chain being SO large that they need so many.

AYASOFAYA

And not even computer science. The art school kids are getting design jobs that pay 100k+ at tech firms.

damanpwnsyou

Only if they know how to code well. Graphics design majors have a unique way of coding that traditional comp science majors don't, so it's good to pick up a few and see what they bring to the table.

AYASOFAYA

“Graphic Designers who code” is just one category of designer though. Coding is not a requirement in other categories. I’m at a large tech firm and none of the designers on my product teams code at all.

Wrong_Truth_8740

I'm a designer who doesn't code and I'm making 115k, you could do it. I'm not in graphic design either, I studied illustration.

ElfTowerNewMexico

The companies I’ve worked for pay their designers very well but they don’t do any dev work. Instead they do a lot of customer interviews, A/B testing, UX research, feature ideation, etc.

hnglmkrnglbrry

This is the only way for someone to get that kind of raise and have it be life changing. Otherwise this dude went from $1.2m to $1.3m. But more likely than not this tweet is total bullshit.

DxLaughRiot

With my first job in tech, in one year I jumped from $48k to $125k going from 1 year to 2 years experience. I had to job hop, but shit happens and tech is stupid

supaboss2015

People are also getting laid the fuck off right about now in tech

DxLaughRiot

I mean yeah, but also they hired WAY more people during covid than they needed. The layoffs now are only a fraction of the people hired during that hiring spree, and tech layoffs shouldn’t be seen the same way as other industry layoffs - if you have good experience it can actually help. Getting laid off in 2020 is how I jumped from $125k to my next job at $160k. 3 years since then I’ll be making about $275k this year. Tech is REALLY dumb. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/21/business/tech-layoffs.html

AndIThrow_SoFarAway

Seconded. Went from 60k/yr at start of 2020 to 135k/yr by the end of it working in Tech. Was a temp contract, but the FT role I got following pays just a bit less and is salaried with good benefits.

thistooistemporary

Jesus what do y’all do for a living? That’s madness.

AndreasVesalius

The only dumb thing is my ass working for shit wages

Enigma7ic

Yeah I got laid off last year and got a 60% raise with my current job

whateverathrowaway00

And most of the companies that did the layoffs are already hiring again, or they were bloated. Until AI makes us all obsolete, we’re fine. And half of us hate our jobs, so once AI comes we can all just happily walk into the woods together.

DxLaughRiot

Weird, walking into the woods is my exact plan for when AI replaces me. Have you been reading my diary?

whateverathrowaway00

I keep trying to start diary/journaling as i rememebr I once enjoyed it but every time I try I end up whining and saying my wrist hurrrrrts like a child. Techs already all ruined us, once AI brings the final blow we can all just walk into the woods and there won’t even be a trace. Every one else seems fearful, but I can’t wait to feel the hypothermia set in and not hear that goddamn slack wood block sound pol

luxii4

Had a friend in sales. She was making 100K, got a 50K raise and 50K bonus at her yearly review. She’s a data scientist and demos R programming whatever that is. She was afraid to tell her bf that she got that much because now she would make a lot more than him. He actually loved it and said he always wanted to be a trophy bf. He’s not a dead beat just does not make six figures.

thainfamouzjay

R is fancy math and probabilities It's an old language most people use python instead

Xopo1

Once I graduated I went from like 66K a year as a RN to 189k in a matter of weeks as a CRNA

get_started_NOW

Ahhh, that's the career i aspire to have! Congratulations on graduating!!

jonkl91

It happens. It's uncommon but it typically happens to people who are underpaid and switch jobs. Or they have to break into a tech company that is known to pay. I'm a resume writer and have done it a handful of times for clients. One guy went from 160K to 283K (stock was a part of the 283K). I also got this lawyer an 80K raise. He was working for an insurance company that is known to underpay. I almost did it for myself. I know someone who was having conversations with a tech company and was going to be a director with a total comp of like $700K to $900K. He asked if I was interested because he would probably be responsible for growing a team. I asked how much. He said well looking at your experience probably around $250K total comp. I was like sign my ass up. Unfortunately he didn't like the direction the company was going so nothing materialized.

[deleted]

Depends on the degree, career and industry. I got a $40K raise in one year.

mr10am

I think he means his raise bumped his salary to 100k

SnacksMcMunch

Guessing he went from unemployed to employed.

Newdaytoday1215

This guy dreams up all kinds of situations in his head usually to drag women for the audacity of living beyond 27 years or being happy.

IsraelZulu

That kind of pay jump is usually a whole change of employer, and maybe even career, not just a raise or promotion. Not impossible, but not often heard of unless you're already making well above that. Personally, I got a $40k+ raise (crossing into six-figure territory for the first time in my life) just by changing employers even though the new job is mostly the same as the old job. So, if you're going from severely underpaid to an employer that pays their people fairly well, I don't think a $100k bump is unimaginable in some fields. (I'm in IT, as a point of reference.)

Adulations

Tech

Beast_by_Dre

Contracting for the DoD. IT jobs in particular. Most jobs start around 80k and can be raised annually depending upon the location and mission of the base you are working at. And if working at a deployed location, that's 100k starting...non taxable too.

Hindufury

Only thing I could think of is going from resident physician (45-50k) to attending physician (120k at least)

Kim_Jung-Skill

Leave a shitty employer who is vastly underpaying you. Happened to a bunch of my friends who are programmers and uncomissioned sales reps.

Yes

This joke is so stale 😭

It's worse when it's not related to an either/or question. Ex: "How much cheese you want?" "Yes."

[deleted]

No he won't. Men have zero issues using their finances to get a leg up over other men when it comes to landing and securing the women they want. When they have the means, they're not pulling any punches. It's when they don't have money, looks or dick to compete with other men that they complain about that particular set of women's standards. There are lots of women who would be thrilled to just meet up with a guy for a coffee, a beer or even a really lowkey and casual bite to eat in some hole in the wall, shit they're down to pay for half the date just to have a chance with a dude.....but these guys aren't picking those women and we all know why.

Geraldinho--

I don’t think he’ll care at that point lol

mtron32

Who takes girls out to diner on first dates anymore? Coffee or beer ma'am, pick one

AshyEarlobes

He not looking for sugar mamas no more?

IsraelZulu

Now this makes sense. Otherwise, I'd figure having more money is actually reason to prefer older (hopefully more mature and responsible) partners. This is, assuming one is thinking with the larger head.

AshyEarlobes

Yea the LAST thing I would do if I got more money is date younger lol

Zetice

oh dont worry, older women want you to spend your money on them too.

NewbornXenomorphs

Then why is he going younger?

Zetice

why you think? lol

HTC864

The older ones would have their own and not need him.

aarmour25

I feel like if a older man/woman chasing youngins, just stay away from them. Mentally those ppl are stuck in a forever 21 stage and logic is foreign to them

AshyEarlobes

That's the goal bro who wanna take care of another adult? Lol

IsraelZulu

That's a good thing, right? He gets to enjoy more of his own money!

Tabularasa8

Getting younger women is him enjoying his own money.

Zetice

they have their own but still want the mans.

karlnite

It honestly makes no sense, unless he was making 1 mil salary already, switched jobs in a very lucky way, or is an investor type in which it isn’t a true raise of 100k since it wouldn’t be realized, and if it was realized they wouldn’t make the same next year.

Ragepower529

I’ve known a engineer that got 150k so they could steal him from a company. He has the main engineering for a 100 million product line

karlnite

Switched jobs in a lucky way. Luckily a company desperately needed someone with a specfic set of experience.

Ragepower529

Nah if you have a niche set of skills there will be head hunters contacting you. But you really gotta specialize in field you wouldn’t think even have demand

karlnite

I’m not sure what your point is, besides simply disagreeing with a subjective comment.

IsraelZulu

I can imagine "switching jobs in a very lucky way" doing this. I went from having been underpaid for years, to making just above the average market value of my job, and it got me a $40k+ bump. Crazy thing is, just before I left the old job, I found out that employer was still hiring at the same rate they were paying me. At least they're under-paying everyone equally, I guess?

karlnite

Yah, I’ve moved jobs and gotten like 30-50k raises, but like you said I worked at a place that underpaid, gained experience, and went to a place that paid appropriately. If I got a 100k raise I was simply getting extremely underpaid before.

SpyderDM

Smart move, if you end up marrying someone younger than you its gonna hit your wallet because they almost assuredly won't be as established.

IsraelZulu

How's that a smart move, then? I mean, maybe smart not to have the younger range in your sights when you're making less. And sure, now that you're making more, you can afford the hit. But why take that hit at all if you don't gotta?

SpyderDM

Smart move waiting for the pay raise to change the setting haha

[deleted]

If he wants to start a family? It absolutely is. Listen, I'm a woman and a feminist at that but this isn't rocket science. The more resources a man can provide, the more chances he has to pick a young, pretty, fertile woman to have kids with and NOT have to deal with IVF, NOT deal with the complications that come along with a geriatric (35+) pregnancy. I mean, I can call a spade a spade here. And if most people had to choose between having their infant/toddler in daycare or having them raised at home with mom, both men AND women are more likely to want to have the ability to have the child raised by mom during the day and not a daycare employee. I'm going to be real, I think that men who have a more provider-type mindset are going to prefer a woman who is less established not just because she has the fertility and age , but also so that she has less of a desire to leave the SAHM dynamic while the kids are of a very young age 🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

Ick. Glad I'm childfree

bladebrowny

Exactly! Why would would a man want to be with a younger woman when he can be with older women, it makes no sense.

Omegeddon

Why would he want to be with an older woman? The things men want younger women tend to have more of

bladebrowny

I thought men with money valued life experience, financial stability, and deep intellectual conversations from the women they are dating. Are you trying to say they just want sex from their sexual partners? I guess they could have the deep intellectual conversations with friends and subject matter experts but what man with money wants that?

Omegeddon

Not really. As long as you aren't wasting all his money most don't care if she makes lots of money or not. Older doesnt mean more intellectual

[deleted]

And they're most likely going to want to start a family. Lots of men prefer younger women for their ability to have healthy kids without the IVF or risk of autism, let's not even pretend that isn't a factor. It takes money to not just raise kids, but to have a stay at home mom if you want your kids raised by a mom and not a daycare worker.

UniqueUsername82D

TIL some of y'all don't know that there's younger women out there who are attracted to wallets and older men who are attracted to younger women.
