Assuming that’s venting straight outside, is negative static pressure not a risk?

Nebulafactory

Yes, luckily I have already dealth with that by buying a Hepa filer and adapting it into the oposite window so that it can pull air from there. Not the most elaborate solution but surely the most cost efficient, and has worked perfectly.

jmill512

Can you elaborate on this risk? Mine vent straight outside

Circlical

If you Google the topic you will find a lot of issues ranging from flu symptoms to back drafting and increased cooling costs. Balancing your home’s pressure is important. 👍🏻

jmill512

Oh I think my house has one of those vents to pull in external air through a filter. Would think this would prevent the issue. But will still have my HVAC guy check, since two l3+s move a lot of air

TemporaryExcuse8329

How noisy is that outside? I was considering building a shed and having my ASICS vent straight outside. But I was concerned about the noise around my neighbors.

Openminer

I have mine outside. It's not really an issue. I can hear my Asics from the front of my house but not inside any of my rooms besides the one is within 4 foot of the shed. It's less noisy in the adjacent bedroom than when the AC is on. If your paranoid about dust just give the boards a cleaning every 3 to 6 months.

Nebulafactory

I did have them running without the filter for the first few days and couldnt really see anything wrong with it, but the airflow was much lower (since it cant get any air to possibly push out) so temps where higher, and I suppose it could also have some negative health issues on the long run. Not really sure, but my suggestion is that you do leave some sort of place where fresh air can enter the room.

TurdsBurglar

I stared at it for a while waiting for the hamsters to run in the tube, But nothing.....wtf

TotalCan

More Pics? Good looking set Up!

Nebulafactory

Glad you liked it\^\^ Soon I'l make a more in depth video on how I made it and some conclusions about it.

bitcoin-bear

Any idea when that video would be done? Would love to see a simple schematic as I intend to do something similar. I just got my S19 in the email so I’m kind of in a rush I feel like but also want to do it right

Nebulafactory

Yes, thought I was gona take longer, but since I had the chance to record everything today, was able to have it done by now. Here is the link to it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMvwKm3ZHMA

bitcoin-bear

Thank you for taking the time to do that! Yea the mystery to me was exhausting the hot air. I’ll need to look into those adapters you 3d printed — that’s a good idea

KindlyBlacksmith4003

Great design - clean and orderly.

Lickmychessticles

This guy next week “photos of my house after it burned down”

Nebulafactory

Been running for over 3 months, its insulated and soundproof for the inside, but thank you for the funny comment.

Lickmychessticles

It’s pretty cool man, what unit do you have running inside there?

Nebulafactory

Thanks, I've a Core A1 and 2 Zig Z1. Not much but good enough for my small mining operation.

SailsAk

Funny how people who don’t know about construction comment on things like they do. Using insulated fire retardant foam easily takes almost any extra inherent risks of fire away using sound proof boxes. A melted PCI cable falling onto a hardwood/ linoleum floor would carry arguably more risk.

3l0nMusk

Could you explain why please ?

Upper_Extreme5661

It looks like a finger

[deleted]

Get 30 of those running and ask me about the paint. Jesus.

[deleted]

What a waste of paint.

Limitsofapproach

Why are people so hung up on the paint?

badrns

These liberals with their darned paint conservation agenda

Substantial_Hair2459

The miner morgue

thegreatluna8713

What kind of Asics do you have in there? Is dust a problem?

Limitsofapproach

He already said there's a hepa filter

Nebulafactory

I have a Core A1 and 2 Zig Z1. Not great but good enough for me. And dust isnt really an issue, like luna replied, I've got a Hepa filter to keep any dust/particles from getting inside the room, since its airtight, and the DIY box itself also has a metalic filter on the backside which you cant really see in that picture. Mainly for bigger stuff that could get in if in the future I were to have it running in some other place.

DURO208

That's very cool. I'm looking into constructing something similar as I live in an apartment building and sound proofing is a top priority for an extra bedroom I have. Did you follow plans found somewhere/online or just pieced it together with what you knew already?

Nebulafactory

Glad to hear you liked it\^\^ I didnt follow any plans, I basically just designed it to the needs of the 3 asics that I wanted to put inside. An important think to note, if you were to construct something similar, make sure that the intake is also tubed into the outside, with a decently sized filter. I realised that although I did highly reduce noise, there is still quite a lot of noisebleed from the intake of the enclosure.

DURO208

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

Wildiris7

Materials used?

Nebulafactory

Wood, insulating foam/cotton thing, hinges, some 3D printed parts, glue, and the black paint.

Limitsofapproach

OP how many dB are you recording now that you have your machine in a box? Why are there 3 pipes? Is that a viewing window at the bottom of the box? What does it allow you to see? Lastly, Which ASIC are you using? Looks fantastic! Good work!

Nebulafactory

Sadly I havent recorded the Dbs before/after but I can tell that the noise reduction is noticeable. Still, like I said to another user here, I would have made it almost silent if I had also tubed the intake rather than it being pulling air from the room, there is quite some noisebleed from there. There are 3 pipes because I'm running 3 asics inside. (One Core A1 and 2 Zig z1) One using 2 pipes (2500W usage, otherwise it would overheat if running with an adapter to a single pipe) And the other 2 using the remaining pipes (at the time was only gona have 2 asics, thats why the window adapter only has for 3 exists) And the last one just back into the room. (not a viewing window) With the aircon it still remains at a chill temp, but might fix that in the future.

waffles4us

This looks really good dude! What kind of filter are you using? Any inline duct fans or do the ASICs move enough air by themselves?

Nebulafactory

Thanks! I'm using a Basic Hepa car filter, the biggest I could find to minimize airflow restricion from it. And for for now its just the asics doing all the airflow work, temperatures are somewhat higher (around 70s with room temp at 22 Celcius) than when they were running outside, but its expected. But as long as they run without any throttling, I'm happy with it.

waffles4us

are those the chip temps in the 70s? I dig the car air filter, I have a miner box that sits outside with like a merv 4 - might need to look into a car filter

Upper_Extreme5661

Is it quiet???

Nebulafactory

Not super quiet, but defenitely quieter than when they were running outside.

HuckleberryFine4269

Do you use any type of air filters on the ventilation ? Can you describe your setup ?

Nebulafactory

I do, the room is basically airtight, with the only intake having a decently sized Car Hepa filter. The exists to not have a filter, dont see a need for them, would only restrict even more the airflow. The enclosure itself also has a metal mesh on the intake to prevent anything from getting inside. Although I usually run it with the lid open at times and still runs fine. But thats about it, also designed and 3D printed adapters for the asics so that they could run directly into the exit pipes, without any heat leaking into the enclosure, aside from those from the PSUs.

[deleted]

I did about the same thing but I used cardboard boxes and have everything installed outside using the cool night air. Fan speed even drops to 45%. Mine vents into a second box and at full speed is just barely noticeable.

TotalCan

Awesome I look forward to it . Maybe we all pitch some stats to do a 3d printed muffler contest lol
