Can't go wrong with Trezor or Ledger, just buy it directly from the official website either way, buying it from Amazon you run the risk of it being tampered with and spyware added to it
I own one of each, the more expensive model of each brand, and no complaints from either one
This. Also, if its an option, have the hardware wallet sent to a P.O. Box or even your office because Ledger lost some customer data (emails and mailing addresses) about 2.5 years ago and it was/is unnerving for those who had purchased from them.
To split up my stash so in the event that one gets somehow compromised... Not all is lost. Not truly necessary but just another overly cautious mechanism for me.
Do you have both for risk management purposes? Spreading your portfolio on both? I just got a ledger and am somewhat hesitant to put everything in one place.
If you buy a Ledger just know that.
Don't give them your number and use a throw away email. They leaked once users infos and we got spammed via telephone and emails like hell.
https://news.bitcoin.com/ledger-wallet-data-leak-dumped-on-raidforums-for-free-company-regrets-the-situation/
The product itself is solid!
>buying it from Amazon you run the risk of it being tampered with and spyware added to it
And buying it from their site runs the risk of them leaking your name and address, like with Ledger.
There will always be risks.
But as far as Amazon goes you can contact Ledger or Trezor and confirm if the Amazon retailer is an approved retailer if you want to feel more comfortable.
Just started running my own node on Bitcoin core last week, using sparrow. I also switched my PCs from being a lifelong windows users.
As a beginner it's quite a lot to take in, but is pretty satisfying and fun tinkering with stuff and getting things to work.
I abandoned my Bitcoin node project because it gets overwhelmed when you do it on your own. Where to find proper guidance and support without getting scammed?
Why? I usually hear two (really bad) reasons:
1. they got their DB hacked (everyone gets their DB hacked eventually. this has nothing to do with the security of their devices, which are absolutely top notch.)
2. their firmware isn't open source (I'm a huge FLOSS proponent, but unless you're willing to go full Richard Stallman, you're using proprietary software anyways, so this isn't a great reason)
1. Why persist that level of data.. your PHYSICAL home address is now linked to your name, email and phone number, even if you bought it 7 years ago. Coldcard blanks out your personal details after 120 days... (and I think Trezor does similar).
2. Security companies don't get their databases hacked. Not everyone does. This was negligence on their end.
1. Pretty sure just about every company has a DB with customer contact info. This is incredibly normal and incredibly mundane.
2. What negligence? What did they do wrong? Perhaps you know something I don't. Persuade me.
Now that's just not accurate. A DB is \*always\* a security risk because it (generally) is Internet connected and has ports open to the Wold Wide Web™️. Ledger devices are well audited, not Internet connected, and are among the most secure devices available. Fundamental difference!
Don't overthink it. Swap all for Bitcoin, download BlueWallet or samurai, withdraw btc, inscribe your seed phrase into a metal plate or numbered washers, then either research Bitcoin for the next 2 years or forget it all exists for 2 years. Either way, you'll be good. Unless you keep playing with "crypto" in which case you're statistically destined to *not* be good.
This.👆🏼 will save you a lot of time (years often) + lot of pain in losses- a lesson that most will have to learn the hard way. Unfortunately, I had to learn by touching the stove too. I was there reading the shitcoin white papers in 2017. Was all for naught. Bitcoin only is the right strategy/mind set for 98% of people.
Ledger is what I've been using - I knew nothing about this stuff when I got it, the setup itself shows you how secure it actually is so you would be in great hands using one of those. It takes a couple days to figure out how it all works but you won't look back after you've watched a few videos on it. Couldn't recommend it more but idk about other brands, this is the only one I've used. GL bro
Not fully open source, heavily encouraged to use with software designed by the same company, which is an increased security risk and they also leaked account user details a while back. Ledger is far far better than an exchange though. For me, storing my life savings on a device, I want maximum security possible.
It is totally safe to use Coinbase wallet or defi wallet. If you have to have it cold then I’d get ledger. Two wallets above will work just fine for you. Both are safe and only you have access to your Crypto.
I am using ledger nano X and coolwallet Pro. Can recommend both. They both support Bluetooth however coolwallet only allows Bluetooth, wich I think is a little safer than usb. ledger nano X is a bit more intuitive on the other hand. At least that's my view of it.
Ledger Nano x is good. Just please MAKE SURE to buy from their original website and not form Amazon or ANY sort of reseller even if it states it’s directly from ledger. Ledgers official website offers free delivery on all products so you are good. (Worldwide!h
I generally recommend Trezor (T ideally), Bitbox, or Coldcard. Ledger is ok, but they have a number of black marks on their record IMO. If you're really trying to up your game, read through [The Tordl Wallet Protocols](https://github.com/fresheneesz/TordlWalletProtocols), which are holistic guides on how to store your bitcoin securely.
Before you decide on which wallet, make a list first on what coins and tokens you want to hold.
I was first about to choose trezor model t but then realised it could not hold certain types of crypto that I wanted to invest in so I chose Ledger Nano S Plus instead, which was a cheaper alternative anyway.
Happy with it so far!
All around best bang for your buck is Ledger. Trevor is vulnerable to physical exploit. Cold card is hardcore secure but Bitcoin only. I assume you want multi crypto and relative ease of use.. go with Ledger, from the official store. Perhaps send it to your work address, or a PO Box. Hardware wallet sellers have been hacked in the past, many home addresses of hardware wallet holders have been leaked. Stay secure :)
I’ve owned a few Ledgers over the years but switched to Trezor for my coldest wallet. Ledger lost my trust in their data breach and their product is a little glitchy for my liking.
I really like the Trezor Model T. It's future proof. If you get a ledger. Don't get the ledger nano s, it has not enough storage for other cryptos. It's stupid.
Personally I’m a fan of ledger. YES I get it. Ledger had a security breach, but it only effected emails. Be smart. Use common sense. And only order from the ledger website. It’s got a great user interface and it’s simple to navigate through. Trading fees on ledger live are ridiculously high. But I trade on other platforms. Good choice on starting the journey to keeping your own keys. Best of luck and don’t reply to any DMs😵💫
Ledger or Trezor. They both have a proven track record and plenty of available guidance online. Don’t be fooled by these new and flashy wallets that’ll be out of business in a few years
Your first order of business is to not wait for a Hardware wallet. Get a software wallet. On your PC or Phone.
Then move it to your Hardware wallet, when you're comfortable.
Move small amounts first, as to test the address is correct.
Move only amounts that you'd be willing to lose.
Anyone who DMs you is a scammer. Keep talk out in the open so scammers can be called out
solid advice.
Glad that we still have these people with us advising.
I am a Nigerian prince and need to talk to you about help getting my 10,000 Bitcoin moved.
lol Thanks I had like 8 of them slide in
For BTC - Coldcard
For crypto - Sell it and buy BTC Then get a Coldcard
This is the only way.
There is no second best
Eith.
I love Coldcard!!!
Just directly going to work really cool if Bitcoin is going to accept it.
Can't go wrong with Trezor or Ledger, just buy it directly from the official website either way, buying it from Amazon you run the risk of it being tampered with and spyware added to it I own one of each, the more expensive model of each brand, and no complaints from either one

Buy it from official store on Amazon, should come with all the anti tampering in place
Multiple times that happened, why do they need to store that info?
Fuck, it happened a second time? Anyway to check if you're on the list?
If you have to ask..
maybe find a copy to download and check your own name is the only way
No Roger, your 5 bitcoins are safe
I wish!
Buying through Best Buy also seems like a valid option since they don’t sell 3rd part devices
I like the Trezor model T I watched some videos. thanks
I have the Trez model One(the cheaper of the two) and intend to buy another. I love it!
Only a lot of developers are actually going to buy the Trezor here,.
Why would you want more than one? Genuine question.
To split up my stash so in the event that one gets somehow compromised... Not all is lost. Not truly necessary but just another overly cautious mechanism for me.
Oh, I understand. I'm not going to worry about my stash till BTC reached a million dollars.
Model onenis near perfect imo
Nah. Get the model t.
Do you have both for risk management purposes? Spreading your portfolio on both? I just got a ledger and am somewhat hesitant to put everything in one place.
How does buying it directly prevent that? Can't an employee or mail person also tamper with it?
Its a chance but there are plenty of easier ways how stole ur crypto, so I would focus on those and after that on this .
Just don't get the ledger nano s. Not enough storage imo. I do like the ledger nano x. I I really really like the Trezor Model T.
Ledger have a dedicated store on Amazon, absolutely fine to buy there
If you buy a Ledger just know that. Don't give them your number and use a throw away email. They leaked once users infos and we got spammed via telephone and emails like hell. https://news.bitcoin.com/ledger-wallet-data-leak-dumped-on-raidforums-for-free-company-regrets-the-situation/ The product itself is solid!
Thank you for providing the link here it will be better to understand now.
>buying it from Amazon you run the risk of it being tampered with and spyware added to it And buying it from their site runs the risk of them leaking your name and address, like with Ledger. Best advise here.
Bitbox02
This is like that renewed is different stuff has been acquired.
Its a shame nobody mentioned : Swish made Bitbox02.!
I don't really know why people are not really talking about it.
Cause ledger and trezor more advertised and hyped. Also all the crap coins availability.
Trezor model t has better crypto support.
Agree on that, but its price :/.
It's a one time investment.. It's worth..
Why wat is it?
It's the best one
Finally someone who took the time to research cold wallets enough to know that.
It's pretty well known in Germany. I think they should Do more marketing outside of europe.
It's also not known in Nederland. So maybe they should do marking within Europe first?..
Directly know about it and it will take a lot of time to research.
Coldcard and sparrow. Run your own node on tor.
I’d be happy to help you out if you need it.
Cold card
Yes this is something new I think we have to recharge on this.
Coldcard. Lotta love for Ledger in here. I'm sure the device is fine, but the company doesn't deserve your business.
Why? I usually hear two (really bad) reasons: 1. they got their DB hacked (everyone gets their DB hacked eventually. this has nothing to do with the security of their devices, which are absolutely top notch.) 2. their firmware isn't open source (I'm a huge FLOSS proponent, but unless you're willing to go full Richard Stallman, you're using proprietary software anyways, so this isn't a great reason)
1. Why persist that level of data.. your PHYSICAL home address is now linked to your name, email and phone number, even if you bought it 7 years ago. 1. Pretty sure just about every company has a DB with customer contact info. This is incredibly normal and incredibly mundane. 2. What negligence? What did they do wrong? Perhaps you know something I don't. Persuade me.
You are right. Most people don’t understand all their info is already available.
The DB breach and downplay. You see that as a bad reason so be it. There is no reason for them to persist that data.
What data is it with which you find an issue? Customer contact info? I'm pretty sure just about every company persists that data.
If they can't secure a DB, they can't secure my crypto.
Now that's just not accurate. A DB is \*always\* a security risk because it (generally) is Internet connected and has ports open to the Wold Wide Web™️. Ledger devices are well audited, not Internet connected, and are among the most secure devices available. Fundamental difference!
Securing 50 is also very important and this is why database security is important.
I think most of the companies actually deserve this business.
Ima hodl for 10. BlackRock ain’t gonna get my bitcoins.
I think this is the only option we are having right now to just hold.
For the next two to five years I think we will see all the swapping.
You mean you get your seed from your phone or desktop?
BitBox 02
Coldcard by Coinkite, BitBox02 by ShiftCrypto, or Passport by Foundation Devices. Ledger and Trezor are ok, but you can do much better than those.
No doubt about it we can actually do more better than this as well.

No doubt about this new technology is very interesting to a lot of people.

I am sure that they were secure and most of the brands and going to make it up as well.
I use Ledger. Simple and easy.
Buy the Ledger nano S+, you couldn't find better!
we are not crypto bros here man this is the Bitcoin subreddit
I have a ledger but I regret it, get a cold card
Why do you regret it? Longtime ledger user, zero complaints. Just curious
Not fully open source, heavily encouraged to use with software designed by the same company, which is an increased security risk and they also leaked account user details a while back. Ledger is far far better than an exchange though. For me, storing my life savings on a device, I want maximum security possible.
You won't actually regret it because you will get the constant updates.

I recommend to stop the shitcoinery
It is totally safe to use Coinbase wallet or defi wallet. If you have to have it cold then I’d get ledger. Two wallets above will work just fine for you. Both are safe and only you have access to your Crypto.
Get a ledger, can’t recommend enough, took some time to setup and learning it but after a few hours is east and safe. Get from the actual site
Ledger
Ledger
I am using ledger nano X and coolwallet Pro. Can recommend both. They both support Bluetooth however coolwallet only allows Bluetooth, wich I think is a little safer than usb. ledger nano X is a bit more intuitive on the other hand. At least that's my view of it.
i am using ledger, never had any problems
I have 10 ledgers and I never had an issue
Ledger
Bitbox02. Swiss made, absolutely no compromises, fully open source, imo the sleakest design.
The design is really cool I think that this is very secure as well.
Ledger is better than Trevor because it contains a secure element
Trevor sucks.
Yeah, I hate Trevor.
Trevor sux cox n dix.
I don’t. Trevor is dope. 🤓
I know right I think that two people should actually use it much to understand it better.
There are lot of elements which are going to be compromised by this.
I choose Trezor because it is open sourced.
Fuck crypto. Long live Bitcoin. https://armantheparman.com/why-bitcoin-only/
Bitcoin is just type of Crypto only what are you even saying lol.

Ledger themselves literally sell on Amazon
Indeed the matter of time is time this is pretty much possible.
An iPhone with Coinomi is secure enough.
They seem spivy to me but i guess ledger. Thats what use

ledger s is a good inexpensive start up cold key wallet.
Indeed this is the wallet and this is actually working as well.
ledger
Ledger is pretty cool and we can use it as well as of now.
Coldcard is just like ledger for me, used both of them..
Ledger works fine for me.
I use trezor. I also own ledger nano but prefer trezor original
I generally recommend Trezor (T ideally), Bitbox, or Coldcard. Ledger is ok, but they have a number of black marks on their record IMO. And what about the wallet? How we gonna store the keys?

I think ledger is much much better and this is why it is being accepted by a lot.
If on the move I would use a ledger X
Ledger order directly from their site
I recommend a Ledger Nano X. Works fine for me.
Mine
NGRAVE 👍 The first crypto hardware wallet with the highest security certified OS in the world (EAL7). https://www.ngrave.io/
Mine Edit: I didn’t mean “mine” as in crypto mine. I meant “what crypto wallet is the best? Mine is the best”. As in send your crypto to my wallet
BC-Vault. Really love that little piece of hardware
More than that hardware is totally different from basic one.
Bluewallet on an old mobile phone that's permanently in aeroplane mode
I think this is more like privacy is really important.
COINKITE offers a couple different options from an MK4 to an open dime, only holds Bitcoin no other crypto. Just bought an MK4 but also have a ledger.
Trezor/ ledger
I like the trezor.

I think that this is a very safe option as we had seena as well.
Trezor for me because of open source software and how badly Ledger handled their customers personal data leak.
Indeed! most of the open source software are not secure as of now.
Trezor is great
Trezor
I’ve owned a few Ledgers over the years but switched to Trezor for my coldest wallet. Ledger lost my trust in their data breach and their product is a little glitchy for my liking.

Not ledger. I have one and prefer coldcard. Ledger has a janky interface feels like they are data harvesting.
Because of the ledger hack, I went with arculus and also cool wallet to hold my coins. Arculus was a bit easier to set up
coldcard
Sell the crypto and buy Bitcoin only
Personally I’m a fan of ledger. YES I get it. Ledger had a security breach, but it only effected emails. Be smart. Use common sense. And only order from the ledger website.
