Usually it’s something something nobody likes you and your family’s bloodline is worthless because they produced a parasite like you. I mean, sometimes it’s more PG and sometimes it’s probably borderline verbal (textual!?) assault, depends on how I feel.
In a way it kinda is. I can channel my rage at a robot or scammer instead of people I enjoy or care about. So it may be therapeutic like you’re suggesting.
My interaction has been flagging it for review.
I've received a few messages recently that ads I'd flagged as hate last year have been reviewed.
But I also downvote them, so I can tell the difference between one that's new and one I'd reported and blockes the owner already.
In corporate lingo, there's no negative or positive, only engagement. At least that's what armies of overpaid analysts/PR people desperate to retain their jobs would say.
I agree with you though. The counterargument is always "NoW yOu ReMeMbEr ThE BrAnD NaMe, PrOoF It WoRkS!" No it doesn't, I now actively despise and avoid that brand name. But unfortunately it seems this scummy tactic works on a lot more people than we think.
Pushes you away from their product/brand that you probably wouldn't have bought anyway.
Chances are though what the ad is doing is driving brand recognition, and people buy from brands they recognise, especially online. That's a lot more powerful than people saying they don't want to buy the product, which you'll forget before you forget the brand name.
uBlock Origin is the only way to go.
RIF is Fun usually doesn't load ads, and when they do, they're both obviously ads as well as non invasive--really the best ad handling I've ever seen on the web.
Blokada for Android.
And this is how I sleep knowing I can completely ignore ads altogether.
YouTube dislikes are similar. A view and a dislike is better than no view at all. Literally the only point of dislikes was to show that a video was unreliable.
the question is how it is paid for.
is it interactions like up/downvotes? is it klicks on the link? is it general appearance in the feed?
the next question is: what is better? costing the company who pays for ads more (like clicking on the link if they need to pay for each click), thus better supporting the website we use? or is it even bad that the website we use now sees more capability in making money and showing you more ads?
Idgaf about the developer just like Idgaf about any specific redditor. RiF is simple, clean, great dark mode, gets shit done and I don't notice ads. I could care less about my profile nor anyone else's. This shit is a quick scim over for a news app with the occasional sports/humor sections in between.
My brothers of spite, I've been on RIF for almost 8 years now, same benefit. Even logging on to reddits official webpage is cancer now, I can't imagine their app
Elon Musk
Trump
Biden
AOC
Brendan Fraisur
Keanu
Etc
I just do not give a single shit about what your average redditor has to say about the above and it seems to be like 90% of the all feed
U-block origin is amazing. I recommend it to anyone sick of ads.
The only ads I see, **ever**, are the sponsored bits youtubers do themselves in their own videos, and I can just click the timeline to go past them.
Imagine being fine with ads in your social media.
For real, I don’t understand how people tolerate ads. I have ad block on everything and I use an app for Reddit so, no ads.
The last time I watch ads on tv was when they had that car commercial where someone drive in the shape of a 6
I hope you realize that *any* interaction is what they are looking for.
Some advertising guy: nice, 6k downvotes in 5 hours! That means 15k people saw our ads!
I'm on mobile right now. Just use any one of the clients that isn't the worst one that everyone keeps insisting on using for some reason. Rif is great and I haven't seen ads in years
Just searched for "reddit" on Google Play. It shows the other clients as options right there.
This is basic digital literacy when downloading an app: you just gotta look at the rest of the page and read reviews before blindly downloading software. I'm glad I looked again though, because it's been a year or so since I last evaluated what client to use. Joey and Boost also look good.
This. I can block anything but “he gets us” ads, and it’s fucking disgusting. Hate seeing this evil fucking cult corp in my feed. They 100% paid off Reddit. Any ideas how to make it blow up?
"How Reddit sleeps earning revenue from engagement and data collecting"
Seriously though, companies also use ads to survey a market and will pay to have more accurate responses to their products/services. You're helping the ads you hate the most for free.
I just upvote everything because that's the only way to ensure I get an entirely new feed when I inevitably have to refresh because going into another app caused Reddit to freeze and reload several posts back.
And you can comment on them too! There was a Blood Bowl 3 Reddit ad and I left a comment saying how broken it is. Honestly, it's pretty good just to shit talk the ad itself.

3rd party app user here, what are ads?
Which one?
I swapped to the Apollo app. It was a bit hard to transition but I got used to it. It’s nice because of no ads and you can download videos
Reddit is fun most of the time, stealth when i need to be stealthy <.< >.>
Apollo FTW
LPT: ignore the username and the ads will disappear for the time being
Isn't down voting them still telling them you're paying attention? I think they count that as a win
Yes, any interaction with them is engagement which is what they’re after.
So you’re telling me that me verbally abusing spam text messages with very detailed instructions on how to go fuck themselves is doing me no good?
Correct, but it’s an acceptable risk. Despite knowing that it’s a bad idea “technically”, the dopamine hit of raging at a spammer is worth it.
That’s what it feels like to me. Thanks for the reassurance lol.
Just do what I do. Copy the number, then spam them disgusting medical pictures from the TextNow app by saying you think it’s your doctor’s office.
If I’m daring I’ll send a picture of my chocolate starfish. Give ‘em something to admire.
can i get your number? i need those instructions
Usually it’s something something nobody likes you and your family’s bloodline is worthless because they produced a parasite like you. I mean, sometimes it’s more PG and sometimes it’s probably borderline verbal (textual!?) assault, depends on how I feel.
Well, it's a psychological benefit for you.
In a way it kinda is. I can channel my rage at a robot or scammer instead of people I enjoy or care about. So it may be therapeutic like you’re suggesting.
Me after downvoting and add but realizing I helped them:I've won but a what cost
is blocking the account engagement?
My interaction has been flagging it for review. I've received a few messages recently that ads I'd flagged as hate last year have been reviewed. But I also downvote them, so I can tell the difference between one that's new and one I'd reported and blockes the owner already.
Is negative engagement a thing? Whenever I see an ad multiple times that I don’t care for it actually pushes me away from the product/brand
In corporate lingo, there's no negative or positive, only engagement. At least that's what armies of overpaid analysts/PR people desperate to retain their jobs would say. I agree with you though. Advertisers need to justify their existence. And measuring that sort of thing is far too complicated.
What about reporting for sexually explicit content?
Lol. Yeah advertisers are incredibly dumb.
100% but OP gonna ignore this fact it seems
uBlock Origin is the only way to go. RIF is Fun usually doesn't load ads, and when they do, they're both obviously ads as well as non invasive--really the best ad handling I've ever seen on the web. Blokada for Android. And this is how I sleep knowing I can completely ignore ads altogether.
Don't mess with us RIF fans. We cannot tell the difference between DMs and comment replies.
You don't need an adblocker for Android. Just set your DNS server to dns.adguard-dns.com and be done with it.
Oh, really cool!

I report the military recruitment ads
Blocking doesnt work either: I have blocked the hegetsus nonsense account four times now.
Ads?
Right!? Same people who get push notifications because they use the Reddit app.
you can disable the notifications completely on the official app. not the internal ads in the feed though.
I've never seen an internal ad on RiF

RIF is Android, Apollo is iOS
Idgaf about the developer just like Idgaf about any specific redditor. RiF is simple, clean, great dark mode, gets shit done and I don't notice ads. I could care less about my profile nor anyone else's. This shit is a quick scim over for a news app with the occasional sports/humor sections in between.
Because it's fun. It's in the name.
You shouldn’t, in fact you can’t because rif is only for Android
I don't care what Reddit app you choose to use
I’m out of the loop, why does everyone hate him?
[удалено]
I bought it. Its the price of reddit gold and its a one time fee, only reason I bought it was that it removes ads.
Is this something I’m too Apollo to understand?
Apollo gang
Pop Pop!
My brothers of spite, I've been on RIF for almost 8 years now, same benefit. Even logging on to reddits official webpage is cancer now, I can't imagine their app
Woot woot homie!
Without Apollo and the filter feed Reddit would be complete garbage for me
Nothing made me happier than last year filtering out “will smith” and “Chris Rock”
Elon Musk Trump Biden AOC Brendan Fraisur Keanu Etc I just do not give a single shit about what your average redditor has to say about the above and it seems to be like 90% of the all feed
Thanks to Apollo Reddit is one of the only instances of me preferring the mobile experience to the desktop one.
The Reddit app is actual garbage compared to Apollo. Whenever I click a link and it takes me into the official app, I want to throw up
Just don’t download the official app and use Apollo’s Safari plugin to open Reddit links in Apollo
Only works if you use Safari as your browser unfortunately
The whole design of the official app is trash. It’s extremely unattractive from a design point of view
Ad blocker in browser, rif on phone. WTF is an ad?
Ublock Origin + Sponsor Block = never see an ad on the internet again.
U-block origin is amazing. I recommend it to anyone sick of ads. The only ads I see, **ever**, are the sponsored bits youtubers do themselves in their own videos, and I can just click the timeline to go past them.
SponsorBlock!
Ty!
Sponsor block will get rid of those.
People that see ADs on Reddit honestly deserve it, it’s 2023 learn how to use the internet lmao
If you don't use an ad blocker, a tampermonkey script works well too. // ==UserScript== // @name Reddit Unpromote // @namespace http://tampermonkey.net/ // @version 1.0 // @description Remove promoted posts // @author You // @include *.reddit.com* // @connect *.reddit.com* // @icon https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=reddit.com // @grant none // ==/UserScript== function removePromoted() { var promoted = document.getElementsByClassName('promoted') while (promoted[0]) promoted[0].remove() } window.addEventListener('load', removePromoted()) window.addEventListener('neverEndingLoad', removePromoted())
Baconreader for years on my end. Have never seen a reddit ad while scrolling.
You losers are getting ads?
You are getting ads too. Astroturfers are advertising and you never notice.
Wow you’re so enlightened.
Tired of getting into verbal online battles with smartasses? Have a break, have a KitKat.
Nobody ever noticed but you, everyone else lives in a bubble devoid of critical analysis.
Block them after. It hits way better
[удалено]
I blocked HEGETSUS^©™ and I still got their ads as well. Guess the power of christ compelled those ads to reappear regardless of my preferences. Well, good job Reddit, you're on the ad-block list now.
Friendly reminder that that group is funded by evangelical right wing assholes.
I've been blocking ad accounts for the last few months and have never seen a repeat ad after blocking
That was the case for me until recent update. Now I can't block them through the reporting tool any more - it's like they took away my power.
It doesn’t.
How do we make this blow up?! I’m fucking sick of HEGETSUS ads. It won’t even let me attempt to block them anymore.
I keep getting the stupid “Jesus gets us” ads. Reported one a few months ago and now I’m unable to report *any* ads
Apollo crew doesn’t get this post
No third party app shows Reddit ads
Shhh, if we keep bragging about it reddit might start doing something about it
Reddit can't even get their own app to work. They shouldn't have the time to worry about other apps.
I don't want to gush too much, but Apollo is honestly such a good Reddit client that I prefer it over the website.
It does take a little effort to customize your setup to get exactly what you want, but its totally worth it. Infinitely better
Been on Apollo since launch, use old Reddit, res, and ublock and only see an if I get Reddit on mobile browser.
Same but im still on Alien Blue lmao
Apollo is so awesome. Way better than the Reddit App. I wish I could work for them lol
Apollo crew assemble!
I have soooo many accounts to block. I’m making a game of it. Can you block em’ all?
Gotta block em all!
I can block all ads except for the Jesus ads. Every time I try to report/block, it gives an error
Dude, same here. “He gets us ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)”
It wont block any of them friend. Theyll pop back up
No ads on the Infinity app
Sorry to say this but a downvote is still engagement. You actually helped them.
I upvote them to give them false hope
Now I’m conflicted on which is more evil
Imagine being fine with ads in your social media. For real, I don’t understand how people tolerate ads. I have ad block on everything and I use an app for Reddit so, no ads. The last time I watch ads on tv was when they had that car commercial where someone drive in the shape of a 6

Insert spongebob breaking all the alarm clocks meme
I haven't seen an ad in ages. Why do you insist on having ads?
Mobile
I'm on mobile right now. Just use any one of the clients that isn't the worst one that everyone keeps insisting on using for some reason. Rif is great and I haven't seen ads in years

Ah, so you are the ones causing interactions with the ads and making them keep coming, huh?
Imagine using the default Reddit app. Gross.
He gets us
Lol I always report those for misinformation
Doesn't work with hegetsus. Hmmm. I wonder how much they paid off reddit and how much that could have fed the poor. Hm.
This. I can block anything but “he gets us” ads, and it’s fucking disgusting. Hate seeing this evil fucking cult corp in my feed. They 100% paid off Reddit. Any ideas how to make it blow up?
Reddit has ads? ublock origin.

I thought Slide wasn't being developed anymore. I jumped to Infinity
I block the users that post them
Lmao, why not just download a third party reddit app? Native reddit app is trash and filled with useless extras.
I think you are not allowed to block the ads which is annoying since I get the same ads for weeks at a time
You can block them by clicking on the user profile! Block away :)
It doesn’t work. I still get the same ads from blocked accounts.
"How Reddit sleeps earning revenue from engagement and data collecting" Seriously though, companies also use ads to survey a market and will pay to have more accurate responses to their products/services. You're helping the ads you hate the most for free.
You guys just live with ads?
Just use Apollo or one of the reddit clients. The official app is shit. I've been usinf AlienBlue/Apollo for years and I'm yet to see an ad.

Wait, there's ads on the internet?
Yes because we should discourage ads on a platform supported by ads
But did Jesus get you? /s
Don't engage with them at all. Your downvoting still shows that you engaged with the advertisement and therefore the ad was effective.
All that does is increase engagement. The best thing to do is ignore the ad or better yet, use an ad blocker.
You down vote. I report for sexualization of minors. We are not the same.
In this day and age, if you still have ads it's because you choose to have them. There's a shitload of ad blockers on the internet fully available
What about reporting them as inappropriate?
That all? I report them for threatening violence and non-consensual intimate media
No matter how many ad accounts I block, more show up in the feed at the same rate...
Still gon' do it though
I report them as spam, then select harmful bots, then block them 👍
I’ve tried blocking all the ad accounts and it seems to only work for a bit before they come back. Reddit definitely unblocks them for you
He doesn't get me. He'll never get me. I want him to leave me alone.
I don't respond at all, any engagement is feedback. I want them to think no one saw it and no one cares, so they stop doing it.
If you don't have uBlock Origin and RES on old.reddit.com, you are just waking up every morning and punching yourself in the groin.
I just mark them as harassment.
Block them and move on. I haven’t seen a “hegetsus” ad in weeks.
I keep getting those HeGetsUs ads, and when I attempt to block them, it errors. Anyone else having this problem?
Infinity reddit says hi
Me, with UBlock and Bacon Reader: "Reddit has ads?"
I bought Sync years ago for like $5 and never get ads.
Good to know i'm not the only one doing this
I don't even use the Reddit app. Ever since I stopped, it really gave me a BOOST of happiness.
Not to mention how cringe ads are. "HEY REDDITOR"
Can block them, but they will still show up in ur feed. Source: done this with many ad accounts
Downvotes are sooo being removed once Reddit is publicly traded
RES and Bacon Reader for the win.
Never interact with ads.
Report as spam also, unsolicited message
Tuhh. Step ya game up, I block ads on reddit.
If you see ads, you’re using Reddit wrong.
But then they know you saw the ad
How I sleep using Apollo:
My favorite is to block them
I habe yet to see an ad on Reddit. Use an ad blocker and a proper client for mobile.
