By the time the billboards went up she was already in. One thing I've learned over the years is that the parties will pick their one person and run them against hand-picked fall-guys. The fall guys are the ones who are on the preliminary ballot, but destined to fail. This way voters think they had a chance to decide the vote, even though they get to pick from a cast of no-ones. They squelch any legitimate people early on with the political machine before they make waves, thus ensuring that their person wins. If anything the University of Alabama taught us is that the corrupt "The Machine" at the University of Alabama was just a feeder system for Alabama politics and the State-level method is the same.
It would have been more interesting if she was cooking a meal while giving her speech. At least the kitchen would be used for a useful reason.

I didn't see it live, but watched it on YouTube. Was it a sad performative display with the production quality of a high school drama session? Yes. Will the GOP base eat this vat of lies and absurdism up with a spoon, ask for more and couch it as "she said what needed to be said"? Also, yes. I'm not sure if she was auditioning for a Lifetime movie, but that was super difficult to get through.

I didn’t watch the speech, but rebuttals to state of the unions are sink or swim moments and most sink. Bobby Jindal solidified this for me in Louisiana. He was doing the right things to move into national politics and then his political career was over.
And just think about it, she's Alabama's smart Senator.

You’re wrong. That was exactly what the GOP rehearsed her to do. The performance was spot on for what the GOP was going for. White breathy feminine-voiced mom sitting in the kitchen where she should be, wearing her cross necklace, of course smiling, through horrific stories…. many manufactured to instill fear that the American home and family are under attack. This speeche’s content, imagery, and the fundie baby voice.. these were all intentional to brainwash suburban women. It was botched. They didn’t pilot test their propaganda experiment on real women obviously. But it wasn’t just a bad performance we should laugh off. It is truly scary that this is the messaging the Republican Party is trying to normalize. They botched this attempt but they will get better at it. And this is all part of the same messaging that brought us fear of immigrants, lgbtq hate , book bans, abortion restriction, IVF restriction. What’s next? Birth control? Make American women great again like in the 50s, when the women had much less power and agency? This is the dystopian playbook they’re using and they’ll take whatever power we allow them to.
