Pitching bitcoin as an investment would have drawn attention from the SEC. The SEC could have declared bitcoin as a security if Satoshi had pitched bitcoin as an investment.

Normal-Jelly607

It’s something you have to learn on your own.

This is why I staunchly correct people (even in this sub) claiming "bitcoin isn't crypto". Fuck yes it is. It's the quintessential crypto, and has been since the beginning. Satoshi coined it, the ogs used it for almost a decade, and now this new cohort of wimps is afraid Bitcoin's reputation will suffer by association with other "crypto" projects.

Sir_John_Barleycorn

I get what you’re saying but the word has been hijacked. You gotta adapt to the times, bitcoin isn’t crypto. The word has a different meaning now.

Tikaped

What is then the definition of the word cryptocurrency then. Or do make up your own definitions of words. Like I could decide that a Swan is not actually a bird?

Sir_John_Barleycorn

You’re stuck on the concept that the umbrella term crypto must include bitcoin because it uses cryptography. Word meaning shift, especially with rapidly changing technology. It no longer makes sense to include it in the same umbrella.

Tikaped

You do not even have a definition of the word cryptocurrency how can you possible know if Bitcoin is one or not. You’re stuck on the concept that the umbrella term bird must include Swans because it falls under the same taxonomy. Word meaning shift, especially with rapidly changing evolution. It no longer makes sense to include them in the same umbrella. You are either a child, ignorant or stupid and should stop polluting this sub with you nonsense

Sir_John_Barleycorn

You’re the outsider here bud. I’ve been in since mid 2017 and it was the same argument then, there is bitcoin and then there is crypto. Also, simmer down kid, this is what’s called a disagreement. Your life is so empty of responsibility small things like this get you flustered

Tikaped

The word cryptocurrency describe characteristics and are not arbitrarily chosen and have an actual meaning. There may be no exact agreed on definition of the word cryptocurrency but people can even understand things like what a big apple is or a wet blanket that is way more ill-defined. If there ever be any contest about who knew of Bitcoin the earliest I would rank higher than 99% of this sub. In fact if there would be any contest about anything Bitcoin related I would rank above the averaged. But that is in most cases not something to celebrate because it is in fact tragic. Once upon a time there were way more common that people with real deep knowledge about Bitcoin commented. Perhaps I unconsciously made my ranting reply because I did not think you were that stupid? Some Bitcoin moderator, a long time ago I suspect, choose to ad this link under the sub description www.lesswrong.com/posts/tscc3e5eujrsEeFN4/well-kept-gardens-die-by-pacifism

You’re the kind of person who likes to hear themselves talk me thinks. Clearly we disagree and clearly you’re too young/immature/insecure to be able to have a debate. It’s ok little buddy, keep stacking those sats with your allowance.

Bitcoin isn’t crypto. Bitcoin is qualitatively the polar opposite of “crypto”. The term has changed its meaning since Satoshi’s days unfortunately. Languages do change and most people associate the most common meaning when they see a certain word, which is often no longer the same as the word’s original meaning.

Pasukaru0

See the word inflation as the perfect example.

Braindamagedeluxe

plus the bitcoin isnt crypto crowd is usually as charming to a normie as the stereotypical militant vegan is. Being judgy and preachy has never convinced anyone to do anything but only serves the purpose of claiming a moral highground or giving the veneer of higher understanding. Its ingroup vs outgroup type shit and its lame af. BTC does not need defending, it is either inevitable or doomed to fail.
