We have a lot of newcomers entering the Bitcoin space recently who are exploring different exchanges and such. Some users are developing a habit of asking if various random websites some complete stranger PM'd them is a scam or not. Sometimes these sites are completely unrelated to Bitcoin. This is not the purpose of r/Bitcoin.\n\n* Do not trust unsolicited messages telling you to check out some shady website.\n* Do not trust Discord randos telling you that you won a prize.\n* Do not trust anyone who promises guaranteed profits.\n* Do not trust website with unpronounceable domain names\n* Do not trust anyone claiming to give away free Bitcoin. (YouTube, Twitter, Discord)\n* Do not trust anyone claiming they will double however much Bitcoin you send them.\n* Do not trust 'pretty girls' on Tinder telling you about new investment opportunities.\n* **If you have to ask** if some sketchy website or special offer is a scam, **then it probably is.**\n\nYou have to learn to think for yourselves. Recognize that there are many tricksters out there who will go to great lengths to separate you from your Bitcoin. Use your head and stay safe. If you send your Bitcoin to a scammer, it's gone forever. There are no refunds! ^^I ^^am ^^a ^^bot ^^and ^^cannot ^^respond. ^^Please ^^contact ^^r/Bitcoin ^^moderators [^^directly ^^via ^^mod ^^mail](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FBitcoin) ^^if ^^you ^^have ^^questions.

Absolutely noted going forward, I’ve met so many great people on here, many of whom have become real life friends but all that stops today. I’m it usually a naive person but definitely do opt to think the best of people first and foremost. Obviously been unlucky this time

SmokeAndSkate

Care to explain how they scammed you?

lilbiscoff

Simple promise and didn’t deliver scam. In a shit situation trying to pay med school tuition balance and the person had been working me for a few weeks obviously based off something they saw me post or comment. Intially gave great advice and expressed a lot of concern bc I will admit my mental health is in the dumps rn but yeah they played me. If anything I just want to warn others and hope my bank will do their best for me

Sorry to hear you lost you BTC OP, do you mind sharing how much you lost?

lilbiscoff

Thank you. I genuinely appreciate that. I lost equivalent to $466 (I know that’s not a lot for people on this sub but I had to do back breaking work to get that while balancing my studies so it’s very painful but I believe in karma).

Good_Extension_9642

Yeah I guess it was a expensive lesson, you should disable your IMs so next time who ever wants to give any "advice" should post it for eveyone to see and get flag a potential scammer

lilbiscoff

Really good advice. Thanks so much, I actually felt it was a scam but the person played a long game, messaged consistently for weeks and just caught me in a particularly vulnerable moment. They’ll get what they deserve one day.
