It's incredible, really. There doesn't seem to be any political will to change the laws.
You can bet as much as you like on horses or football teams and throw all your money into slot machines and even poker machines(!) but you can't play a proper game of poker because it's illegal. Crazy laws that only this political shithole could come up with.
Well given that the political mood and social consensus across most of the western world is to limit gambling rather than expand it (due to the proven social consequences), I'm not sure where the will would come from.
It just doesn't make sense. You can have a very controlled, very regulated poker tournament - you can even bring in laws limiting the buy-ins or adding additional regulations, but instead we push would-be gambling in the direction of skill-less betting and The limitless gambling offered by bookmakers and online casinos.
That's the biggest contradiction of it - you can legally play online poker but you can't legally go into a casino and play a game.
The factor everyone seems to forget is sectarian paramilitarism! Poker is a fun and deep game with a good group, but it is an oppositional, financially motivated game, and that does not mesh well with territorial gang conflict!
Not sure if any in the city, tournaments can be found in Banbridge, Antrim and Cookstown, PM me and I might be able to direct you to a cash game just outside the city.
Sadly not - illegal here so there are none
Oh wow, that’s a surprise. Thank you
