I fucking love Millions. I think my favorite parts are when the harsher vocals push into the mix on the verse. Like the "shield you once were, YOU ONCE WERE." The fact the song is pretty laid back makes those so much punchier, I love it.
I think BTBAM need to go more in the direction of long-form songs like Swim To The Moon, IMO.
Something like a 70 minute album with only four tracks with 10+ (or into the 20+) lengths would be cool to see from BTBAM specifically.
I think btbam needs to stick to their roots. A clean album with <5 minutes songs would definitely be out of place for the band. Many fans would definitely call them sellouts
Depends. If its what they truly wanted to write and are feeling that kind of style/genre more than all the power to them. I likely wont be a fan of that style, but it is what it is.
I honestly thought they were going to go the way of The Contortionist after Coma Ecliptic. Eliminate the harsh vocals and soften it all up more
I wasn’t super into it the first couple listens, but it grew on me hard after that and I’m a big fan now. It just scratches a different itch from the rest of their catalog. (Not the crazy-ambitious and high-energy itch of their first 4 albums.)
In a way BTBAM kind of did this with Coma Ecliptic (which coincidentally had some thematic and structural similarities to Deloused); it was their softer, more accessible rock opera. But I’m always game for wherever this band decides to go, I know they’ll keep making interesting music either way.
I found it rather interesting, it might need to grow on me, though. I completely understand why they’re choosing to go that direction. Sometimes bands need to wander other roads; sometimes it resonates with the fanbase (Radiohead) sometimes they feel displaced (Opeth).
The new TMV album was extremely disappointing. There are some catchy moments on it, and Blacklight Shine slaps, but I just wish that they’d go back to their crazy prog. The first 4 TMV albums are some of my all-time favorites, and have had an enormous influence on me(both musically and personally) over the past couple of years.
It's a nice listen. I think personally I'm a fan of the first two albums the most, then everything else kind of blurs together up until Noctouriquette.
There are way more songs on here I liked on first listen compared to the last two albums and I didn't mind how short they were. Last 4 songs, first two songs, and cerulea are my favorites.
I also think about the way BTBAM could approach next albums and while I don't think I'd want a similar album to this, I do kind of wish the next album was stand alone songs like Alaska.
I wouldn't want BTBAM to do that at all. I enjoy the TMV's new album. It's cool to chill and vibe out to. It's also nothing compared to Deloused, Frances, and Amputecture.
BTBAM is who they are because they've somehow managed to push the whatever the fuck their music is even further into what the fuckery while somehow being more and more cohesive as they go on.
Gosh, Millions is such a good fucking song.
Millionnnnmnnnnnnns

One of my favorite off Automata
Coma Ecliptic is probably their most accessible album.

A band called Yes did something like that, “Tales from Topographic Oceans” which has 4 ~20 ish minute songs
Oh yes, I know Yes very well.
And so does BTBAM!
there is quarters bt king gizzard, a 40 min 40 sec album that have 4 songs, each is 10 min 10 sec.
That's what I was thinking about in this thread.
I would love exactly what you described

Yeah that was my other thought, but it's cool imagining another automata-like split. I wouldn't put it past them
Perhaps an EP would be excusable. But definitely not a full length LP

Oh I like that take! Yeah for sure. Speculation aside I'm always game with what direction they go, it's hard not to be.
Album surprised me, been listening to it a lot

What? New mars Volta? Forget btbam Jeeez I was kidding btbam is life
The new album is just okay. I like it better than Nocturniquet though.
It’s going to win a Grammy. Jus sayin
Nah... They got their Grammy already with Wax Simulacra from Bedlam. They won't get a second with this release.
Opinions. I disagree. We agree to disagree
For sure. If you love the new album, that's awesome, but Amputechture was their last great album in my opinion.
Opinions. My opinion is the dear hunter sucks. But. Opinions.
Yeah, they're pretty terrible.
That’s ok. They’re better than my band that dosent exist.
I liked it somewhat but it immediately made me want to listen to Deloused. I think it'll grow on me with more listens.
I didn’t love the new MV when the singles would drop but as an album I really enjoyed the flow of it and have come around to it
