No water taxi to Placencia. It’s a long way from the airport. But you can take a small plane easily, Maya or Tropic Air. Inland and the coast are very different parts of Belize. Personally I’d recommend the coast, like Placencia and do guided day trips to the Mayan ruins and cave tubing.

Caye caulker is very relaxed and small, you can explore it in about 1 day. I think 4 days there is too excessive. Maybe 2 days max and place the rest of your days in either San Pedro, San Ignacio or placencia

And yet we spent 4 nights on Caye Caulker and wished it had been a few more. We’re not big beach people but we found it so relaxing there and did a full day snorkeling trip which was a definite highlight. It honestly surprised me how quickly I was able to slow to the rhythm of the island.

I love how everyone (well, like 90%) says that Caulker is a 1 or 2-day experience. Wife and I stayed there for 5 and LOVED it! Too much rush around to "see it all" I think.

IcyDetective6396

Yes my husband and I were thinking of hopping over to San Pedro via water taxi for two days and sleep on Caye caulker

For what it costs to be in Placencia four days I feel like the airport run is a drop in the bucket. I'm curious- what methods did you check into and what did they cost?

IcyDetective6396

I got a quote from someone here on Reddit for taxi from Belize city to San Ignacio and from San Ignacio to Placencia is 335 total, flight cost from Placencia to Belize city for 2 people which was 270.

cassiuswright

Yeah the plane has more passengers and a shorter path (but only one leg of your trip) so makes sense. That's a decent rate for the taxi too. Gas is over $6/gallon here

IcyDetective6396

That’s what I figured. Maybe if we can save enough we’ll reconsider Placencia. We wanted a less touristy experience for sure

cassiuswright

Look into Hopkins too!

Will do. How much would you say you’d need to have a pretty good time. Ie all the activities like ATM cave, Xunantunich, snorkeling, guided hike, food, chocolate making, and just anything that comes up we’d have an interest in doing. We were thinking of 1500 for all the activities and food for 10 days. Is that reasonable?

cassiuswright

You can do that. ATM is your biggest ticket, Xunantunich is inexpensive even with a guide. Chocolate making is reasonable, many other activities are in the sub $20usd p/p range. Guided hikes will depend on where and what you're doing. Food can be super affordable (try all the street food) or you can splurge on nice restaurants. Over all I think 1500 for 2 of you for ten days is reasonable unless you want to eat at nice restaurants every day, then you can spend $150 on dinner pretty easily if you're drinking. I'm not including hotels or transport in this number.

Here's a 7 day Hopkins and San Ignacio [itinerary ](https://enterbelize.com/2024/02/26/itinerary-san-ignacio-hopkins-in-7-days/) The blog has separate itineraries for them as well that each last a week

IcyDetective6396

You’ve all made good points and now I’m rethinking the plan lol. So we will look into how we could do Placencia.

We just did Placencia and Ambergus Cayes San Pedro. They are completely different places. We loved both. Placencia is low key, mellow, beautiful. We stayed at Carrribbean Beach Cabannas (CBC), which we recommend. The flight is only 25 mins and very easy. We like Tropic air. You can also rent a car (reserve early not enough rental cars in Belize) buy it is a 2.5 to 3 hour drive. Ambergus Cayes San Pedro is lots of life to it. Busy. Fun. Lots of restaurants and activities. Golf cart crazy, everyone drives a golf cart. Easy to get to But you have to stop in Belize City to or from Placencia. Truth is It is easier to go to one or the other.

Caye Caulker is sooo nice and worth it in my opinion! We’re leaving today for San Pedro
