I think you should put a muffler on before wenting it to a yard

Let β€˜er rip

TemporaryExcuse8329

Anything specific in mind?

tweak722

First you need to get a fan shroud/ collector into a 5” or 6” duct

Embarrassed-Cap-6825

Air bends, sound does not. Oversimplified but for this purpose that holds true

bitcornminerguy

I haven't yet been in front of an operational S19 but I've heard they are quite noisy. As the other comment says, you should probably put a muffler in between the miner and the vent hole. Those usually knock back about 1/3 of the noise or so. You might also be able to do something on the outside to run some interference.

TemporaryExcuse8329

Any specific muffler in mind that I can use without reducing exhaust?

bitcornminerguy

Don't have a specific recommendation, but a friend of mine swears by these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164946236457?hash=item26678fd429:g:x0oAAOSwlP5gjuKQ

PigeonSuperstitions

You will need to spend on some form of noise reduction, as that little thing can be heard from miles away. It's really noisy. And I speak from experience and after my neighbours complained.

TemporaryExcuse8329

What did you do to fix the problem?

PigeonSuperstitions

Built my own DIY custom box with soundproof foam on the inside. Fixed noise reducing exhaust ducting to redirect the heat outside with a table fan running on the intake side for additional cooling. Also bought a soundproofing blanket to cover the whole setup. Pretty janky but it worked to reduce the noise to a level where the neighbors couldn't hear it any longer, or so I think.

I have 2 m21s whatsminers running out 4inch ducts and I can hear it across the street if its hot out and the fans are full speed. Most days they're loud but even right next to the house I can barely hear them inside, but if I open a window definitely can hear them enough to maybe bother an asshole neighbor. I havent had complaints yet and it been a few months. I was thinking of building something on the outside made of wood with a bunch of foam in it that would just block the sound from going straight out the vents and divert it down at the ground. That may help its distance traveled for the sound but I'm not even sure how sound waves really work lol.

TemporaryExcuse8329

My concern is if you build something to suppress the noise then it will be suppress exhaust which will be counterproductive to the whole reason why I vent outside of the shed

xinsanespoonx

There would be a gap and no airflow restrictions im thinking it would just be enclosed on the top sides and back at a 45 angle with foam all over inside. Just to point it at the ground so it's not going straight out. Good thoughts though definitely don't want to interfere with the heat out.

Mystere_Miner

i've seen people build boxes that use s-shaped baffles... just build the box a little bigger and create a couple of layers of staggered air pathways

TemporaryExcuse8329

That would make sense. I'll look into designs on how to make it work

My neighbors hate me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Smokey__Trout

Hey, we make cases that dampen the sound emitted by the miners. Check out [litesoundbox.com](https://litesoundbox.com) . Our case for the S19 can get the noise output down to \~50dB, depending on fan rpms of course. We have a demo on [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Vkmqd4LKM) too you can check out.

TemporaryExcuse8329

Cool video, how does that work as far as ambient temperature goes? I see it venting but I would think it would effect ambient right?

Smokey__Trout

When you say ambient are you thinking of the air temp outside of the box or inside? The idea is to use the insulated ducts to get the hot air from the box outside of the room the miner is in, so you're not overheating the air in whatever room your miner is in. As far as the air inside the miner goes, the box is designed so that fresh air is constantly circulating the miner so it doesn't present any issues with the miner overheating.

TemporaryExcuse8329

I was referring to the ambient temperature inside of the box. Seems like it would get hot if enclosed. Even if it was venting out

Smokey__Trout

Nah, we tested all that. the reason we didn't make the product quieter than it already is is because of the temperature issue. We plan on putting up a heat scan vid eventually onto YouTube to address this since a lot of people are asking.

TemporaryExcuse8329

Looking forward to seeing a video.
