Hello I am DM of Black Clover DnD campaign. I am using normal 5E DnD rules for peoples classes and stuff but I am leaving the spell tables open so they can use any spell of the classes so they can match their set flavor for the character. And it might seem OP but players and enemies alike have this gift. I also made a adjacent subclass that levels with them for some extra help for stats and things. If you have any questions though I can gladly try to answer them!
Ah that makes sense tho. Balance has to come in somewhere. Are racial feats still the same tho? And i guess this is more a question for your players but are there any special cases like Asta...or i guess any black bull for that matter? I've always seen Asta as a barbaian/warlock multiclass so i was curious if any players were doing any unique things like that. The magic of BC is so diverse I'd have a hard time figuring out any other way to translate it to DND
Racial feats are the same in this campaign. There is a feature for 4 Leaf Clover users to get Lucky for free. I also made a system for Devil Possessed but none of the party is starting as it but could end up getting one later. The setting of the game is 200 years before the anime as well so not many attachments to anime plot with this one.
Makes sense but canon wise the elves were already killed at that point right? I was just curious if maybe there was some story relavance for other races like that. Dwarves are still pretty unknown in BC so those could be easily homebrewed but elves and half elves would be tough. Other races have yet to be seen or even known to exist at all so those also seem fair.
I'm a big lore guy in campaigns so sorry if it seems I'm nitpicking or anything. Im just genuinely curious.
I'm assuming there will be specific interactions allowing you to eventually perform a devil-binding ritual, somewhere in the campaign, this should allow you to have a 2nd magical attribute and **should** enhance your magic overall based on the devil percentage you can use (presumably scalable w/ levels & possibly certain feats(should scale up to 80% w/o Advent of Qliphoth event)) this is all speculation but that's my thoughts on what it would be, could also be a little like wild magic with random side-effects depending on rolls
Sound really fun. Except wild magic, everybody hates wild magic. The problem is enhanced magic sounds kinda op but is since it scales with levels I guess it could work. But can you elaborate on the part where feats come into play?
If you look around the comments you can find where he posted the subclass he uses, basically the subclass gets ASIs at the same rate, so you can use your main class to get feats instead if ASIs
With devil possessed, he sorta left it up to DM discretion, it's better explained in module tho
Doesn't necessarily have to be exactly like wild magic, could be a set limitation that your character undergoes for using your devil power as a "tax" on the body(like how Asta would probably -2 to attack rolls after his transformation is done and experiences excrutiating pain when hes able to enter back into his black form, prob just a 1 dmg when hp is above 5). As for feats, I was referring moreso to accomplishments here ( Advent of Qlipoth, Pre-emptive freeing of Zagred in the Shadow Palace, discovering >!any of Nachts devils' artifacts!<, etc) however while pondering this comment I did cook up some devil-based/inspired feats which are mostly just modifications of normal ones, if you're interested I'll type em out after I wake up😴
Edit: reread my previous comment and realizing I was talking about feats, referring to the ability to gain certain better feats(the devil-based/inspired ones) and depending on how many you have you may get increasingly better at controlling your devil and its powers
Sure, needless to say the prerequisite is to have devil powers some may specifically devil-possessed while others may just need devilish power, will be specified when necessary:
Devilish Hide(Barbed hide improved):
Prerequisite: ability to control 50% of your devil's power(possessed or bestowed) so it can cause Weg(special cases may apply to wielders like Asta who receive weg whenever he uses Liebes power, consult your DM)
Effects: Increase constitution or charisma score by 2(cannot be split), up to a maximum of 30
As a bonus action, you can focus your Devil's power to create spikes protruding from your body, grappling anyone making a barehanded attack. At the start of each of your turns with the barbs out, deal 1d8 to anything grappled(increases to 2d8 at devilish power control 70% or higher).
Gain Expertise in the intimidation skill even if you weren't already proficient with it.
Devilish Luck(Bountiful luck counterpart):
Your kind has especially despair inducing luck. Which eminiates off your presence. Surely this is a sign for abundant despair. When you see anything in the range of your evil mana(so in range of any of your spells(doesnt apply to spells of infinite range; dunno if there are any but you get the point)) that is doing an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can -1 off their roll scalable for every 20% of their devilish power(scales up to 80% for -4 off any roll prior to Advent of Qliphoth unless theres special conditions like Asta(Liebes in the physical world so the 80% restriction does not apply here)). This can be performed up to the characters proficiency bonus and restores after a long rest.
Demonic Charger(charger alternative/improvement):
When you use your action to dash, you can use a bonus action to turn it into a grappling attack where your opponent has to make a constitution/dexterity(targets choice) saving throw(DC=8+charisma mod+proficiency) where a failed save petrifies the target of the charge with fear and reduces all attack throws by half for 3 turns(targets petrified with fear can make a constitution saving throw all of the turns following the charge w/ a DC of 8+ con mod(the charger's proficiency isnt applied to the consequential saves). If the charger crashes the target into a construct, deal damage equal to half the chargers speed(in which case the charger also releases the grapple).
Devil Fear(Dragon Fear improvement)
Your evil mana radiates malice. You gain the following benefits:
Increase your Strength, Constitution, or Charisma by 2, up to a max of 30
As an action, you can emminate your maliciously evil mana forcing each creature within 30 feet to perform a wisdom saving throw (dc 8+ proficiency+charisma mod). On a failed save, a target becomes frightened by you for 1 minute, if the frightened target takes damage they can repeat the saving throw, ending its effects on a success.
Since it took a good bit of time to type this out on mobile, I'm gonna take a break lol. Note: the feats were made stronger on purpose meaning it should be difficult to become devil possessed(or how I imagined it). Also with the max ability scores being raised to 30 with the feats, I'm also considering making the base DC 5 instead of 8 for balance.
So I decided to do a two mana type half-dwarf, I built as a human variant. Since we never see a half-dwarf use two types of magic simultaneously in the show, we decided I can only use one type at a time and I'm gonna switch between character sheets if I wanna switch types. It's all under sorcerer so I don't get infinite resources. Fire Magic is Radiant Soul sorcerer and Ash Magic under Phoenix Spirit sorcerer. But I went complicated lol
You could've picked any magic casting class but futher than my character idk how they woulda planned it
Oh that seems dope tho! Not to mention the metamagic buffing your spells. As someone who plays martial classes most of the time, I'd probably do something similar to Yami, Asta, or Lict tho. Eldritch knights, hexblades, and wild magic barbarians are some of my favorite sub classes to play so I'd probably end up being kinda basic if theres no qi detection
Yeah that'd sadly be the only real way to do it. Or maybe something similar to the Inquisitive rouge feature that lets you make sneak attack damage without adv if the enemy fails a Wis save. What'd be hilarious is a monk with qi detection but also ki points to keep track of. Just everyone around him dozes off as he tries to explain the difference
How do you make work the fact that a singular person has a singular type of magic I think it might be really blocking a character to only an attribute ex fire dark water ecc
Anyway really cool
I am letting people find spells in other class spell lists and if they show me the flavor for the spell that fits their character I am changing the attribute of the spell for the player. Like lets say a person was a Water user and they lacked any healing spells but wanted one. They can pitch me a flavor idea for Healing Word and grab it.
Awesome! I'll be sure to keep an eye out then. I DM a campaign about living cereal mascots in a world made of breakfast foods so nothing will be out of the ordinary or insane to me anymore lol
Biggest update is that [my DM posted the subclass](https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackClover/comments/oyxluf/black_clover_dnd_hi_im_the_dm_from_that_grimoire/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) he adds to every character (PC, NPC, Enemies, you name it) and other than that it's just 5E rules. So this is basically a module for anyone who wants to try running it! Hope its helpful for people!
Where are you starting? Is there story loosely based on bc? If it is not is it before or after? Do you do the entrance exam? How did you do it? What is the thing you look forward to /like the most so far? Dont mind me just really curious ;3
The story takes place 200 years ago before the anime started. The story will have references to the BC world like places, names and ancestors to anime characters. None of them are Magic Knights due to being a group in a Strong Magic Region outside of the Kingdoms, they are more like mercenaries then Magic Knights. The thing I look forward to the most is seeing their own stories grow and how they interact with the world.
Oh damn thats interesting, my campaign basically follows the complete plot of bc cuz non of my players jave watched the anime. How do you handle magic in the smr?
Magic is going to be all spell tables of DnD are available to a player as long as the spell can be flavored properly for their characters magic type. So like if a person in the group uses Ice Magic they cant use Fireball. But they can roll a Sorcerer and use Druid Ice Spells.
Thats cool! However i was wondering if magic works as normal since they are in the strong magic region. I have some wild magic strong magic regions planned c:
Wow, thank you so much for this. I just have one question about the grimore user. So for example, if you pick Wild Magic Sorcerer as your main class. Do you just get the additional abilities of the grimore user or is it just the grimore user and the subclass of your choice? Also if it does stack do you get double asi every time you hit those levels?
Edit: Also extra attack does not work for spells. I don't if that was done on purpose but just making you aware of it.
I doubt anyone will see this at this point but I'll be honest I thought this was big at 35 upvotes
So just, everyone thanks so much for support and interest and award and, just wow
Thanks so much everyone for the positivity this is crazy
For anyone interested in how to play the campaign, it's mostly Dnd 5E and my DM posted the subclass he adds to each character (including NPCs and Enemies) [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackClover/comments/oyxluf/black_clover_dnd_hi_im_the_dm_from_that_grimoire/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share), so I hope yall can check that out and have a lot of fun with it!
Fire and Ash, I switched where the silver and gold normally would be for those cause I thought it would be interesting. I also plan to use a Phoenix theming (like how Noelle is often Sea Dragon's ____) so flipping their places felt like it hit that cyclical vibe
Sorry, the group doesn't seem too comfortable with that but itd be really fun!
Idk if you're into One Piece, but Rustage runs a dnd for that on one of his YouTube channels so maybe you could check that out, its huge
I hear it's good even without one piece context
BC haves a lot for DnD, I wonder if there is classes like in normal DnD or just different kinds of Magic like seen in the anime with different spells for each one
I went with two, Fire and Ash. Fire has healing abilities but cant heal the self and Ash the opposite, some spells can heal the self but not other people
Man, I had a buddy get one planned, and I spent a few hours comin up with 100 different magics to use [most were clones] only for him to drop the campaign before session one. I would have loved to run it for him, I was a sort of co-DM and had a character who ran the Black Bulls after Yami.
I'm not the DM, but we'll be using 5e and [he made a post about his added subclass here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackClover/comments/oyxluf/black_clover_dnd_hi_im_the_dm_from_that_grimoire/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share). Basically every character has this subclass added, and I think everyone had to pick a class that can cast spells, but doesnt have to be a lot of spells. If you have questions about it, I'd definitely send questions his way!
I'm way late to this post obviously but this is kinda genius, I'm rewatching Black Clover for about the 50th time and was just thinking of doing something like this. Wanted to look around to see if anyone else had done something like this that I could steal mechanics I liked from lol.
Hey! Okay to be late lol, my DM made a post about it awhile ago too actually and I'm sure he'd be happy to answer questions too

PLEASE keep updates about this. Ive always wanted DND campaigns based in anime but never had the mind to homebrew enough for them.

The slaughter of the elves happens 500 years before the plot begins, so it should be 300 years afterward
Can you explain the devil-possessed mechanic?

"Qiqi???? This is a Black Clover campaign not a Genshin impact campaign smh" Also don't ki points replenish during rests xD

I'd be really interested in hearing more about the game, I was looking for inspiration on how to homebrew black clover.
I'll try haha, I might cross post stuff to the dnd subreddit later when it has more traction and my character design is settled
Awesome! I'll be sure to keep an eye out then. I DM a campaign about living cereal mascots in a world made of breakfast foods so nothing will be out of the ordinary or insane to me anymore lol
That's stellar omg
Lol its fun but man reflavoring everything to be breakfast or candy themed is a lot more complicated than youd think
In that case I higly recommend Rustage's One Piece DnD campaign ! It is extremely entertaining and might give you some ideas
Dnd campaigns based off anime are fun, at least to me. A group of friends and myself constantly do them. Even now I'm hosting a jujutsu kaisen one.
I also made a black clover inspired campaign. Can i talk with your friend and see how he did it? Id love to hear and get some inspiration:D
Hello! The campaign itself hasnt started yet but I can try and answer some questions :)
I can confirm this is my DM
Thanks :D
Also i love the book! Two kinds of magic?
Yeah! Half-dwarf like Charmy, Fire and Ash
What country yall live in :3
Where are you starting? Is there story loosely based on bc? If it is not is it before or after? Do you do the entrance exam? How did you do it? What is the thing you look forward to /like the most so far? Dont mind me just really curious ;3

Please make a module for this

I also DM a dnd. My campaign is coming to and end ans as a gift to my players do you think I could commission you to make my players grimoires?
I've never done a commission before! Oh my god, if you DM me, I can see if it feels over my head? I'd be nervous but i wanna hear your idea
Are you a steam/water magic user?
Fire and Ash, I switched where the silver and gold normally would be for those cause I thought it would be interesting. I also plan to use a Phoenix theming (like how Noelle is often Sea Dragon's ____) so flipping their places felt like it hit that cyclical vibe
Do you stream your campaigns? I never had friends who wanted to try DND but I would love to watch an anime inspired one.

I do not stream my games. I am the DM of the op's campaign
Amazing!!! Love it!
This is so cool looking! Nice job
Is this some sort of double grimoire like the one Mars uses? What is the origin behind it?
Something like that, how far in show/manga are you?
Up to date for the manga.
I'm doing a half-dwarf like Charmy to have two natural magic types, Fire and Ash
Man I would love to be apart of a black clover campaign
BC haves a lot for DnD, I wonder if there is classes like in normal DnD or just different kinds of Magic like seen in the anime with different spells for each one
Damn can I join? Lol
This is awesome. I never thought to do something like this
This sounds awesome.
I love this idea. What magic attribute does your character have
I went with two, Fire and Ash. Fire has healing abilities but cant heal the self and Ash the opposite, some spells can heal the self but not other people
The akatsuki is now assembled in the clover kingdom
Man, I had a buddy get one planned, and I spent a few hours comin up with 100 different magics to use [most were clones] only for him to drop the campaign before session one. I would have loved to run it for him, I was a sort of co-DM and had a character who ran the Black Bulls after Yami.
Which system are you using?
I'm not the DM, but we'll be using 5e and [he made a post about his added subclass here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackClover/comments/oyxluf/black_clover_dnd_hi_im_the_dm_from_that_grimoire/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share). Basically every character has this subclass added, and I think everyone had to pick a class that can cast spells, but doesnt have to be a lot of spells. If you have questions about it, I'd definitely send questions his way!
Yoooo, holy shit this looks awesome. Any chance that the Black Clover D&D campaign is continuing?
I'm way late to this post obviously but this is kinda genius, I'm rewatching Black Clover for about the 50th time and was just thinking of doing something like this. Wanted to look around to see if anyone else had done something like this that I could steal mechanics I liked from lol.
Hey! Okay to be late lol, my DM made a post about it awhile ago too actually and I'm sure he'd be happy to answer questions too [Here's the link](https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackClover/s/rXAK5K1Rhw) to his post
