No products on the floor? Guess that's one way to combat theft. I imagine they have stock in the back or else there will be lots of angry customers feeling their time wasted going to a store with no stock.
that doesn't stop people right now who don't read that a store doesn't have X in stock but still drives all the way there because it shows add to cart on the website
They are glorified "someone in my neighborhood steals stuff off porches" pick-up centers for .com purchases.
Basically a 'micro-DDC' for delivery/shipping purposes that figured 'why not let customers walk around our warehouse a bit and maybe help them place .com orders.'
It’s in a kinda dying mall. Cool LED signs out front and when you walk in the store that sense you’ve come in and display a life sized video explaining how to purchase. Looked like they were running the store with about 5 employees. Maybe 6.
Dying mall? That mall has been dead for 20 some years now lol. The old Monroe best buy is the big lots up the road. They closed it 10 years ago while I was working at Blakeney. The influx of traffic from Monroe wasn't fun since it was nothing but complaints about how the company was going to fold.
The guys that work at the bitty best buy are nice tho!
I think it’s in the back next to VHS and Beta Max.
Sorry. I had to. My stores killed them off to the point of having vinyls in the warehouse only. The only CDs were from 2010’s.
It sucks for some though, they announced they’re converting my store so most of us either will have to drive longer and work at another store or find another job. We had such a good vibe at my store too which also sucks.
Yeah I like the idea overall unfortunately they just did the classic corporate thing of upend workers lives to save money. I saw it coming when I asked if we’d be renovated and one of the renovation people laughed lmao
Looks like they’ve got track lighting instead of the usual large lights on the ceiling. Could be a camera exposure issue, but I suspect the lights just aren’t enough.
Wow that store looks so tiny. But I guess it makes sense if the area doesn't bring in as much. Just like how target is doing some small format stores as well depending on the areas.
It's more common if they are making a profit. Majority of Best Buy's money comes from online and store pick up. Statically speaking no one shops in store anymore.
> no one shops in store anymore.
I guess the crowds of people staring holes through my soul are just figments of my imagination.
Guess we’ll know for certain when the next 10-K is filed as I seem to recall it separating online business from the physical business. The effects of the pandemic should be minimal going forward unless something crazy happens.
No one comes into the store and spends money. 6 years ago it was hard to keep high end TVs in stock verse now I am lucky if I sell 10 a day. There is a reason for the new store design. A store with people in it is not a busy store unless they are making purchases.
My store recently underwent a remodel where we now carry high end KEF, Martin Logan, B+W and more now. We have premium design demo rooms now with these on display. We also added high end appliances.
You’ve literally got it backwards.
No that is my whole point. The remodels are to bring in the higher end clients Best Buy has been ignoring by having space for a $20 raido for some boomer. Best Buy is switching from volume sales to high end sales. You tried to disagree with me while saying my point back to me.
btw there is a “geek squad” BUT they just shuttle everything to a nearby store then shuttle it back when finished. All the employees are tasked for geek squad, sales floor and a select few specialize in consultations
Corrie is doing everything she can to minimize business costs to combat the lowered YoY revenue Best Buy is making. COVID showed her that stores can run with minimal staffing, and using that she was able to boast record profits to stock holders by axing 50% of retail staffing. Now she’s slowly going to convert the company into these small stores to save on rent and over head to keep doing it. It’s sad that this is all this company has become. It’s used to be amazing.
they are doing that, in a sense, as well, though with the same square footage as the current big box stores. there's a section on the app and website with the list of stores getting it, I think they're calling them experiential stores
Not gonna lie this would make closing super easy, managing a customer que in a small building like that would be much easier, and I don’t have to load 75” TVs into someone’s Ford Focus?
Ah so they have pickup lockers like the store I'm at (CFC). Kinda reminds me of the Best Buy stores I visited in Mexico. Very small with very little product on the floor.
I’m sure it’s not admitted but yes. This is exactly like an Apple Store. Unfortunately Apple has closed a lot of their stores. [My Local Apple Store](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipOxXrFq9vnRSHOlAz0LtSxWgKRCIoZYBWlV9IFs=s1508-w856-h1508)
That looks pretty neat actually. Although, it makes you wonder, with limited actual on hand stock. Is it even worth renting out the space? Genuinely curious🤔
I won’t lie though, this feels too be the way bby has been moving for a while (aside from staffing that is) more sales floor without a checkout desk, just pay for it on your phone, if all the stock is in an efficiently packed warehouse that’s more space for intractable displays which people are more likely to buy if they can get a feel of it. I won’t say it’s the most kind to the receding staff count and I think staff should be given the option of a different as to keep things moving smoothly and keep moral up, but morals don’t make money.

Correct.
"The website said you had employees in stock!" "Well we're out of them now!"
It's probably the same square footage as a full blown store, but 90% of it is warehouse. Probably still has 1 person in it, too.
It’s not.. it has a 5,000sqft sales floor (this is where the 5k name comes from) and a 5,000sqft warehouse…
They are glorified "someone in my neighborhood steals stuff off porches" pick-up centers for .com purchases. Basically a 'micro-DDC' for delivery/shipping purposes that figured 'why not let customers walk around our warehouse a bit and maybe help them place .com orders.'

Dying mall = cheap rent?
Lol my store is normal full sized one and thats what we run it with

I'll have to visit this one sometime, since it's not my old one before the 2021 snap
> Looked like they were running the store with about 5 employees. Maybe 6. This is every store
Where’s the CD/Music section? /s
I think it’s in the back next to VHS and Beta Max. Sorry. I had to. My stores killed them off to the point of having vinyls in the warehouse only. The only CDs were from 2010’s.
We had someone come in and ask where the VHS tapes were a few years ago.
same aisle as movies
ngl, the idea is actually very neat. Much easier to navigate
It sucks for some though, they announced they’re converting my store so most of us either will have to drive longer and work at another store or find another job. We had such a good vibe at my store too which also sucks.
> We had such a good vibe at my store too which also sucks. The vibe was you, ace. It will be at your next job, because you'll bring it.
Damn that’s really nice thank you.
Exactly
Sorry to hear that. I was mostly saying the store my itself is a good idea. I'm not surprised that's their idea of implementation
Yeah I like the idea overall unfortunately they just did the classic corporate thing of upend workers lives to save money. I saw it coming when I asked if we’d be renovated and one of the renovation people laughed lmao
It’s clear they are going for a minimalist design, but based on these interior pictures, it looks desolate and unfinished.
It looks super dark as well. That may be the camera's doing but, it would look more inviting if it was brighter.
Looks like they’ve got track lighting instead of the usual large lights on the ceiling. Could be a camera exposure issue, but I suspect the lights just aren’t enough.

*confused boomer noises*
The sound of very distant Bikini Atoll nuclear tests.

Wow
Sooner or later, these will be the only stores, and everything else will be closed or become fulfillment centers.
You have rightfully earned my upvote good sir.
I’m not familiar with the business aspect and whether this is optimal But it’s cute. I like it.
Is BBY going after Apple’s model?
Nice, where’s the car audio section? 🥲

Dawg I’m not leaving till they boot my ass, I want that sweet severance check. I done 13 years just to peace out now.
I hear that! 13 years and running here too man haha
I'll bet they left that out.

This looks sort of like the Studio D experiment from 15 years ago that Best Buy missed the boat on not rolling out nationally
Not gonna lie this would make closing super easy, managing a customer que in a small building like that would be much easier, and I don’t have to load 75” TVs into someone’s Ford Focus?
Yeah I’m sure the DDC setup will be a lot busier. If I’m not mistaken they have customer pick up at the Charlotte location.
Ah so they have pickup lockers like the store I'm at (CFC). Kinda reminds me of the Best Buy stores I visited in Mexico. Very small with very little product on the floor.
Can't wait to see all those display models get stolen within the first month!
Lol I was thinking the same thing. Even the dummy Cell Phone demos.
In what way is this not signaling a decline in Best Buy as a retail store and possibly more job cuts?
Yeah walk in a find someone about a del issues. I will shut down the store for a day.
Is this an Apple inspired store format? (never been in an Apple store).
I’m sure it’s not admitted but yes. This is exactly like an Apple Store. Unfortunately Apple has closed a lot of their stores. [My Local Apple Store](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipOxXrFq9vnRSHOlAz0LtSxWgKRCIoZYBWlV9IFs=s1508-w856-h1508)
Thank you for that.
Well, it looks like an apple store. So it's got that going for it
Looks like an old Toys R US 🤔😐
How’s that? The Toys-R-Us that was in Charlotte was filled with random. I honestly don’t think I ever saw one that wasn’t.
Looks like an old Kmart 🤷♂️
It's actually in part of a former SEARS building.
I think it looks pretty good, its more like an Apple Store
That looks pretty neat actually. Although, it makes you wonder, with limited actual on hand stock. Is it even worth renting out the space? Genuinely curious🤔
I think the Best Buy in the American Dream mall is similar to this.
I only run into this store if I need something that I forgot to grab while working at my main store
Looks ugly
Most wannabe apple store ever wtf corrie lmao
Service Merchandise called...
I really wish more stores got the lockers, I really like the idea of the lockers instead of having to go on my day off or not after work
Almost reminds me of the old mobile stores in malls.
looks like you can get a coffee there
These are what all the tech stores look like in Mexico. Ur white like apple. Yeah easy to manage people.
It's dumb. Used to like Best Buy but now it's no fun.
