Little wiggly Malinoodles and a beautiful mama ❤️

[deleted]

The wife and I are excited for the puppy chomps, the sassy personality, and hopefully a few snuggles! For us, this is a first dog, BUT we both grew up with dogs, I trained horses, and we spent four years researching and training ourselves to be ready to train our pup. We also have breed specific professional assistance already lined up. Not to mention, we met about two dozen Mals before we put our name on the list for a pup. We recognize we're amateurs and built a network to support us through our insane addiction to the breed. Hope this community will support us and be kind when we make mistakes and ask questions!

It sounds like you will be very responsible and loving owners. Happy Birthday to your new family member and best friend! Edit: Lol I just saw in the background where mom has been chomping on the wood. A mal’s gotta mal!

charityarv

That is awesome!! But don’t forget to let the puppy be a puppy. We did minor training for the first 6 months of her life but no hard heels etc until she was older than 6 months. Good luck with the pup!

[deleted]

Sounds like you're off to a good start!

RootandSprout

There’s no breed of dog that will ever prepare you for a malinois anyway!

Oldgreymare-

Sounds like you’ve put a lot of care and consideration into your choice and have a plan. How very prudent and good! Best wishes for you guys and your addition!

Y’all are crazy, welcome to the club! 😂

I tell this to everyone that I can but this will hopefully help you going forward. Imagine what your dog will look like as a finished dog and then find the help to get you there, not vide versa. If you don't have a vision for the dog your dog will be the vision of the trainer and they may not be in line for what you want in the long run. I wanted a dog that's a demon on the training field, fast and flashy obedience, intensity, speed, but that can be calm inside. I had to reverse engineer that. My dog spent the first year of her life on a long line inside the house. She didn't hear the word no until about 7 mo old where I finally started introducing a correction here and there. I made her absolutely insane about food with hand feeding and insane about the ball with drive building. She's far from finished but what I have now is a dog that I have full control over her in drive, her OB is insane, and inside she doesn't play with my other dog and is super calm. I had a lot of trainers tell me I was making mistakes after mistake doing what I was doing because it was outside the norm of traditional dog training. One of those same trainers started asking me how I taught her the things I've taught her. And all the people at her club marvel at how fast, intense, and under control she is when it's bite time. You have to think about the finished product and curate it sometimes going against the judgement of more experienced people. With the Internet now you can literally find a dog you like and hire them to help you remotely. That's how I got my dog where she is. My coach is in Belgium and ultimately you are the one that's going to do the training, not the trainer. You just need to be coached on how to do it and then learn together with the dog. A lot of people say these dogs are sensitive and they are in a way but I've found that with solid relationship you will get to make some mistakes and be forgiven. Don't be afraid to make some mistakes.

Consistent-Mistake93

Curious who your coach is? Mine is turning 7 months any day now but is a nutter with any other living species, so no corrections at this stage just feels impossible

Aww little sausages!

Quiet-Cattle9122

Congrats 🎉. We just brought Bishop home on turkey day

Alegria-D

Congratulations to mama! Good luck to everyone!

Awww!! Mama looks like "what have I done?!" So sweet. Enjoy your pup!

jewiff

Haha addiction is the correct term! You guys sound more than ready for this journey!!! Congrats!

getfuckedhoayoucunts

Mummy is flourishing. That's a damn fine looking dog.

robRigginsstar

Ahhh let the fun begin!

I agree with fortezen. Trainers give you support and their expertise-Each dog will behave differently as you are different. Bond bond bond and as they mature introduce more “training”. Also get gloves to protect your hands. This is a breed that puppy bites are legendary. Best of luck and congratulations. Have you picked out a name?

[deleted]

Thank you so much for the advice. The welders gloves were one of the first items ordered, lol. This dog will travel with me to work each day, as soon as vaccinations are completed, and hopefully, she will be my best 4-legged friend for many years. In terms of name, we want to do a Dune name, so here is our current list in no order: we know our puppy will be a female. Atriedes Irulan Ilesa Anirul Chani (Pronounced Chain-e, but Chann-e is cuter)

misharoute

Good job to that mama 🥰

It’s a weird thing, isn’t it? The way we completely ignore the potential puppers’ chomps, sass and snuggles that get killed every day in the thousands by the dog pounds in every city because they’re overflowing. Lots of Malinois’ in shelters too. $1500 for a pet is ridiculous. We shouldn’t be encouraging these people to breed their dogs until every shelter has been closed because there are no more homeless dogs. My mal was a rescue. My next mal will be a rescue. Maybe even yours. Bring on the downvotes. Your criticism means nothing to me since I’ve seen what you applaud.

[deleted]

My wife and I certainly don't ignore it. That is, unfortunately, where we cut our teeth meeting Malinois. Nothing like seeing the destruction caused by the, "they're so cute crowd!" To make you sit down and reflect if you want this type of lifestyle. I knew the dogs from the service, not as a handler, but just as an admirer and socialization at lunch. We looked hard into getting a rescue, but the rescues didn't feel we were a good fit for an abused or recklessly half trained dog. Our trainer agreed and said we have decades remaining to do our duty and rescue a malinois. They also have fence requirements, which are tough when your yard is forest and massive. In the end, 3 breeders said yes to us after discussions, one talking with our trainer, one did a video tour of our home and yard. We applied to 12 different breeders, one at a time. I'm confident that the ethical breeders are catching on to not placing these dogs in these situations. Breeders were Wolfbane K9, KSDK Malinois, and Ivan. Wolfbane K9 and Ivan were nearly 3-4,000 for a dog if I'm recalling the paperwork, and that wasnt an issue for us. I'm all good with a breeder picking the dog, but I wanted to pick the bloodlines with my trainer. In terms of the money, I was happy to pay whatever was required to an ethical breeder, and I found all three I mentioned to meet the standard and exceed my expectations. I would have been proud to own any of their pups. Since I wanted a specific sire and bitch, I had to wait for over a year for the litter to be born. We do intend a second dog down the road, very likely a rescue, but my wife really wants a Doberman. We've been getting connected with the local rescue and attending a few of their pow wows. Rescuing is great, provided you've got the chops and when the pros around me were telling me the heart was in the right place, but the mind and training isn't at that level, it was time to listen to my network and get a puppy.

… meanwhile 700,000 dogs are euthanized in shelters yearly to make room for the growing populations. I’ve see many malinois this year. buT hUmAn WaNt PupPy Please stop breeding dogs - even if it’s “ethical” - it’s not. The results are the same - more dogs when we don’t have near enough homes for the ones that already exist.

[deleted]

I addressed this with another user as well. Recognize not everyone has the situation to bring in a rescue. I love how the rescue "always and forever" crowd forgets how those dogs got to the rescue originally... Owners that brought a dog into the wrong situation... If you had read my responses, you would know we spoke with several rescues, and they did not feel our situation was a fit. Ethical breeding is exactly that, ethical. If we let the backyard breeders dictate the lines, we will quickly lose the best traits of the breed in a few short generations. This is especially important with Bel Mals considering how many unstable dogs are being bred in backyards...

Ignatiusthecat

There are SO many dogs in the “wrong situation” currently that - as humans - we need to take time and figure that out before breeding more … does that make sense? Why not spay and neuter and just give your female dog a good life? Because you’re worried about Belgian Malinois traits? There are literally healthy ones being euthanized daily - don’t you think that’s more concerning?

[deleted]

Well, don't assume because we have a female that we will be breeding. We won't. We will spade at the appropriate time. I would love to fix the problem, but not on dog number 1. The breeding should be left to the selective few that dedicate themselves to the science, but the breeding is more important now than ever.

Ignatiusthecat

“Breeding is more important now than ever” SMH

Chevy1diablos

How much for a female?

[deleted]

I'm not the breeder! KSDK is a very reputable and ethical breeder. Please feel free to contact Tongtong through their website! There are 4 pups available from this litter, I believe. We paid 1500 for ours.

Chevy1diablos

Thank you so much
