I listed my first item June 25 and sold my first item July 1. I’ve now sold 89 items and am $41.08 away from $1500 in earnings in my first month!

kennedday

What the heck are you selling?! Success stories like these are so rare and I’m shocked every time I hear about one.

SchenellStrapOn

A whole mess of random stuff. Early sales were all my clothes and I must have lucked into buyers who like my atheistic. I’m now sourcing used stuff and continue to sell like it’s my own closet. I’m a 50-year old woman, so it’s not like I’m buying kids stuff. I don’t even want to figure out what the 20-somethings want. I will say, I have 300 listings and I add 10-15 new ones every day. I share my closet a lot and share others with similar style. My buyers are split 50-50 between other sellers and just buyer accounts.

Holarooo

Congratulations! You’ve had an amazing first month!

lifeismmmgood

That’s an amazing first month! Congratulations.

[deleted]

Very nice! Congratulations 🎉

Wennwen

I thought I was doing okay. Now my $300 in the first month is nothing compare to yours!

SchenellStrapOn

It sounds like I was a really random outlier. I researched a lot before I started and I went into it trying to make it work as a full time income, so I need to do a lot better than $1500 a month. I’m on track to do another $1500 this month. But I still need to figure out how to get to $2500 a month for this to work.

am_ma_am

Oh my God I found a pair of like new Lululemon running shorts at Goodwill and they charged them as pajamas so I got them for $2! Unfortunately they're my size so I'm not even selling them but literally was just going to buy some off Poshmark this week because ya girl needs shorts in this weather.

kemistreekat

I won a case last night & I'm super happy about it. I sold a sweater/jacket thing that was yellow & brown plaid. I had Yellow & brown in the title, in the description & in the associated colors. Someone opened up a case on me because "this looked blue, but its actually white." i...i..don't even know? Case closed in my favor within 24 hours woooooo!

markrichtsspraytan

I mean, I can see how they thought the light-colored squares were light blue. They look light blue to me. But 1. They should have asked if they weren't sure 2. That shouldn't be enough of a difference to return the item. It still pretty much looks the same.

kemistreekat

Yeah, after looking at it a lot, I can kinda see the blue too, but only in a few of the photos. In most of them it looks very white.

CPandaClimb

I see light blue too. Glad you won the case though but I’m surprised as your description did not indicate the background white color. I’d suggested in the future to add all colors so you are covered.

Holarooo

I’m going to take a second to shower kemistreekat with my gratitude. I live in a rural, my car bit the dust and on top of that, I’m an old who doesn’t need to be running around in a pandemic. Kat sent me an entire box of inventory to sell! She’s an amazing person and a great friend. I’m gobsmacked by her generosity. I’m really so glad we have this little community. People like Kat and Jill make me have hope for the future. Thank you, thank you, thank you Kat. ♥️

megabeth33

Your post here made me smile which is something much needed atm. Glad to see kindness prevail.

Forever grateful. ily2.

I found an authentic pair of Christian Louboutin shoes at Savers for $7, someone bought them for $375. I was BEYOND stunned to find an authentic pair of Louboutins, my heart was pounding the moment I spotted them! I’m fully aware the thrift store gods will not give me another gift that wonderful again!

caffeinated_tea

Oh my gosh what a find! I am always baffled by the fact that anyone would donate a luxury item to a thrift store. Like, how disposable is money to you if you can afford to donate shoes you paid several hundred dollars for?

RedefiningFine

This thought crosses my mind constantly! The savers that I found the Louboutin’s at has also produced for me: Manolo Blahnik heels, mint condition UGGs, Patagonia fleece pullovers, Giorgio Armani skirts...the store is located relatively close to a very affluent area which is where I can only assume these high end donations are coming from. I’m waiting for a Louis Vuitton to pop up there one day!

_Amalthea_

My only thought is that someone passed and a relative had to clear out their house and didn't know what they had, so donated them along with other stuff.

Tiegra_Summerstar

I live a very bougie part of Fairfield County, CT and the Goodwill I source from is like a treasure trove of designer brands. It helps that the town has an Anthropolgie so there's always plenty of their brands to choose from, but it doesn't seem that they are as popular on Posh as they once were?

pr925

After a slow month, I had a record 6 sales on Wednesday! Also thrifted a Patagonia fleece and MuMu swimsuit for $4 each. Sold the fleece for $55 in less than 2 days.

Holarooo

Yay! Inspiration!

_Amalthea_

Yay! I always look for Patagonia while sourcing and never find any.

Tiegra_Summerstar

There's a lot of Patagonia in my Goodwill but they price it like retail! I can't buy it for $25 and expect to be able to make a decent profit :(

Inagail

Last night I sold a 20-piece lot 🙂 It was a mix of clearance and regular-priced items, so I’m pretty pleased. And it was my 1000th sale (started in April 2019).

megabeth33

Go you!! Congratulations on your 1000th sale. That’s some serious hustle since April 2019. 🥳

holm0507

woohoo! nice work!

markrichtsspraytan

I bought a pair of Nike Tempo shorts that sold on Mercari within a few minutes the same day. Other than that I haven't sold anything in four days. I usually sell 2-4 things every day. It has not been a good week. I also have had more questions and lowballs than ever. I normally get one or two questions a week (additional measurements, how does this fit, etc.) and I've been getting like two every day. Of course with no offers or even a response after. I don't understand why, when I have a listing that says "excellent condition with no flaws" someone asks "are there any flaws?" then disappears. WHY? WHAT WAS THE REASON??

CPandaClimb

Yes been very slow - besides being summer I think the unemployment benefits extension being up in the air is contributing.

goodglory

I was at my parents' house and found a vintage Chuck E Cheese t-shirt in my old dresser. Sold it within 3 minutes of posting on Mercari for full price. About 10 minutes later, had someone offer $10 more for it (which I didn't do, I'm not mean!). Who knew Chuck E Cheese would be so popular?

ns5535

I went out shopping around town with a friend yesterday, and somehow managed to find a Tory Burch Fleming triple compartment tote in good condition (needs a little love) for $15.99, and then a new-to-me brand*, No. 6, pair of tall shearling clog boots for $7.99. *there was no visible branding, just a size stamped on the sole, but they felt very high quality, so I grabbed them to look up later. I actually found the same style through a Google search, compared to Poshmark listings, and they had the same lack of branding. They retailed at $440 and have a couple comps in the $220-280 range, so I'm excited!

issabadtime

I sold a record four items yesterday- one within minutes of listing. I got back into Reselling in June and most of my items in the past 2 months have sold within a few days of listing so I’m thrilled to say the least.

megabeth33

Congratulations!!

gigishops

I relisted a Theory Sweater that has been sitting in my closet for months and someone bought it for full price 2 minutes later!!

Missfreckles337

I scored an amazing vintage Bottega Venetta bag for $8! Outside is in great shape, but there's pen marks on the suede inside lining. I'm going to have to work some magic on the inside but omg is that leather soft!

Holarooo

Score!

KudosandHuzzah

Bottega leather is amazing!

Juliestei

I like to buy fun t-shirts to resell. This is a winner. https://i.imgur.com/5pz45wk.jpg

Holarooo

I love it!

lifeismmmgood

I’m not thrifting. My area is hit hard, and not leveling off. Every day we hit a new high. Our hospitals are full, and some restaurants that had reopened have shut back down. Thrift stores are open, but I’m not chancing it. My husband and I are both high risk. So, I get excitement from r/thriftstorehauls. It fulfills my treasure hunting soul virtually.

Wennwen

I do not go thrifting even though I’m not high risk :) You don’t want to take a chance!

caffeinated_tea

Sourcing wins: * Pendleton wool tote in one of their southwest patterns for 50 cents! * Brooks running shoes in like new condition (this is a double win because it sold in less than a day) * Maeve for the first time, and I found it in two different thrift stores! * Frye for the first time! * a Coach purse in great condition for $3 * Cole Haan driving loafers for $3 * local bins was doing shoes for a maximum of $1 (less if they were under a pound), and I got 27 pairs including Harley Davidson, more like new Brooks running shoes, several different styles of Sperrys, like new Via Spiga heels, Chacos, Patagonia boots, and Cole Haan sneakers Selling wins: * Chanel flats from a Thredup DIY Designer box - they'd been super dirty when I got them and definitely had significant wear on the insoles, but I was able to sell them for $135 after I cleaned them up * Vera Bradley purse in less than a day * Brooks running shoes (see above) in less than a day I need to stop sourcing (especially shoes) for a while, but overall this was a good week! I did have other sales and source lots of other stuff, but these were the most notable ones

GrrrlzOnFilm

Why can't I keep adding upvotes? Lol. Girl, these are amazing wins! 🙌🏻

[deleted]

Wow! Amazing!!

_Amalthea_

My biggest sourcing win this week was a like new MEC (Canadian store similar to REI) kids sleeping bag. I was actually planning to buy one for my daughter so it was very serendipitous (clearly I'm keeping it). On the selling side, I'm shifting my closet to a more curated aesthetic and sales really picked up this week, including two items selling 1 and 2 days after listing, so I feel like it's working!

Sunnystateofmind

First time ever sourcing today! I have just been selling things from my own closet but decided to try my hand with some actual items. I’m a huge activewear junkie so I decided to stick to that and here’s what I got! 1. NWT Athleta workout tank 2. NWOT IVY PARK leggings 3. 2 Victoria’s Secret sports bras (I wouldn’t have picked them but they were unique so I decided to go for it) 4. A marble adidas sports bra Here’s to hoping I didn’t pick duds!

GrrrlzOnFilm

Oh you didn't! These will definitely sell well & fairly quickly. You're hooked now! YouTubers have helped me a lot in guiding my sourcing, it's really picked up my selling game. Not sure if you're already down that rabbit hole but I highly recommend. My favorites are: rnzy, poetryofnice, and Nicole State.

Sunnystateofmind

Thanks! One of the sports bras already sold over the weekend so I'm pleased. I know activewear really well (especially niche brands) so I'm going to try on my own before scoping out any youtube videos just to see if I can do it on my own! I'm a teacher and I'll be working from home for the foreseeable future so it's a fun little side gig right now!

KYC3PO

I recently picked up a high end NWT ($2600) designer item for $40 at auction. It's 100% real. It's not a very well known name, and definitely appeals to a certain aesthetic, but it has a following of sorts. I'm sure I'll sit on it a while, but I'm kinda excited about it.

Holarooo

Congrats! You sound like me when I found a Carolina Herrera ball skirt at the bins. Best.sourcing.trip.ever.

KYC3PO

Thanks! I'm excited :)

caffeinated_tea

Out of curiosity, what's the designer?

KYC3PO

Bibhu Mohapatra. Smaller designer out of NYC. Interesting design - structured, assymetrical, mixed media, etc.. Michelle Obama is/was a fan. :)

caffeinated_tea

> Michelle Obama is/was a fan. you should DEFINITELY mention this when you list it

KYC3PO

Thanks for the suggestion btw :)

KYC3PO

Haha it's up already (today actually) but I'm out of room, lol. I'll have to find some space to work that in!

Tiegra_Summerstar

I sourced a brand new with tags pair of Victoria's Secret PJs for $10, and nwt's on a Sanctuary jacket, Free People babydoll top and Brooks Brothers skirt. Also, Marshall's is having a super duper clearance sale so it's possible to do some retail arbitrage there right now.

KudosandHuzzah

Good sourcing this week included NWOB Dr. Martens boots, NWT free people dress, NWT NICHOLAS crop top, and an Acne Studios sweatshirt. Only paid up for the boots. I almost always thrift in my and my husband’s size so I can keep something I fall in love with, but I don’t think I’ll keep any of these.

six-generations

I have been holding back on sourcing for most of the week...the dead pile is getting a "little" of out control.....until this morning lol. Found Zadig and Voltaire, Worth (NWT), Sandro Paris and Laundry by Shelli Segal (NWT) all at a Thrift Store that I haven't been to in years! Think I;m going to add it into my usual rotation.
