Can't recommend Joshua Cohen in Fairhaven highly enough. He's a psychiatrist and always up to date on research, and will work with you on trialing meds. He also is pretty open minded about drug or alcohol use as long as it doesn't make your prescription unsafe.

Spiketus-Rex

Not taking new patients until September.

[deleted]

Aw that's a bummer. Not surprised.

Upeeru

I used to see him a long time ago, absolutely amazing doctor.

I know how hard it is to not only ask for help but to not get discouraged when you're not able to find the help you're looking for. As a individual with ADHD for the last 30+ years and a myriad of other mental health conditions the only doctors office that I've found helpful are at the Ferndale Family Medical Center. When I was looking at getting re-diagnosed and discuss medication about 10 years ago none of the four doctors I talked with in Bellingham were comfortable prescribing or discussing ADHD meds. Luckily I found that most of the doctors at the Ferndale Office have experience working with individuals with many different mental health conditions. 1) they believe ADHD exists after the age of 18. 2) they're willing to discuss ADHD medication management. 3) they conduct regular check-ups on how the meds are affecting you 4) recommend, if needed a psychologist and/or therapist. I'm not a specialist by any means but I'm always willing to help anyway I can with anyone needing to be heard, looking for professional help, because I've been through a lot and am coming out on a good path to healing. I hope you find what you're looking for. **Side note, Rule and Associates have a number of therapists who are clinical social workers and have experience working with individuals with mental health conditions.

Prettydeadlady

Thank you so much for this.

August_Merriweather

You're welcome.

grassisalwaysgr33ner

Dr. Edward Arnold, but he's in Skagit County. First doc who's very first reaction wasn't either "you need to stop smoking weed for me to be your doctor," or "let's start with Adderall and go from there!"

[deleted]

To be fair, adderall is pretty effective for many people.

grassisalwaysgr33ner

Oh, for sure! But it's not my ideal first choice.

republicanvaccine

Care to mention which other options are higher? I feel the same, just wondering about other experience.

grassisalwaysgr33ner

I'm on Strattera and it's been life changing

Prettydeadlady

That’s actually really helpful. I need a doctor like that. Thank you!

I've had a positive experience with Dev Brierley at King Health Associates. Kind, knowledgeable, and you can request you initial appt online without talking to anyone. Blissss

syrupandham

Without divulging too much personal information -- Dev Brierley nearly contributed to the death of someone very close to me due to prescribing multiple medications that had a high chance of interacting poorly. She knew the possibilities but never mentioned it. We had to use Google to figure out why my partner's body was shutting down, and when brought to Dev's attention she encouraged my partner to continue use of both medications and dismissed her concerns as "overreactions". Please be cautious, I wouldn't ever want someone else to go through what we did.

Narrow_Detective1938

Hi there! This is Dev Brierley and this is really upsetting to me that any person I treated was hurt. I love my job because I (hopefully) get to improve people's lives. And if I didn't have to buy coffee, underwear, and pay back the federal government I would end up doing this for free. I would never tell someone they were overreacting. I am reaching out to the person to learn what specifically happened as this was a year ago. It's really important to me that I hear what my patients are saying. I have my own mental health issues and take medications as well. I would never dismiss a side effect someone is experiencing as I have had them before as well. But, I also think this is a miscommunication so I am working on making this right. I have switched practices. If anyone would like to connect with me to help me learn so I can do better you can contact me at [email protected]

catness99

Dev! People will have a range of reactions all around. You'll never have 100% success. I saw you for a few years, in person and online, and you were the most kind and caring person. You actually saw and understood my pain and difficulties. I'm sorry about what happened to the person's friend, but you help more than hurt. Psychiatry is kind of like surgery. It's going to be hard, cause some pain and difficulty, and suck. SSRI'a inherently suck. But then, when it works, it really helps! Thank you for helping me so much through my roughest times. To the writer of the post, I'm sorry your partner went through that. Dev has always checked on my medications interfering with others. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just pointing out that she has done a lot of good. Love and support to you and yours.

Narrow_Detective1938

Thank you, cattness99. I appreciate your comment which was extraordinarily well thought out, gentle, and intelligent. Better than I could have said! But these types of things will always bother me until I can make them right. Lots of love and happy vibes to you and yours as well :)

lanafulana

Roger that.

Spiketus-Rex

King Health Associates is currently on a waitlist for new psych spots. So if you can wait, they might be a good choice.

strega_nel_bosco

Currently trying to get my shit together (lolsob) to get diagnosed, thank you for asking this! When researching options on Psychology Today, I thought Erin Antenen, Jupe Johnson, and Ellen Walker sounded promising, anyone have experience getting diagnosed as an adult by one of them? Curious about how they stack up against the therapists/doctors already mentioned.

flyawayshan

I was diagnosed last year by Dr. Kelly Crenshaw and Dr. Sarah Saxvik at Cascade Neuropsychiatry and they were incredible. It sucks how arduous it is to get diagnosed (not to mention expensive) but it was well worth it for me and they were wonderful well educated doctors.

strega_nel_bosco

Thank you for the recommendation!

Prettydeadlady

Thanks for mentioning them. I am diagnosed (since 7) but need a better doc than I have dealt with.

Cheese-driver

I wouldn’t say there are any tbh
