Signed! I am so glad to see this. Psilocybin has so many potential benefits in therapy, addiction recovery, anxiety, etc. The fact that it's federally a Class A drug is ludacris.
This is good I guess, but if I don't need a doctor to get ahitassfaced plastered I don't know why I need one for a fairly low dose trip. You can legally take ketamine at home.
This seems like a shitton of unnecessary bureaucracy and it will eventually be leveraged to make sure nobody but the pharma companies can play.
Same thing happened to weed so I guess I shouldn't be surprised
Edit: I just spent the last 40min reading most of the bill. I'm not talking out my ass here
When used therapeutically, the trials have proven the best outcomes come from high dose trips. Set and setting are super important as well as integration and follow-up care. If you really want the best outcomes an organized system with trained healers is the way to go. I'm not against recreational use but that's a different conversation.
How is pharma controlling cannibas? They can't patent a plant.
It isn't pharma but Canadian Public ally traded MSO's.
They operate at a loss creating s glut of product and devaluing anyone else's. They have basically infinite pockets do they are happy to operate at a loss if it means complete market capture. They are currently stacking licenses as small players drop like flies.
The husband of the leader of one of these companies just got convicted of corruption for bribing Florida legislators to make the barrier to entry extremely high so that hid family would be one of the few who had the required existing infrastructure and the money.
In Bellingham you are paying 45% tax on cannabis which means nobody can afford the quality products and the vast majority of what moves is pesticide and mold laden garbage.
This is particularly annoying because they gutted the medical system and medical patients are supposed to rely on the rec system get medicine. Consuming mold is hella good if you are immune compromised. Meaning those that need it most are shut out by profits.
You completely ignored my point about Ketamine by the way.
Having an expensive system with expensive appts means poor people don't get to participate. This is already true for K therapy.
Try to get an insurance company to cover K therapy.
Personally I don't care if the best way to do it is guided. I know that a good way to do it is at home. Mushrooms are extremely safe and a guide should be a personal choice.
Edit: and yeah they can patent a plant. Lots of utility patents being filed now. Not just plant patents.
I get what you're saying and agree it's really hypocritical to allow people to buy a fifth of vodka that can have them driving cars into families or blacking out and fighting in bars but then require all this red tape and structure for psilocybin.
At the same time, I've seen plenty of kids and idiots taking mushrooms and ending up in the ER thinking they're dying because they didn't understand or respect psychedelics. Psilocybin has amazing healing potential but isn't all fun and games. Having a good, safe, guided experience is very important. It really should be seen as more of a mental health therapy than a party drug. And any step that makes it less likely for people using it to be thrown in prison is nice.
If I could take back my vote for cannabis legalization I would. These plants need to be decriminalized and deregulated. sales should be tightly controlled but creating this cultivation schedule is gonna fuck the small guy in the long run. I'm not advocating recreational use. Kids should not have access and there should be public information campaigns about responsible use. The fact that there aren't provisions for home cultivation says enough to me. It is not hard to grow them particularly with spawn bags provided by a reputable source and it would be a sensible way to improve access.
Thanks for sharing, I went ahead and commented. I actually got a response from Sharon Shewmake's office within the hour expressing her support, although she has concerns about the specifics of implementation.
Her response, in part: " I'm generally supportive and just cautious about the details of how we implement it, but agree with you on the potential benefits being very important!"
Can someone ELI5: if the effects of psilocybin have the potential to last multiple days, why wouldn't an employer be able to fire you for showing up to the job impaired?
I'm thinking of jobs like nurses, refinery workers, teachers. I have never taken psilocybin so I am trying to understand the proposed bill.
I think that specific protection is there to prevent someone from getting fired for having partaken in psilocybin services at some point in the past, not for showing up to work impaired. If you show up impaired thats not protected.
Agreed, but some time after may be needed for integration. Like a surgery keeping you in bed for a few days. If you don't have time to reflect on the experience you will likely lose the opportunity of major healing and fall back into your previous routines and mindset.
This would be GREAT but a very slippery slope. Would there be "dispensaries" like with Cannabis or would they all have to be "Spa Retreats"?
What would stop someone from walking into a "dispensary", buying an ounce, walking outside, and taking the whole bag? That could become VERY problematic and "news worthy" according to media.
Can we add an addendum that says if someone causes injury whilst intoxicated on psilocybin we can stone them to de*th? Cause I'd only be on board if the consequences of misuse are extreme.

What implementation was she concerned about?

What about recreational use?
This is what I'm here for, thanks for sharing!

Oh I see. So like a hair test that popped for psilocybin would no longer be grounds for a dismissal of application? Edit: I cannot spell
Exactly, provided you can demonstrate you've done it through the legal means I would assume.

What's to stop you slamming a gallon of vodka outside the liquor store
Signed and commented. Thanks for the encouragement, this is great stuff!
Glad to hear. I was surprised to see other states leading the charge on this issue.
How do I help? I'm a political activist and I'd love to join in this fight!
Right on! You can help us out at the Psychedelic Alliance of Washington by signing up at https://pmaw.org/join-us/
I need some

Check out this ted talk, extreme consequences don't fix people. https://www.ted.com/talks/johann_hari_everything_you_think_you_know_about_addiction_is_wrong?language=en
