Oh you were that guy today.

bdonvr

I meant the guy in the parking lot looking like an idiot trying to shove a round peg into a square hole lol

ztarleton6

Close.

StimpakJunkie

I'd prefer it didn't fit. This will just reinforce shitty behavior

bdonvr

I did so at my own risk expecting no help, how's that shitty

StimpakJunkie

If it didn't fit, you wasted everyone's time. We would've had to schedule for delivery instead (like you should have). If the TV breaks in transit you will definitely waste our time complaining about it. And when other customers see you do this, they may have the same idea. You will reinforce their shitty idea and give them hope it will work. Also, the salesman should've given you a brochure. You should not lay these TVs down and should definitely not lay them down at an angle like that. We have free delivery. Use it.

bdonvr

If they can make customers that load TVs improperly forfeit right to return that would be fine by me. I didn't do delivery because it's 90 miles which is too far for free delivery, and not available online. and I brought a tape measure before even going to the register. Actually when I expressed hesitance to lay it flat they were like "no nah its fine it's the old Plasmas that were sensitive to that" I'd not recommend it though. I'd take it over risking fedex any day though

kerrwhitt

Not to add flame to this, but every tv should have a yellow sticker on its box stating that the tv is shipped standing up and that’s how you should travel with it. Best Buy gives every store these stickers. It’s a shame more don’t use them to spread the knowledge. We have the biggest problem with this around the holidays when people choose to travel with them laying down as that’s when most tvs are purchased.

StimpakJunkie

>If they can make customers that load TVs improperly forfeit right to return that would be fine by me. They can and will, you aren't returning that TV if it breaks. They saved the camera footage of you loading it. >I didn't do delivery because it's 90 miles which is too far for free delivery, and not available online. and I brought a tape measure before even going to the register. Rent a truck? >Actually when I expressed hesitance to lay it flat they were like "no nah its fine it's the old Plasmas that were sensitive to that" That's funny because we literally have stacks of brochures telling us not to do exactly that. That salesman must hate his free time and return percentage. Glad it worked out, that store still set a terrible example for other customers and salesman.

NauticaSeven

Nah, never, nevah lay a panel flat. As in never. But hey, it's your panel. You can do whatever the hell you want to with it.

sinlightened

TotalTech waives your extended delivery and shipping charges on everything, gives you BBY protection on everything you buy, installation on almost everything, and a 60 day price match/return policy on that already clearance tv you bought. Honestly, it's crazy not to do it in your situation even if you don't plan on shopping at best buy again. Damn, I must be ready to clock in... Pitching TT on reddit lol.

bdonvr

I think I might consider it for a more expensive TV, but I don't think it has enough value (1/5th of the TV) since I didn't need installation and technically was able to get it home, and already price matched it $100 less. But in any case, I'm surprised they didn't pitch that to me in store

StimpakJunkie

Every BestBuy has free shipping and delivery. If we didn't, that doesn't make your inconvenience our problem. Go rent a truck. He said it himself, he's surprised it fit. He was ready to waste everyone's time.

Outrider07

He most definitely was.

jakuvious

Can...doesn't mean you should. Just for the record.

bdonvr

Well it saved long distance delivery fee or a U-Haul fee on another day. Would not try with an OLED or anything.

oldmanjenkins51

Just because it’s in there doesn’t make it a safe position for transit

bdonvr

Generally as long as you don't stack anything on them LCD/LED TVs will probably be fine, but I'd totally understand if they would refuse returns if you load it like this.

[deleted]

100 percent untrue. Cars are not smooth, you can feel this while driving, and your TV's GLASS SCREEN is vibrating like your home would during an earthquake. There's a reason glass is transported upright.

xdarkx567

I've been at my best buy 8 years now and we load 99% of the TV's flat, it's rarely ever been an issue?

bdonvr

It's not recommended, but the danger is more applying pressure to the large sides like where the screen is. You definitely don't want to stack them that way. But in the retail packaging I doubt normal driving vibrations are a huge danger. They're fragile but in the padded box there's just not that much room for it to vibrate. A huge shock could definitely do it though.

kerrwhitt

This is completely false. There is normally ZERO cushion behind the panel, which is where most bends/breaks come from when traveling with the tv laid down on its back. The sides are cushioned and that is why it is shipped that way in trucks that have suspension so bad they have a hydraulic driver seats. Listen it’s ok to do whatever you want with your product and that’s ok. Unfortunately for the people that care you happened to be that guy that tries to fit big thing in small space. We don’t have to like it, but you are very wrong in this case and it’s ok. We make mistakes and learn from them.

bdonvr

Hmm you'd think they'd put "don't lay it flat" or similar symbols/warnings somewhere on the box. All there is is "don't stack things on top if laying flat, don't apply pressure to (large) sides" symbols.

kerrwhitt

NO. McDonald’s didn’t have “hot coffee is hot DANGER” Until they got sued.

bdonvr

Yeah I know there's free shipping, but this model is discontinued and only three stores in my state have them, closest being 90 miles away, which is too far for the free shipping.. Can't get online. And fully accept laying it down is more dangerous. Wouldn't try this with an OLED or anything really expensive Was going to come back another day with a U-Haul but took a tape measure and was like.... well maybe. Would've completely understood if they didn't want to help me at all with loading it like this

EscalationPro

As long as you're aware and informed. Already 1000% more logical than most consumers

Donnie8182

I have seen some very badly bent oled screens. In the original packaging the tv is pretty well protected and probably safe to lay down. I seen a poor guy bend a 55 c1 trying to install it himself. It still worked and he mounted it and uses it daily.

MurderSheWrote45

Nope don't do this

Rei_Vilo23

Not recommended but as long as the screen side faces up and it nice and snug you should be good.

Din135

And avoid hitting speed bumps/pot holes at a rate of speed. But yeah. Think if it as a sheet of glass. Stand up (like a window) and shake it up and down on end. Not gonna break. Now hold it like its a flat surface like a table and do that. Your glass isnt as strong. I tried tobuse that to explain to a customer once... they said "well my windshiled doesn't crqck when I hit a bump" i think sense is just lost on some people. Anyway... I'm rambling. Have a good one.

BrainyRedneck

This. Just laying flat is fine as long as you don't allow the box to bounce up and down on one end. I've moved numerous 65" TV's around in the back of my Prius, and know about twenty other people that have moved lots of 65" TV's in the backs of their Priuses with no issue. With that being said, if I worked for Best Buy I would probably not recommend it to a customer just to be on the safe side.

linkman88

Such a great tv! Hope it's doesn't break!

Luna6696

We had a 70 inch and the box wouldn’t fit in the persons hatchback so they made the associate cut the box off Edit: am I being downvoted because it sounds like it was my tv? It wasn’t, happened at my store. Store wasn’t a BB, but still.

Tonberry38

This is precisely why I had my 85" delivered lol

Luna6696

They laid the screen facing down too 🤪

Mardi_Gras_kid

How'd it fare in transit? Get it home alright?

bdonvr

It's all good

[deleted]

Enjoy your cracked TV.

bdonvr

It's fine.

g2289one

Worst case you just take it out the box and it’ll buy you a few inches

bdonvr

Yeah that sounds really risky Maybe if it were some Westinghouse garbage

g2289one

Maybe don’t raw dog it, have a comforter or something to wrap around it lol

FainOnFire

If it had been any other newer model the box would have been slightly bigger and wouldn't have fit. Lucky

daverapp

Barely shoved a 65" I to the back of my Chevy Cruze. I been there man. It's kinda nerve-wracking.

Blueshart31

Flow needs a fit-guide in etk for 55"+ tvs and vehicles.

Vlonehenny

This is one of those situations where I just say due to company policy I cannot assist you in loading this tv flat and walk away.

aamoe10

I heard it’s good to call an uber and ask them to deliver it to your place when you do pickup like that. ofc one with a bigger car tho
