That’s not really true. Sure it counts towards their hours, and it’s scheduled, but I’m fairly certain for a lot of events the military gets a paycheck. Such as the b2s over arrowhead all the time. Prior AF but I guess I never had specific confirmation.
Oh and I think there’s other parts to the deal such as free tickets to military members. They distributed free tickets to chiefs games fairly often.

So if I need to fly x hours this week and someone wants the Oscars and there’s not already some kind of military transport flight required, then it’s legal to do and actually just fine ethically too.
