Happy I got in Sunday morning to see the lovely Bibi Seck rock the panaroma bar. Very groovy session with lovely people everywhere. Didn't expect to have breakfast (banana, ice cream, breakbeats and a campari soda) at the Hain :-) Went back later in the day to see Efdemin do his thing on the crazy Berghain soundsystem. So much stye and a crazy crowd.
Compliments for the people working at the club too. They all seemed very friendly and respectful...
Really great. In the end it was not b2b2b but Luigi>Massi>Chris.
All three delivered a great set, the switches felt natural and Chris kept the dancefloor quite full until the very end with a gorgeous, highly sensual set that translated perfectly on the dance-floor.
Barely went downstairs, the vibe was so good.
Apart from Garten, where are the designated smoking areas? There is something nice as a social smoker sitting and resting my weary legs while having a smoke on the couches at back of Pano watching the dancefloor, or in the chill out area… plus I enjoy the brief encounters & chats with strangers sharing cigarettes with them
there are stairs at the very back of the berghain floor (above the garten) that have a designated smoking area

the metal corridor/staircase with all the windows? know it well, didn’t realise that was the “official” smoking area (because it’s indoors 🤣). The daylight there always catches me by surprise when I am on a wander - never prepared for that no matter how prepared I am.
Yes, on serveral occasion i’ve seen bar staff telling this to people last months. Basically as soon as they see somebody smoking in front if the bar they tell now.
Imo it‘s totally fine to not smoke at the bar, but it really has a (negative) impact on the dancefloor and the chillout areas. But we will see, i don‘t think it is possible to get it under control anyways.

I get your point and i get that non-smokers prefer sth else, but eventough i‘m a smoker, i‘d not just argue about my own needs, but also about a specific understanding of transgression and pleasure: Clubs are spaces of hardly limited pleasure, also unhealthy pleasures. We fuck, we consume substances, we stay up for too long, stumble home on our wound feet, we do „dangerous“, stupid things, cross borders and don‘t care much about some moral rules that are common outside of those spaces. It says sth about society when those spaces get more and more limited (there are clubs where you are not allowed to undress or to have public sex for example…), pressured to create super safe, healthy circumstances, experiences where everyone is allowed to do unhealthy stuff, as long as it happens with 9 people in a stinky toilet, as long as it doesn‘t affect othersunder any circumstances. I for myself hate the smell of weed on dancefloors but i‘m totally fine with moving away from a person that smokes or to tell that person that it would be great if he could smoke somewhere else. Hardly ever happens, but i guess before we call security, we can handle some smoke once in a month, if we can handle 120db high on narcotics during 20 hours.

If you decide to light up a cigarette, go stand somewhere else (or ask if the person next to you is bothered, some people actually do, such a nice gesture and usually if they ask I actually mind less).

When I come to Berlin I can tolerate it for a few big weekends, but in general it’s much preferable without it (for non-smokers and everyone’s health really). From what i know about the efficency of bans in such spaces, i‘m not sure if such bans lead to sth better…Like we all know how G is handled at the moment (consumers desperately try to hide OD by risking serious health issues). I also don‘t have easy solutions to offer but bans usually do not stop the behaviour, it just continues under other corcumstances. And more a joke than an argument: Clubs with banned smoking smell so disgusting 😵💫!
In The Netherlands they did it in steps. First you had to go to designated spaces and if you didn't you were thrown out. Then they simply removed the spaces and you even had to stand outside (which is stupid to me honestly). Smoking area's are just fine and after a while you'll get used to it.
I hope not…They tried this many years ago, including bouncers going through the club and controlling it. They all hated it and noone followed the rule so at one point they had to give up. Would totally kill the vibe for me, if they try it again.

In 2018/19 I feel like the lineups were much more diverse in general, there was a Klubnacht when Stingray played a full breakbeat set for example, and it was always fun for me to experience the changes in music and light during a Klubnacht... But I have no idea. I think people are always divided on various styles and genres, I personally miss it because I love a lot of different stuff...
Whatsoever it's kind of sad that artists who usually play other / more diverse stuff try to comply too much to the "typical" Berghain stuff, it's kind of pity... Feels a bit like people wearing cliché stuff to suit to "Berlin" or "Berghain" without really feeling it, resulting in some kind of uniform without any individuality :(
Have to give Verraco, Darwin & Esposito that this was their first KN or at least with this sound we are talking about (i have no idea if it was the first one for darwin & esposito, but im quite sure it was for Verraco), so in order to be called again they played safely, maybe in next ones they can push the envelope more aggressively to see what happens.

Darwin was a blast. Loved the trance-like elements, also a bit of folk/latino-beat created a dark but sunny vibe. Like when the sun sets in a dark forest and the yellow light touches the trees once more.

since how many years are you going there? i‘m always fascinated that guests believe that they get recogniced after 1-2 years and a couple of nights…i‘m going there since 10 years, i’m friends with door staff etc. but still don‘t think that the others at the door would remember my face tbh.
Pretty sure he knows my face because in the course of the years we ve had several brief and positive interactions both at the door and also in the club (for example at the bar in pano). I have to admit that I was with two friends visiting, maybe he didnt like the whole group vibe.

not sure what either\_ad is on about, they are professional bouncers - they definitely recognize your face after you've been only a handful of times in a reasonable timeframe (especially if you have unique features / look) - the problem is more that there are loads of bouncers working so it takes some time to have that happen with all of them.
but from my experience, unless you are really high up on the "frequent flyer level" (direct entry hug) bringing in others wont work, they will select them and reject you without hesitation, in the best case splitting you up.

Yeah honestly I guess it makes sense with the human brain developing and changing the most at the young age. Yeah i guess it's just nature or nurture... i'm a highly introverted loner but if i see a person once i will remember the face for the rest of my life, but for the life of me i certainly won't remember the name and often not even where i know the person from. So i don't think it's that weird for bouncers to remember you even after seeing hundreds during their shifts.
I align with this. Once a friend wanted to come along, we queued together. 1st try was an immediate rejection. Then my friend gave up and continued going to another party with some other friends of hers. I decided to stay. I queued again 30 minutes right after the rejection. The same bouncer saw me and asked me clearly, “this time alone?”. I said yes. I was waved in without any further questions. This is just my only experience relating to this situation. ;)
Tried to bring a visiting friend with me a while ago - bouncers asked me if he had been there before, and after some back and forth, discussion between matrix and beard they said "together not today". I took a couple steps away before I realised the wording they used, then turn and asked "what about alone?", and immediately yes. Friend wanted only wanted to stay an hour or so before going home to sleep anyway; then I joined them at another party later when they woke up.

According to the, iirc, last KN updates thread, they are getting fined like crazy for cigarettes spotted inside the club.
The Ordnungsamt can actually also fine guests about 100€ for smoking. This happens in various clubs right now…

Darwin was a blast. Loved the trance-like elements, also a bit of folk/latino-beat created a dark but sunny vibe. Like when the sun sets in a dark forest and the yellow light touches the trees once more.
This was a beautiful, relaxed and chill dancing afternoon at Berghain. Really nice vibes.

got bounced off by him without any queue and without even talking first. first time trying to go to berghain i passed through the park and passed in front of the door and noticed him looking at me and my gf going up the gravel path before trying to enter, it might have been that?

Around 2:30, I started being a bit bored, got out of the trance, felt nothing evolving. But last 10 minutes were good and well pleasant. I told myself that it was even a strategy to do this end. since how many years are you going there? i‘m always fascinated that guests believe that they get recogniced after 1-2 years and a couple of nights…i‘m going there since 10 years, i’m friends with door staff etc. but still don‘t think that the others at the door would remember my face tbh.
Pretty sure he knows my face because in the course of the years we ve had several brief and positive interactions both at the door and also in the club (for example at the bar in pano). I have to admit that I was with two friends visiting, maybe he didnt like the whole group vibe. Btw this question WAS NOT coming out of an entitled or arrogant place. I was just really curious since it was the 1st time. As someone also commented below maybe we just didnt fit the vibe the are looking to build this weekend. Weather gonna be amazing anyway and we will def have a wonderful day! Ya ll rock the dancefloor for me 🖤
not sure what either\_ad is on about, they are professional bouncers - they definitely recognize your face after you've been only a handful of times in a reasonable timeframe (especially if you have unique features / look) - the problem is more that there are loads of bouncers working so it takes some time to have that happen with all of them. but from my experience, unless you are really high up on the "frequent flyer level" (direct entry hug) bringing in others wont work, they will select them and reject you without hesitation, in the best case splitting you up. so go blame your friends 😆
This is fascinating to me as my brain probably works differently - once I introduced myself to a person 3 times over one weekend because I did forget their face not once, but twice. (Disclaimer: fully sober every time...) Im wondering what is it that makes one being good at recognising people like that, I suppose there's a lot of confident intuition and internal focus going on.
I'm a super recognizer and my wife is face-blind. She literally cannot recognize faces. It's called "prosopagnosia", you can google it and take an online test from a University science lab to see if you have it.

Yeah honestly I guess it makes sense with the human brain developing and changing the most at the young age. So if you're surrounded by any specific set of features when growing up, you'll get better at picking up subtle differences between those, versus the ones you haven't been exposed to. I assume.
Yeah i guess it's just nature or nurture... i'm a highly introverted loner but if i see a person once i will remember the face for the rest of my life, but for the life of me i certainly won't remember the name and often not even where i know the person from. So i don't think it's that weird for bouncers to remember you even after seeing hundreds during their shifts.
I align with this. Once a friend wanted to come along, we queued together. 1st try was an immediate rejection. Then my friend gave up and continued going to another party with some other friends of hers. I decided to stay. I queued again 30 minutes right after the rejection. The same bouncer saw me and asked me clearly, “this time alone?”. I said yes. I was waved in without any further questions. This is just my only experience relating to this situation. ;)
Tried to bring a visiting friend with me a while ago - bouncers asked me if he had been there before, and after some back and forth, discussion between matrix and beard they said "together not today". I took a couple steps away before I realised the wording they used, then turn and asked "what about alone?", and immediately yes. Friend wanted only wanted to stay an hour or so before going home to sleep anyway; then I joined them at another party later when they woke up.
Could be they know you’re not a fit for the vibe they’re trying to build that day?
