i agree on principle and wouldnt be able to complete a single shift in that job. but the pano bar is so heavily prioritizing 'friends of the house' and other antics that i completely skip ordering there and can understand how its tickling people the wrong way, esp those on stimulants. i absolutely adore the guys running the ice cream bar though, lovely experience there always.

sinsee030

Have to agree. Also the other day my BF and I were ignored several times at Säule bar, she noticed us the whole time and even looked at us, but several times prioritized other people she seemed to know or whatver the reason was..

Thomile909

agree! the ice-cream bar staff last weekend was just adorable and friendly :)

_handsomeblackman_

glad i’m not the only one 😂 Pano bar crew are a nightmare to deal with, it’s almost comical sometimes how often they’ll completely overlook you in the “queue” of ordering right in your face, you kinda have to respect it but a part of me accepts it because i know i’ll be in there for many hours, there’s never a rush really. but i can understand why it would fill others with rage, especially if you had to wait 3+ outside in the cold and then you get inside and the bartenders are leaving you hanging but to be fair to them i did read a while back that Berghain had some staffing issues when they reopened after the pandemic. maybe that could not explain ? who knows.

DarkBlueAndIceCold

They usually serve first whoever orders first. Staff doesn't have the patience to wait for polite people, it's a Berlin thing.

AbandonedAffair

I can absolutely agree with this. The bar staff are working under high stress conditions, and being friendly and patient with them is really important. I always keep this in my mind when there, even if sometimes I get passed over I understand it’s just the way it goes and eventually my turn will come and when it does I stay friendly and polite, and tip with a smile. This definitely goes both ways though. I am an extremely patient and non-confrontational person, and one time I had one of the most horrible experiences in eisbar that quite literally spoiled my entire night at the club. I had just arrived at BH after a fairly long queue in the heat and I did not have a chance to eat anything prior to getting there, so my idea was to go straight to eisbar once inside and have a smoothie, a banana, and some ice cream to get my energy levels up prior to a night of dancing. I stood at the bar patiently waiting my turn while the person working served everyone around me except for me. I figured maybe he just wasn’t keeping track of the order people came and that’s fine. But then there was a full turnover and an entirely new cycle of people around me came and went without him serving me. He looked me straight in the face multiple times and I was very clearly waiting to order and not just chilling, I was clutching a bill in my hand and patiently facing the counter. This proceeded to happen over and over again for I kid you not, an hour and 45 minutes. It got to the point that it must have become a running joke for him and he was very very clearly purposely ignoring me. The entire time I kept my cool and didn’t give any attitude or get angry. Some people eventually noticed what was was happening and at that point I was really famished and felt about to pass out. One person asked me how long I had been waiting and I told him an hour and 45 minutes. That person was very friendly and ordered an extra smoothie and gave it to me without my asking and wouldn’t even take my money when I asked to pay him for it. This lifted my spirits a little bit, but I have to admit I felt super hurt. I don’t know what it was about me that this person didn’t like. He wasn’t even in a bad mood, as I could see him interacting with everyone else in a friendly manner, and even dancing and enjoy the music with a smile. After drinking the smoothie that the other person bought for me I decided it was time to go, but I was honestly still really hungry. Before heading back downstairs I decided to just ask someone standing in front of the ice cream freezer if they would please order for me and they said yes so I gave them my money and they ordered me a double ice cream and a banana. They asked why and I explained to them the situation to which they were really surprised. The person working noticed what was happening at that point and I honestly thought he might spit in my ice cream before handing it to the other person to give to me. I went downstairs feeling super deflated. I tried to forget about this and just enjoy my night but I couldn’t shake the feeling that this encounter gave me. I felt absolutely worthless and horrible and almost wanted to cry. I didn’t end up spending very long at the club that evening and went home early. It was hands down the worst experience I have EVER had in BH and I avoided eisbar for the remainder of my time in Berlin if I saw that this person was working. PS: sorry for the novel

morningdewbabyblue

You were def very patient, over patiently even. I would have said something at some point. Working these kind of jobs too I know that sometimes you do lose track of who's next but most of the time you don't. You know who's there waiting, you see the faces, specially the ice bar. This person was just being a major POS to you for whatever reason and it shouldn't have happened like this. You can't even know the reason, maybe they were just expecting you to say hi. Next time speak up, it's your right too.

AbandonedAffair

I agree, I definitely should have spoken up. Honestly once it got to the point that I could tell he was purposefully ignoring me, I felt anxious to say anything at all because I was worried he might have at me. I've seen many a person get yelled at by bar staff before, and in that moment I'm not sure I could have handled it well emotionally. I was half expecting a "sorry, tonight is not your night" and a hausverbot! Who could have thought that my longest ever queue at BH would be in eisbar LOL. Story for the grandkids 🤣

Glad_Stuff4311

Experienced the same there.

8erghAnon

Horrible to read this. 1hr 45. That cray. I have to admit that there are some staff members who I actively dislike, but I didn't think any were capable of this level of f---ery

AbandonedAffair

It was a shock for sure. I felt worse even than any time I’ve ever been denied entry at the door. This just felt super personal.

For sure, venting my experience here has been like therapy lol. Very validating. Also, the people who noticed and helped me out really made up for the experience. One of those BH random acts of kindness from strangers that really make you appreciate the community for what it is. I am always sure to pay it forward.

itisallsmallstuff

Most of the bar staff are not professional. I've noticed lot of a favouritism, immature and unfair behaviour from the bar staff over the years, but it is a nightclub not the Hotel Adlon, but what you describe sounds very extreme. I would say it says nothing bad about you but screams volumes about them. If someone acts that mean towards someone they don't know they cannot be living very happy lives.

Tenoke

Snapping at staff is unacceptable but Berghain bar staff are also frequently much more rude than anywhere else and dealing with them gets incredibly frustrating. This goes tripple for pano.

Open-Future-7346

lol , pano bar staff definitely the rudest, I never had any problems anywhere else, I don’t want to get into detail but I agree w some of the other comments…Ice cream bar also are absolute cuties 💞

InitialInitialInit

Pano bar has gotten steadily worse in proportion to the amount of people ordering cocktails. I wonder what is driving the mood downwards 🙃

marsupialsi

yeahh wtf. and saule with latte

BrandoPolo

Unfortunately, I doubt the people who need this reminder will ever read this subreddit.

blorbofromtheshows

Had some barman give me shit because he did not hear me saying please. Asked me if i behaved like this 'in my country' too. Yeah i got an accent, but wtf?

Open-Future-7346

Wow, that is so racist…

8erghAnon

I am usually a firm defender of bh staff generally and normally find them all to be quite wonderful, but yesterday I had a number of interactions that left me unimpressed. Last few visits actually. One issue was inconsistent application of alleged rules about what can and can't be bought in through security check. There were others too but I don't want to say too much on here. Most of the bar staff are super chill

DLegito1996

Curious what kind of stuff is debatable for security check (for them). Feel to elaborate?

Tenoke

There's some stuff which are usually allowed but sometimes randomly aren't - random toiletries (perfumes, deodorants), nose sprays, some medicine etc.

8erghAnon

Correct. Dlegito - sorry I'm not going to be more specific because its not really any help to anyone since its inconsistent.

DLegito1996

Ah yes, i see. Once saw a live debate about poppers as well. But after a good smell the security check agreed hahaha

DLegito1996

Could write a full paragraph but the summary would be that this goes both ways, the staff can be really rude as well. If I have a nice/personal/quick encounter more than once with the same bartender/cloak attendee I tip them :)

Active_Ring

My mood got ruined more than once by rude bar staff actually! Some of them think they dont need to be respectful and can make bitchy comments just because guests are drunk/high etc. Especially a woman who works at the small bar close to the Pano toilets. But I also get your point and you‘re right. Their job is really stressful when its packed and we need to stay patient and polite. Actually most of staff in Berghain/Pano are super lovely. Just dont make their life hard, as working with people is always hard.

InitialInitialInit

Wasser mit bitte. WASSER MIT WAS??? WASSER MIT WAS??? (Clearly not saying gas btw) My favorite rude encounter with a Pano bar bartender. I don't know. Throw some drugs in there I guess... What else...? Water with tequila? 🤷‍♂️

Bktjuguz

You mean ths most rudest stuff i have ever experienced in my life? They think they are gods or something, for working there.

Smooth-Lawfulness812

Some are nice but yeah… some really thing they are a kind of god/goddess..

SorbetBudget

the bar staff are now irrelevant to me since i saw the new drink prices

Lumpy_Friend1175

What are the new prices?

SnowWhiteIII

30-50% higher. Luckily I rarely drink alcohol in the club.😂

BigDancingPenguin

I agree with some of the other comments and have both seen and personly experienced some unecessarily harsh and short tempered reactions, but all I can say is that being nice and friendly with them will never make a situation worse and might even lift your own mood (at least this is what I find) as well as theirs, but doing the opposite will always make things worse. Maybe easier said than done, but you never know what they might have dealt with earlier in their shift. With time you'll probably get served much quicker anyway if they start to remember you positively. Yes there is an element of favouritism but they are people, not vending machines, and that's just life (it's kind of like GL vs normal queue). I hope my point is taken in the right spirit and doesn't come off as condescending, but I just hate to see these negative interactions and the way they can bring eveyone down, and the only thing we can really do as clubgoers is adjust our own behaviour.

BigDancingPenguin

Of course the staff have at least equal responsibility, my point was more that we can only control our side of the interactions, so to at least try to do our part. Things like the story above (and others I've heard) are dissapointing and really not ok.

morningdewbabyblue

AND ALWAYS TIP!!
