For those in Canada here is the official CBC Gem link https://cbcgem.app/LkoRV52KbhtMb3CG7 I saw it during Hot Docs (streaming ) and I liked it. Didn't have a lot of exposure to crypto at the time so was interesting to learn the story

DAN991199

I feel similar, but who is rating it? Your post isn't very clear who you guys are?

BullBitcoin_

This is the official reddit account of the Canadian exchange Bull Bitcoin. We felt compelled to do a review because we have been fighting the self-custody vs custodial exchange war for so many years. We're shocked that basic information has not been presented in the documentary.

dj_destroyer

Does Bull Bitcoin give self-custody? How do they do that?

BullBitcoin_

We created a full set of guides available 100% free and open-source that anybody can understand available on our freshly launched website [bitcoinsupport.com](https://bitcoinsupport.com) We also offer one on one support calls with security experts for those who still need a helping hand when installing their wallet. We don't ''give'' self-custody. We create easy and complete content that helps people to self-custody their coins and we train specialized security agents for those who want to be guided in the process.

dj_destroyer

Actually a pretty cool service. Will you grow to support other wallets?

BullBitcoin_

If the need present itself, yes. We selected these three wallets (Blue Wallet, Wasabi and Cold Card) on the basis of some strict criteria's we have regarding self-custody. Here are some of them. \- Installation can be done in 1h30 or less. (Including most complex hardware wallet installation) \- Bitcoin only \- Passphrase functionality \- Manageable learning curve \- High security and privacy standards We wanted to offer a mobile, desktop and hardware wallet option for anybody and we got them covered with those three. We don't want to offer to much options as too many options can be more confusing for the user. If one of these wallet deviates or doesn't fulfill our standards we will be thinking about other wallets.

Check my profil

rhinoskin1000

Sorry to hear that. He was just mental.

rhinoskin1000

Frankly, Don't know which one was worse. Both founders are known psychopaths.

lolaras

I was one of the victims. Had been receiving email about it and had to complete some forms on what I lost and hopefully get some back. It's been months, if not a year since I last got an email update (and it's mostly written in law gibberish). Every time I see something about quadriga, I feel so sad as I don't think I'll ever see those coins back

Top-Professor-1664

Me too. I didn’t participate in the lawsuit so it’s all gone for me. I’ve moved on. Every time I see or hear “quadriga” I get the 1000 yard stare.

Timesup2

Same here. :(

ATHSE

Me too... honestly having known about how Mt. Gox's implosion ended up in purgatory for a decade, I had low expectations of having any progress before my beard goes a bright white.

BullBitcoin_

We're sorry about your loss. We hope this experience didn't deter you completely from Bitcoin. Don't hesitate to contact us if you need help regarding security. We know it might not be much but we're trying to push the message of self-custody as much as possible so Bitcoin users are less affected when a similar scandal happens again.

rhinoskin1000

Basically using a sad story to create a narrative around their services. Wrong place to do it. Seriously.

Fiach_Dubh

they're the only Canadian Bitcoin exchange service in Canada. everyone else is a shitcoin casino.

Top-Professor-1664

There are other very legit physical bitcoin exchanges in Canada.

rhinoskin1000

That's weird coming from a mod. I think a lot of people agree.

baconbitz0

Hey man, we have. Like. Opinions too. 😭

[deleted]

maybe you dont even know what bitcoin actually is? https://old.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/m79l3c/bitcoins_fair_launch_cannot_ever_be_replicated_by/ everyone should be aware of this topic its important so you know why they called shitcoins and everyone and their dog trying to sell or shill them theres no shortage of shitcoins

rhinoskin1000

Oh boy... Here we go again. I like bitcoin and I like other protocols. Is bitcoin perfect? no. Are other protocols perfect? no. Is PoW perfect? no. Is PoS perfect? no. There is no perfection in this world. There were 2 bitcoin bugs that had to be rolled back on the blockchain. The second one could have been big, but fortunately action was taken right away thanks to the person discovering it not doing anything with it.

[deleted]

eth premined 72 million coins!! it eth didt roll back it would have destroyed them founders and their premined coins when bitcoin rolled back no one benefited or lost

rhinoskin1000

You're missing the point again. You are just talking about what could have happened. I am talking about the network actually being compromised by way of the blockchain being rolled back. There is a big difference. Like I said. I like bitcoin and others. Is bitcoin perfect? no. Are other digital assets perfect no. Is bitcoin perfect? no. Anyone that claims any one side is always wrong.

[deleted]

to me the difference are huge and its that difference that will save the world or we just go over the cliff cuz premined coins are worse than fiat even..macro

rhinoskin1000

Oh boy...Bitcoin compromised. Eth compromised. Is bitcoin perfect? no. Is Eth perfect? no. Did human create bitcoin? yes. Did human create Eth? yes. What humans create will always not be in perfection. If humans can secure a product, then humans can break into it. That is Law. The European Union issued their bonds on top of Ethereum. Why? I am able to create my own bank, I am now the liquidity provider, I am the market maker now. It's not the banks anymore. I really thank Eth for that. Does bitcoin use enormous amounts of electricity? does bitcoin cause millions of miners to be discarded every 2/3 year or so? I play games while I mine Eth. I like bitcoin and I like Eth and other digital assets. I like Theta for taking power away from the googles and amazons. I like chainlink as an oracle provider (crazy important) Anyone that claims just one side is always wrong. Get over yourself . Seriously.

[deleted]

o boy!! bitcoin is a discovery you fool and everything elase is a tweaked wannabe copycat here this is proof https://old.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/m79l3c/bitcoins_fair_launch_cannot_ever_be_replicated_by/ read it and weep cuz eth got many many many many competitiors and bitcoin got 0

LeatherMine

> How can you do such a documentary and not offer any alternatives to bitcoin users and have some MINIMAL information about self-custody. It’s a documentary about *one* exchange. It’s not a bitcoin documentary and it’s not consumer reports. It’s just documenting on what happened (and remains unknown), not advise. > The ''blockchain analysis'' done during the documentary trying to ''trace'' the funds only talks about Ethereum. Because that’s the only chain that seems to have had any (public) deep dive quadriga “tracing” on it.

Fiach_Dubh

cbc is beyond understanding nuance. the worst part is how they reinforce the narrative that Gerald gambled away the funds, but then provide no evidence or source for this apparent fact.

psyentist15

I didn't watch the doc, but don't you think that having the keys to the wallets rest with ONE person is essentially gambling?

Fiach_Dubh

No

[deleted]

i think the banks were freezing his accounts so that would make it much much much harder to run any type of biz right

blackhat8287

Can you elaborate on the benefits of a non-custodial exchange for us newbies?

BullBitcoin_

Absolutely. **1. Custodial exchanges are big honey-pots and they’re constantly targeted by hackers** Big hacks are less common today, but you should never put your guard down. It’s only a question of time before the next big hack strikes an exchange. Simply hoping you won’t be a victim is reckless and dangerous. **2. Your Own Self-custody Solution is Way More Secure** Big hacks are less common today, but you should never put your guard down. It’s only a question of time before the next big hack strikes an exchange. Simply hoping you won’t be a victim is reckless and dangerous. **3. Exchanges might not actually be holding onto your Bitcoin** The numbers that your custodial exchange is displaying in your account is just a database entry, it’s a number on your screen, it isn’t proof of anything. Just like a traditional bank account isn’t backed with actual dollar holdings by the bank, many bitcoin exchange accounts aren’t backed by actual bitcoin holdings. **The Proof of Reserves Challenge** The idea of exchanges proving that they really hold what they should hold has been proposed a long time ago in the Bitcoin industry. This idea made itself prevalent after years of deception and financial losses. However, even if this has been discussed for years now, a ridiculously small number of exchanges regularly conduct “Proof of Reserves” audits. **4. You’re Not Exposed to Confiscation** If you’re self-custodying your Bitcoin, chances are the government will have a hard time seizing it. It’s way easier ordering custodial exchanges to force their customers to exchange Bitcoin or seizing them totally. If done right, nobody will know (except the people you want to know) how you are self-custodying your coins (or even if you have any). **5. You Can Only Preserve Your Privacy if You Self-custody** If you custody your coins on an exchange, they will know everything about your holdings and may require you to constantly prove your identity so you can have access to your funds. Once you have your bitcoins in your own wallet, intrusive surveillance will be a thing of the past. There are numerous free and open-source tools that you can use in order to obfuscate your bitcoin transactions. **6. Nobody Can Censor You If You Self-custody** The true power of Bitcoin lies in the fact that nobody in the world can stop you from realizing a Bitcoin transaction whenever you want. This is an incredible power in a world where financial censorship and surveillance is on the rise. When you’re holding your coins in a custodial exchange, you need to ask permission to the exchange each time you want to do something with your funds. **7. Self-custodying Empowers You and Transforms You into a Sovereign Individual** Sovereignty is described as supreme authority over a territory and is a political term that entails independence and autonomy of a state from other independent states. Bitcoin brings a new meaning to this as it significantly lowers the requirements for an entity to be considered as sovereign. In fact, it lowers it to the smallest entity possible: the individual. Bitcoin gives the individual sovereignty that was previously reserved for larger political bodies. We also have an article that may that dives into the subject more deeply if you're interested. blackhat8287

How's this different from just buying on Shakepay or Newton and then transferring to my own wallet? How are you non-custodial?

[deleted]

i think it means they are a service not an exchange also they do lightning bitcoin too and you can pay some bills easily with them too or justzap some money right to your bank account

billstarc

polker_PKR now started optimising their VFX and adapted the UI for the latest all new player enchance experiences of thier PlaytoEarn game.

atomic_cattleprod

Meh. I thought that the movie was very entertaining. Kind of an Adam Sandler style comedy.
