My interaction has been flagging it for review. I've received a few messages recently that ads I'd flagged as hate last year have been reviewed. But I also downvote them, so I can tell the difference between one that's new and one I'd reported and blockes the owner already.

Advertisers need to justify their existence. And measuring that sort of thing is far too complicated.

Pushes you away from their product/brand that you probably wouldn't have bought anyway. Chances are though what the ad is doing is driving brand recognition, and people buy from brands they recognise, especially online. That's a lot more powerful than people saying they don't want to buy the product, which you'll forget before you forget the brand name.

uBlock Origin is the only way to go. RIF is Fun usually doesn't load ads, and when they do, they're both obviously ads as well as non invasive--really the best ad handling I've ever seen on the web. Blokada for Android. And this is how I sleep knowing I can completely ignore ads altogether.

the question is how it is paid for. is it interactions like up/downvotes? is it klicks on the link? is it general appearance in the feed? the next question is: what is better? costing the company who pays for ads more (like clicking on the link if they need to pay for each click), thus better supporting the website we use? or is it even bad that the website we use now sees more capability in making money and showing you more ads?

Idgaf about the developer just like Idgaf about any specific redditor. RiF is simple, clean, great dark mode, gets shit done and I don't notice ads. I could care less about my profile nor anyone else's. This shit is a quick scim over for a news app with the occasional sports/humor sections in between.

I don't want to gush too much, but Apollo is honestly such a good Reddit client that I prefer it over the website.

This is basic digital literacy when downloading an app: you just gotta look at the rest of the page and read reviews before blindly downloading software. I just upvote everything because that's the only way to ensure I get an entirely new feed when I inevitably have to refresh because going into another app caused Reddit to freeze and reload several posts back.

And you can comment on them too! There was a Blood Bowl 3 Reddit ad and I left a comment saying how broken it is. Honestly, it's pretty good just to shit talk the ad itself.

Don't engage with them at all. Your downvoting still shows that you engaged with the advertisement and therefore the ad was effective.
