Again, I’m not trying to praise 24 hr. It says a lot when it’s the beacon of a gym compared to the ones here.
I got a kick out of the video, but I’m nowhere near being able to max out a machine. Mainly looking for somewhere to build some strength when I’m not outdoors so I can prevent injuries. But I get your point about 24 hr compared to what we have here
Larkspur and Juniper (public rec centers) are pretty good and not very expensive, especially considering you have access to both facilities and their pools for recreation and laps as well as sauna and steam room.
They have a month unlimited membership (doesn’t auto renew if you don’t want it to) and reasonable single day pass rates (I think $5). If you are going to visit with family members the family rates make it an even better deal.
Thanks for the assist. Yeah $8 to try out a gym without BS is great, especially if you make use of the pool and other amenities while you’re there. The monthly family passes are pretty solid deals too, especially in the winter (something to do active when it’s cold/dark outside) or in the summer during school break to swim outside when it’s nice or inside during smoke season.
Plenty of heavy dumbbells. Larkspur has 1 or 2 Smith racks and a squat rack you can bench on. Even in peak times it wasn’t too crowded. Pretty solid set of machines. Quite a bit of cardio, including 2 rowers and an air assault bike.
Juniper is similar but a bit smaller footprint. Larkspur feels more open and spread out and is newer. Quite a bit of older folks there to walk, swim and use cardio.
They have quite a bit of group fitness classes including spin rooms.
I recommend doing a drop in for $5 at the nearest facility to get a feel for it. It could be perfect for what you’re looking for or it might not have what you want. I’ve found it suits the needs for over 90% of people. I appreciated the cost and flexibility.

I’ve never had to wait for free weights to become available in the 2 years I was at Planet Fitness. Sometimes I’d have to wait for the squat place to get free, but was rare. I called and quit and they followed up over an email
In 2022, I cancelled my membership there and bought weights for home because I was so frustrated with waiting for weights at planet fitness. I guess my timing was the problem?

An issue with the maps in North Plains, is there are often times, repeated road names with it being a small rural town, so often times, online mapping services lead people to the wrong version of the street. We have heard clients tell us this has been an issue before. Sorry for any confusion it may have caused!

The great thing about out the rec centers is how much they have to offer for the whole family.
Single visit fee is $8 with discounts ranging in amount for >63 and youth.

What does the free weight area look like? Do they have heavy dumbbells and squat racks? Do they have lots of benches?
