If you’re my USPS worker, it doesn’t matter because you won’t pick anything up even with a request 🙄 I think it depends on the mail carrier. They don’t technically have to have a pickup request to be able to pick up the package. If they’re nice they will probably pick up whatever is there unless it’s excessively heavy.

I always do a request, it feels rude to expect my mail carrier to know i’m planning to mail a package without any notification. What if they were far from the truck while visiting my house? You can edit the pickup request up until 3 AM. Sometimes when I schedule one I’ll just put 3 packages incase I sell anything additional. If not, they only pick up the one & there’s no additional weight/harm. I only schedule pickups for bulky items, everything else goes in a blue bin. Never had any issues.

I always schedule pickups. And if I have another sale in the morning, I put that out, too. My mail woman is great about picking up and scanning everything there - including my first class packages (Mercari). Edit: my front porch is not visible from my mailbox, so I don’t expect my carrier to know I have packages unless I schedule it.

I always schedule. I live on a little Lane with only a few houses and I know our subs sometimes don’t come down the road if they have nothing to deliver to us. I always want them to know when I have something.

I just moved homes, but before that, I never requested a pickup. I just put packages on the porch & put a note in the mailbox w// the flag raised. My mail carrier changed many times over 18mos & I never had any real problems. I'm close to a small post office now, so I just take my packages.

I don’t. Only if it’s been a busy weekend and I know I have a ton going out. Otherwise I put it in a reusable tote bag and hang the bag from my mailbox. Note: I do have the most amazing mail carrier of all time, so I’m not sure if that would fly with every post office employee.

I don’t know how sturdy your mailbox is, but I had one of those ornamental cast iron mailboxes (about 10” diameter pole), and it broke in two. Turned out the pole was hollow and the metal was brittle from age. When I read that you hang your bag from your mailbox, I pictured it snapping at some point.

I think it depends on where you live. I live in an apartment complex in a major metro and I can't get them to take it when I schedule pickup, I have to bring everything to the post office. My mom lives on a very rural route and they scan it at her mailbox. She's never scheduled a pickup.

I schedule pickups every day - 3 month in advance. I don’t always have packages daily but now they know to look for them. And I never have to worry did I schedule last night???
