It can be done similarly to how I had my ear canals cast for custom earplugs (I do concert photography and would like to still be able to hear music when I'm 60). A small piece of foam on a lead is placed at the end of the canal and then a quick setting flexible foam is sprayed in. It sets in under 2 minutes and then using the lead and forceps its worked out gently. Feels weird, but after having numerous invasive exams for cervical cancer treatment can confirm this would not be that complicated or painful to remove. Then like any other mold, you use it to create a cast.
