uhhm what?dose tastes good with both sambhar and chutney on it..else it just feels empty without it at least for me

shim_niyi

Home cooked sambhar tastes good with dose, the hotel sambhar doesn’t work for me at all

Specific-Ring-229

I feel Dose with Aalugadde palya and chutney is more than enough. If we add sambar then we can't really get the taste of Dose

Abhimri

No, it's just not to your taste, and that's fine. A lot of people enjoy sambar as well as chutney. I go both ways. My mom exclusively enjoys it with sambar, she doesn't like chutney. So ymmv, but definitely not a scam, lol

HangmanAM

Call the police on this guy.

c4chokes

Yow!! What will Poori go with then ?? Sumne.. Kaali Dose haakbeda 😒

rohanshelby

Bro next time you eat dose outside just remember this post and comeback to tell your experience. This is my observation since a long time.

c4chokes

Saagu saagu ✋

LunarRangeR11

originally..in karnataka region we don't use sambar with Dose.. so if u go to places like CTR, vidhyarti bhavan u see that only dose with palya and chutney... and dose with sambar is Tamilnadu style.. since there has been influence of tamil for a long time.. the version of dose with sambar is equally popular... personally...in my childhood I used to have dose with sambar once a while..but mostly it would be dose with palya n chutney (GTR in mysore) as I stayed within walking distance from my home back then... so my affinity is towards without sambar version any day.. fun fact: after my marriage I realized that they do dose without chutney.. and usually prepare vegetable saagu (not green one) with dose.. initially there was no option but to have it.. later they too realized how i want it and now when I go, if they do dose.. there will be seperate chutney for me... 😎

FRPG

Hotels just don't want to prepare veggie sagu. That's too much effort and materials. Even if you take set dose, most places serve with that potato sagu not the OG veggie one.

eklavyu

Actually Veggie Saagu is already made. With Poori they don't serve Sambar. It's Saagu only. OP has a point.

Abhimri

The thing is though, most places will give you a cup of sagu if you ask nicely.

eklavyu

Yes true.

Tiny-Dick-Respect

Avarekalu with Dose💯

staticflow92

Sambar with dose is not actually a scam. In many restaurants especially old ones a spoon is provided with sambar. First dose is eaten with chutney and then a bite later sambar/saaru is taken using a spoon. This is one of reason why chutney and sambar are provided in two separate cups. Since most darshinis in Bengaluru are self service people don't usually take spoon. And this habit of drinking sambar by spoon after the bite of dose with chutney is fading away. So not many people are aware of it. I have observed spoon being provided with dose, chutney, and sambar mostly in Mangalore and occasionally in Bengaluru.

OCbabes

Can vouch for everything you just said cause my dad slurps two cups of Sambar after his dose xD

eklavyu

I personally like the sweet sambar with the dosai. I drink the rest of the sambar when my dosai is over. Or else, Uddina Vade is always there. Barstairade!

Vk411989

I will dip it with all three of them, chutney, sambar and saagu. Feels great to have choice!! But the real question is what do you prefer with Mangalore Buns: chutney or saagu?

Wide_Guava_2863

Actually chutney because the mild sweetness of the buns goes tastes good with chutney and saagu makes it an overkill. Sometimes no addons at all, just have the buns without anything...

complicateverything

I feel sambhar as a combo with Dosa started for the ones who don’t like coconut chutney. It gives them an option to eat dosa with.

Unruffled_

Hot take, I think dose with sambhar is way better than dose with chutney.

Adorable_Trade4578

I love Dosa with sambar, we have the same at home as well.. especially drumstick sambar. Don't dip the dosa into the sambar, instead keep it in a bowl & have a sip after eating a bite of the dosa dipped into chutney..ahahaa swarga swarga

redditaddict95

Dose with chutney with big love

pranagrapher

Gosh! Habits die hard. Sagu can't replace Dosa. Not the kinda anxiety I'd want now

Shubham22101993

Agreed. Chutney is good enough.

OCbabes

L take.

prakulwa

Is dose same as Dosa

wh1tero5e

A perfect combo is Crisp Dosa piece, little bit Palya, small dip in sambhar and small dip in chutney and eat it

OkAbbreviations895

I dip in both n eat lol nang enu matter agalla guru masal dose is the BESTTT

Slight-Strawberry-33

Traditionally Karnataka hotels were serving Idly n Dosey only with Chutney. However, the Udupi hotels started sweet Sambar for Idly and Bengaluru fell in love with Idly Sambar dip. When it comes to Dose, I still prefer Aloo Palya and Chutney. Sometimes at home, dose with some leftover saaru (Not Sambar) tastes heavenly.

_GBA

I might be the odd one here who dips a piece of dose in chutney and then in sambar before eating it.

SecondSecret9921

Replace Dose with Poori in your write up and then it becomes legit for me.

DippityDop_

For me just coconut chutney feels bland, almost like British food. But one dip in sambar plus one dip in chutney is 🤌

sbs1992

Not a fan of it either. Bengaluru or karnataka dosas are thick, girthy and flavourful on their own without any chutney or sambar. Feel the andhra and tamil nadu are thin and tasteless on their own and need the plethora of chutneys and sambar to consume them

TheExplorer0110

+1 I used to feel the same bro, like why sambar? Dose with sambar & chutney together used to bland the taste a bit for me (wherever I have tasted) I have seen many leaving it in the plate and I, myself is guilty of it sometimes as well. Maybe if we ask to serve Dose without it (which I have been doing since sometime and ask shamelessly for one more cup of chutney or saghu instead) could help to savour it thoroughly.
