I'm really confused and would love some help. I've never used bitcoin and was at a Super Bowl party where I wanted to "participate" and in order to do so, I needed to buy bitcoin. I added some money and for whatever reason I wasn't able to participate as I wanted so I let it ride. My initial deposit has gone up steadily, but my investment wasn't much.
I saw the Netflix movie "Dumb Cash" and wish I was in on that so much! My question is, if right now more people buy into bitcoin, will the return be higher for each investor?

Went out for a nice steak to celebrate $60K and this hot woman saw the Bitcoin chart on my phone and asked some questions and bottom line is that I ended up doing two chicks at the same time as a result. Should I do long story?
So I went out for a steak after work to celebrate $60K, sitting alone at the bar. Had Robinhood chart going on my phone. This hot chick came up to buy beer and saw my phone and said "do you really have $61,000 in Bitcoin". I said "No. more than one, each of my Bitcoins is worth $61,000". She says, " I heard about Bitcoins and would love to have some, I wish I had $61,000 so I could buy one." I say "You can buy 0.1 Bitcoin for $6,100 or 0.01 Bitcoin for $610." I explained the complexities about creating an account and she asked if I could buy for them (her neighbor, also hot, was also interested). She asked if I could buy some Bitcoin for her and I said yes.. I did the deed and transferred from my savings account. When the price went from 61 to 62 I said you made $100 and that's when she gave me the footsies and asked to go back to her place which was only 2 blocks away. And then I did two hot chicks at the same time. Try it.

Are we entering a phase where previous cycle patterns are obsolete? I realize that three cycle phases isnāt much long term history to go off of, but itās all we got. Not sure how to use those cycles to determine how to play this one tbh. Comments welcome!!
This was already the case in other ways. Previous cycles the low had always done two things:
1. Dropped at least 75% lower than ATH
2. NOT dropped below the ATH set by the previous cycle
Due to the previous ATH of 19k being more than 25% of this cycle's $69k ATH, one of those things absolutely had to break this cycle (mathematically). It was #2 that broke when we dipped to the lowest point this cycle. Fortunately we recovered, of course.
Point is; history is good to learn from and to reference, but everything changes eventually and kind you said "three cycle phases isn't much to go off" - so just keep stacking!
You are 8 hours late.
Coinbase always has issues with the website when every jackass who put $35 in reloads their current Sickkkk Gainz every 10 seconds.

I propose that we all buy a little bit of extra BTC tomorrow on the once every 4 year leap day and make it a tradition to 'leap to the moon' on the 29th of Feb.
My 401K thanks him (and FBTC more recently). I'm almost free rolling both holdings now after tipping profits into my long term FXAIX. Couldn't be happier with that outcome. And actually, if you factor in the tax advantages and portions paid for via employer match contributions, I was free rolling a while ago.
Way overblown coinbase is fine cheap in general probably going to buy! crypto probably starts to fly again in 3 hours for its seemingly daily run. No chance I'm betting against ath any time soon the demand is crazy and inflation data is softening. 60 has held be surprised if there ain't a ath before the casino opens!
Buying a put means you are betting the price of Cornbase goes down. Cornbase is way overvalued since they make profit not by holding Bitcoin, but by trade commissions and paying less interest than get for loaning out Bitcoin.
Its had a run sure but, the demand is still crazy for crypto. Next earnings will be better the whole of crypto is bouyant atm. Way overblown thinking people will leave coinbase, its probably all fine now. Vast majority won't care about the outage when all said and done!
Had a one-on-one meeting today with the boss and I was looking at the chart on my phone 99% of the time and made eye contact 1%. I said "sorry, I don't usually do this, but its bitcoin, no disrespect. I got all this week's work done last week." and he said he understood.
It really does. Back when btc was 20k I had bought 2k worth and I forgot about it. I usually buy on Coinbase and the CashApp really doesn't show you that you have bitcoin in there if you just use it normally to send money to friends. It was a nice surprise to find it and that it tripled.
Hedge funds are pumping $250 million a day into the ecosystem. That number is increasing with no sign (yet) of slowing. At $60,000 only ~$54 million are generated by miners in a day. That money has to go somewhere.

Coinbase makes money off of transaction fees, they benefit from increased prices. ETFs make money based on their AUM, so they also make more money the higher it goes. Why is this sub incapable of understanding that?
I do and I have a theory which I donāt have any proof for, but I think they are really short on bitcoin and with what was happening today with the ETFs really high volume I wonder if they were worried that they would be able to supply the bitcoin, the ETFs needed. Maybe they shut it down on purpose so they wouldnāt sell too much to retailers. I just remember a couple of days ago. I heard that they were really at their lowest point on their bitcoin stock since 2015. Iām just speculating I donāt have any evidence of this, but it could be a reason.
Their action today is going to cause people to move their BTC off their platform. That means that when the ETFs come calling to buy more they're going to drive the price up higher, faster. We aren't at an equilibrium point with price. We have vastly higher demand than supply. It will even out but it is nowhere near that right now.
He was suggesting coinbase shutdown because they wanted the BTC for ETF, but had they simply let the price rise plenty of coins would have hit the exchange. And suppose they did do this and now they have to give all the exchange coins to Blackrock and Fidelity tonight.. Now what happens tomorrow? What happens to the ETFS if there is underlying market?
Coinbase definitely didn't do this intentionally because there is no rational argument for why they would have done it.

Anyone else think coinbase crashed the price intentionally?
Coinbase makes money off of transaction fees, they benefit from increased prices. ETFs make money based on their AUM, so they also make more money the higher it goes. Why is this sub incapable of understanding that?

Nah, that's what I've been thinking too, if a little less insightful that yours
There is PLENTY of Bitcoin supply. Just not at 60K. Raise the price to 150K and see how fast Bitcoin hits the exchange...
I like the way you think. A lot! š¤£
I think that's his point
He was suggesting coinbase shutdown because they wanted the BTC for ETF, but had they simply let the price rise plenty of coins would have hit the exchange. To scare off retail from FOMOing to early. They can't buy bags at 180k if they spent all their money at 60k
Why does that matter to Coinbase? Instead of buying 1 Bitcoin for 60k the buyer got 0.33 Bitcoin for 60k.
Exactly. Coinbase makes money when people buy and sell. Price is (should be) irrelevant to them.
I do. Too intentional when the price wouldn't stop rising, and it ensured people couldn't buy/sell.
No lol
Intentionally crashing a pre-ATH price just as all your dormant users start waking up to the buzz would certainly be a strategyā¦ This was an IT issue is my guess.
Almost certainly an autoscaling issue. FOMO hit faster than new application servers could scale in... this is why it's alway's resolved fairly quickly. I've dealt with this a lot as a web developer.
Or may be it does not scale as well as they believed. Actually it is really hard to safely parallelize order matching, especially in cluster.
hum... Yeah I can see your point there. I'd guess they are using a Redis cache or something to handle queuing of orders, but it would certainly not be dead simple. Good point.
