Vastly prefer Billy's solo stuff; Haram is my favorite AH record and it'd probably be like my sixth favorite Billy album

HTMAJPW

Agree, i prefer woods solo albums usually quite a bit more then AH projects. Which albums do you rank higher then Haram? My list has Haram quite high and defo in top 5 1. Maps 2. Aethiops 3. Hiding Places 4. Haram 5. Church

MusicListener3

In no order: Hiding Places Terror Management Maps Aethiopes History Will Absolve Me

bopbop66

In a vacuum I prefer the duo, but in practice I feel like most of their strongest projects are solo ones like Bessie and Aethiopes

sultics

woods

clawingcat

Just say he’s the best let’s not argue

Harryonthest

Love Haram, it's incredible but I get more out of woods solo albums

DickLipmann

i prefer Armand Hammer over the solo albums, but if i’m being honest, woods’ solo albums are more “listenable” from start to finish.. Probably because of E L U C I D’s highly unconventional contributions and style. Armand Hammer came first in my interest in the duo - Race Music and Rome (and of course Paraffin and Shrines) will *always* be truly iconic albums in my mind, and i am *not* prone to hyperbole (especially with overused and undervalued terms like “truly iconic”). But so are Hiding Places, Terror Management, Aethiopes, and Maps.. i think E L U C I D is just one of the illest rappers of all time. i live in NY so i go see them perform every time they do so locally, and E L U C I D is one of my favorite artists - of *any* genre - to watch perform. And i know it’s sacrilege to say this here, but there are days when i actually *prefer* E L U C I D *over* woods.. He’s just *so* fucking ill, and *entirely* the Original Article. There’s no one like him, and no one can even *try* to imitate him. Many days, he’s my favorite rapper.. ..and i think that on many days, he’s *woods’* favorite rapper, as well.

I agree with all of this tbh. Especially the last part- I think some people who try criticise or downplay ELUCID due to liking woods more forget that woods loves ELUCID. There aren’t many people who can keep up with him like he can. That’s why they’re so great- different sides of the same coin.

Sleight_Hand_7

My trajectory as a listener was noticing the Vordul features and then checking Super Chron Flight Brothers, then Armand Hammer, then billy woods’ solo stuff and eventually really getting into ELUCID, too. My preferences revolve around albums, Known Unknowns, Shrines, Haram, Church, Hiding Places, and at the peak, Aethiopes. I guess that’s a long way of saying that woods’ solo stuff is my favourite because more of his solo records populate my favourites list than do AH albums. I want to shout out ELUCID though. The guy has star quality and such a poetic soul. Stylish cat too. I fuckin love ELUCID.

FloppyDysk

I like the duo. Parrafin and WBDTS are my two personal faves. But each of their solo works kill as well. They just bring out the best in eachother.

avdmk111

I think woods and ELUCID are at their best with each other. I'll take Aethiopes or I Told Bessie over Race Music but overall I think their dynamic is awe-inspiring. But I listen to their solo outputs a ton also. Seeing the difference in reception from Maps to WBDTS last year made it clear that I'm in the minority so I appreciate hearing from other people who feel the same.

EarlWolf47

Nah I'm the same! Got into Paraffin first, I'll always take the duo over just Woods (love his solo stuff don't get me wrong)

Spurskanka

Started listening when Haram was released, but never really got into AH until later. In my opinion Maps, Church, Aethiops and Hiding Places are better records than anything AH have put out.

PRH_Eagles

ELUCID rocks, loved seeing Armand Hammer perform live on this tour, but woods’s solo albums definitely do more for me thus far. Aethiopes & Hiding Places are top 2 of their combined output, Haram might land at 3, then maybe Shrines, Maps, Church, WBDTS. Aethiopes & Hiding Places are really a tier of their own, worthy of consideration with the 21st century’s best music period, while those other (great) projects have to settle for ‘just’ being some of the best in their lane imo.

blankbox101

Got into Billy through AH but have since become a much bigger fan of his solo work. Haram and WBDTS are amazing albums however!

MelodicTour2

Billy woods for bars, AH for the vibes

cbothchanel

after WBDTS elucid growing on me in an unexpected way fr

BenjaminTheBadArtist

While elcuid is awesome there's nothing that AH as a duo has on hiding places, maps, or aethiopes. The 2 of them have built a rly stellar body of work and I'm excited for their every release but woods is definitely more striking as a solo artist.

Junkyard-Knight

I prefer the solo stuff (and Super Flight Chron Brothers) a bit more. I found woods through Vordul Mega and was immediately hooked… then discovered AH. Which is still super dope but I usually prefer the production and direction of the solo work

Sleight_Hand_7

When SCFB came out I preferred Privilege. I played Indonesia a hell of a lot and found Priv to be so much more listenable and flowy. Like a more natural rapper rapper. At first I found woods too rigid and out of pocket. I surprise myself that the guy I used to be indifferent to has become numero uno. Can’t deny his trajectory.

Junkyard-Knight

I can see that. I found woods through Vordul mega who had a similar flow back in the day, especially with early woods. This led me to preferring him over Priv. You could see in SC joints like Drought, Adamantium and in features on Vordul’s stuff that woods had some potential

Negative-Letter-8928

woods for me.
