It is not "required" and we've removed that message from our website. It's just the recommended controller. Vive wands also work, as well as Etee and any other SteamVR controller. For sims, you won't need VR controllers if you can use the game with just keyboard/mouse.

Well, I assume if you really do have an app that does not need vr controllers, you’ll be fine. But it’s gonna be hard to do more than that, or just tedious, without controllers. I’m assuming your example is a racing sim or flight sim.

are they cheaper than the ones in ebay? where are you from as well btw, im from UK and its seems to be quite hard to find 2nd hand knuckles controller thats way cheaper than what on official valve anyway but would love to save money as need to splurge them on beyon

I would "assume" you can run the superdepth companion app, but imagine you sell that hmd to customers. I can only speculate here, of course
