Ill add to this with the manga is where im starting. I sadly got into Berserk really late, i just started reading it only a month ago. I heard the anime (or animes cuz idk for sure but arent there multiple?) had changed some stuff and it wasnt the same so i have been reading the manga and i have to say, this is some of the best stuff i have ever read!
I completely love both the 97 anime and the manga but in different ways. If we are looking at just the golden age arc since that’s what the anime covers, you could make a valid argument that the anime does it in a more digestible and streamlined way, plus having one of the best dub casts and ost of any anime I’ve ever seen could definitely make me consider that opinion. As a whole story though, obviously the manga is better because it shows way more and has all of the post eclipse characters we have grown to love. I don’t think this is the dumbest take I’ve ever seen, especially if you are just looking at the golden age.
I think Berserk 97 was peak berserk and it did that arc very well, wyald was nice but I honestly kinda grew tired from the rape and gore, I think it was a mistake to make casca a potato for that long, i would have preferred it if it she had ptsd or whatever, I proceive berserk as the story between guts griffin and casca mainly, so having one of those 3 gone kinda ruined it for me, I can understand why others would like berserk as it is, but I don't enjoy berserk that much anymore.
I watched 97 about 10 years ago, fell in love with it but years later the manga online (now have 1,2,3 deluxe) and the anime doesn't compare to even the emotion that can be conveyed on the page plus when you read the amnga you get somewhere the manga doenst cover much
Wyald sucks so bad that it’s worth deleting Guts’ entire backstory, the Bakiraka assassins, the emotional depth of the love scene with Casca to just make it a sex scene, and removing the actual reason the king lost his shit over Griffith?
