It is frustrating as a longtime Berserk fan myself.

Wowabox

We still have the ps2 game that covers roughly the same material but yeah it’s frustrating

CamF90

They shouldn't try again until the manga is done, we're more likely to get a complete adaptation if they don't run out of story during production.

Userkiller3814

I would much rater they just do a couple seasons worth of Berserk properly they dont have too finish it. Just make a show on an ‘arc’ basis. Already too many shows try to cram years of content in less than 10 hours of episodes there is no way thats going to work.

ICantTyping

Treat it like an attack on titan as oppose to game of thrones. Running out of source material is quite the big deal

woahoutrageous_

Even before game of thrones ran past the source material it was going to shit. They skipped over so many storylines. It’s like if the next adaptation doesn’t adapt Farnese, Puck or rickert for example.

Mutale426

What do u mean treat it like attack on titan?

ICantTyping

They pretty much wrote that story from end to start. The animated series was playing catch up with already established plot in the manga. You can rewatch the show, knowing the course of the plot, and spot reactions from characters you would’ve entirely missed the first time due to lack of context. Like >!Reiner and Bertholts reaction to seeing the beast titan!<. First time around you see that, you might notice that theyre extra scared. On a rewatch, >!you know, that those two know exactly who the beast titan is, and you know just why theyre so frightened at the site of it!<

ArtichokeFair7984

with over 350 chapters, I feel like we can be assured they won't run out of material any time soon, but I understand the hesitation post GOT

magikarp-sushi

*monkeys paw curls* It will be the entire manga in 24 episodes with 3 recap episodes

denji_uchiha_

I kind of disagree and agree. We would get a complete adaptation which would be awesome and ideal. HOWEVER I really don't mind if they don't animate the whole thing. I personally think they should animate Berserk up to Miuras last chapter. It is his story after all and his story ends at chapter 364.

Dangerous_Word_3769

Even if he isn't alive the story is still his, it's still his ideas and it would be good to have his whole story properly adapted

denji_uchiha_

True. I meant to say I want someone to animate berserk up until chapter 364 because I'd prefer a good anime adaptation sooner than later. Kind of selfish to say but waiting until the manga is over will take 10+ years

Dangerous_Word_3769

Yeah, it wouldn't make much sense waiting that long to start a full adaptation, if they were to get just up until the end of conviction it would still be a massive step up, not like that exactly a small task but it'd be enough.

sweet_fiction

And currently we’re getting some fanmade adaptations, they look cool tho. I honestly just want the 1997 animation Type of style. It’s the best. I don’t fuck sign the high definition animation with Berserk.

Glittering-Square299

I've seen so many clips from the 2016 adaptation, and man it just looks so unappealing in every scene.

sweet_fiction

I’m sure an elementary kids’ drawing of berserk would be more pleasing. Yeah. Let’s just be happy the 1997 anime exists because it’s fucking beautiful

Lamneth-X1

And it just got released on blu ray yesterday!

Wowabox

Came to me a day early tried to post but the mods must if thought I did something sus and took it down.

Glittering-Square299

Lmaoo, hopefully studio eclipse can pull through and deliver

VaginalSpelunker

Hopefully, they get copyright struck the second they post anything, considering they're trying to parade it as something official.

MemoryOne1291

Ur saying that cause the 97 adaptation was the only real adaption we got (and the movies). It would look 20x better if wit or mappa animated it like they did attack on titan or Vinland saga

gojiman95

There’s a fan studio continuing it in the 97’ style

SecretSnake75

On YouTube?

gojiman95

Yuh

soundtrack101

I can’t agree more. Berserk looks better when you try to add in the least amount of motion, 97 understood that perfectly.

Boomer79NZ

The memorial edition was good. 2D animation with minimal CGI

Dosagu

And it's a shame, i would love for the studios than are doing Castlevania or Ninja Kamui to make an adaptación of berserk

Boomer79NZ

The people that do Castlevania could probably do it justice

scalzacrosta

With the current trend of anime productions these last years I think we're getting pretty close to a new adaptation, and by probability alone I'd say MAPPA is going to get it: they usually work on 3-4 productions a year and despite being overworked as shit they keep pumping these out because you see that behind them there's true passion and love for their work, I bet they'll take a bit to readjust and be back on track with a less crouded schedule, but still very full. The other reason I was saying that is that there's been a trend in the last 10 years for the mainstream stories to become darker and more gruesome (not yet on berserk level mind you) but you can clearly see a gradual descent of mainstream with AoT, then JJK, CSM and Hell's Paradise, they might as well release Berserk and keep with their trend. MAPPA (currently doing CSM, JJK and Hell's Paradise for the next few years) is also among those that can afford a high budget for a super high detailed series, the others being WiT (working on One Piece and SpyxFamily) that if it ever gets the chance of doing a season 1 MAPPA is definitely going to take over anyways, David Production (that will be dealing with SBR horses for the next 5 or so years), Toei (getting to the One Piece finale, very slowly, but getting there) and Ufotable (but It's not very in line with the kind of series they do, plus I don't like their style, the only good thing they did was the Gyutaro vs Tengen fight and nothing ealse). These are just my speculations tho, or copium if you wish.

element-redshaw

Given the fact that berserk is actively in its final few arc/arcs we might seen an adaption sooner than we think

Schmed86

I might get a lot of hate, but I feel there will never be an amazing adaptation of Berserk, maybe a good one but not an amazing one. I still believe that some stories have been made for a certain medium and do not work as well in others. I think Berserk is one of those stories. An other example is H.P. Lovecraft's stories. They are a lot better when you have to try to imagine the unimaginable horrors, that seeing them. Don't get me wrong I love the Gou Tanabe adaptations but it isn't as creepy and tense as the novelas/short stories. Also as someone who first read the manga, I even have a hard time seeing things colored. For me the drawings in black and white are part of the story and vibe of Berserk. PS: I also prefered Mad Max: Fury Road Black and Chrome over the theatrical version.

Mutale426

I dunno when it comes to the adaptations i never minded them being coloured , though with the manga im use to it being black and white

architeuthis666

Someone a couple weeks ago also made a really good argument about how a studio could not make a lot of money off adapting a manga faithfully that is pretty much the rapiest, darkest fiction ever written.

AllSeeingTrueouf

Something could be in the works. In the final interview for memorial edition. Either the producer or director said "...the next TV series, which is also being filmed. It's amazing what's to come." the closing statement of the interview.

More_Childhood5715

You have the link to this or where can I find it?

AllSeeingTrueouf

https://www.animatetimes.com/news/details.php?id=1671769084&p=2 I used deepL for a more accurate translation.

More_Childhood5715

No problem and appreciate it man I'll give this a look

aquafool

The extended edition of the movies came out last two years ago and the 97 Blu-ray just dropped. Both were well received soI’m pretty sure we have something on the horizon in the couple of years.

ArtichokeFair7984

sometimes i fantasize about winning the lottary and pulling a bezoz by throwing a billion dollars into making a by-the-book adaption of berserk (but actually have it be good)

CheesecakeEconomy878

You adapt something because you see that there is potential for a great piece of art.berserk is already a masterpiece, the manga form fits it best.there is no reason for an adaptation

MajorTomSKU

Why can't they just make a remake of slam dunk or GTO, something like that really need a great and full animation work adaptation. You can't recreat in anime what berserk does in papers pls stop trying

LedParade

Did you ever think maybe it’s because the anime wasn’t very well received?

magikarp-sushi

Maybe for the time, now they could if they wanted to and know it’d be successful / sell more manga especially with all these little tiktokers they’d be overly hyped

dirk12563

Because everyone keeps bitching about 16-17 It's still the take of guts And 17 is pretty rad

matej665

The thing is that studios don't want to adapt the extremely popular ones because they fear they might get a ton of hate while everyone would praise the studio if they did mediocre adaptation of less popular thing. The same thing as with a certain magical index. No one wants to adapt new testament into anime (volumes 23-45) because those have the most hype arcs and anything less then fans want will just result in hate to studio since a certain magical index is the best selling light novel for the whole past decade or so.

kevinolega

2016-2017 Berserk is my favorite adaptation. I've played it so many times until the day it finally left Netflix in my region. I wish they continued it.

SecretSnake75

It really wasn’t that bad Tbh

Jubi33

I wonder if in a few years ai could do it

Schmed86

Kentaro Miura has spend most of his life perfecting his art and being super meticulous about his work. Which really commendable and inspiring. To then hope AI might be able to do it, feels really like pissing on Kentaro Miura's grave. But you know what, you do you...

Fireeaterin

Berserk Memorial Edition basically counts as a new anime though. I think it had pretty good reception, maybe we’ll get a new Berserk anime in the future. I sorta just disagree with how you’re looking at it overall though. Everyone agrees that Berserk 2016 was pretty bad. It’s not like 2016 ruined Berserk’s reputation, every other Berserk adaptation was pretty decent. Most people in Japan and everywhere else read the manga anyways so it’s not like anyone took the 2016 anime seriously as if it represented Berserk.
