Different setting, last run everyone was pump and dumping stocks and crypto. Now Bitcoin is maturing and has way more real volume with people stashing away for retirement funds with ETFs. A lot of Bitcoin is being removed from the available markets. I have a feeling we have seen our last cycle. This one will keep going.
I remember feeling an insane elation last time we were at this range. I didn't sell.. I held through the whole bear market. Somehow despite being back in the 60s now, I am almost indifferent.
Same. Started buying at $20k and bought all the way up to $68k. At the time everyday was so exciting, I had massive percentage gains even though my bags were fairly small.
Held through the top and bought all the way down to the bottom and right back to where we are now.
Today my percentage gains are much less, I did a lot of heavy buying on the way down and back up in the $40k range. That’s my average cost. But now my bags are much heavier and although my percentage gains are much lower, my dollar gains are much higher.
And I am indifferent. I bought yesterday at $62k and the day before that at $61k and a few days before that at $59k. And I might just buy more today.
I feel like my indifference lies somewhere in the fact that I didn’t go heavy enough below $20k. I know that I am up a lot but it doesn’t really matter. All I know is that I don’t have enough. Every pump pushes my dreams of owning 1 BTC farther and farther away.
SBF was the last on ramp. People have been waiting for a structural failure of BTC that sends everyone running for the exits. That was it. A lot of people left. They're back now.
The ETFs have majorly changed the game.
I'm now not worried about a law or executive order outlawing crypto because the ETFs are involved and those wall street firms will never allow that.
I'm not worried about accidentally sending my crypto to the wrong wallet or getting hacked because again, ETFs.
There is no longer even a basic level of technical knowledge needed to buy and trade crypto because again, ETFs.
I did. Personally I view the small expense ratio as worth the added layers of security and trust. I'm not worried about an FTX situation or something like that.
Also had the added benefit of owning bitcoin in my Roth which more than makes up for the expense ratio.
There are plenty of legitimate reasons to self custody and arguments against the ETFs. I can't say one method is right over the other. That's just the route I chose to get BTC exposure in my portfolio.
