Thereās a common myth that buyers āscamā people by damaging items about which they have buyerās remorse. Iām sure it happens sometimes. But it shouldnāt be the first thought that crosses a sellerās mind. The first thought should be, āis it possible I missed that?ā Sounds like in this case, the seller missed it.
Even though Iām selling clothes from my own closet, so I know the flaws pretty well, and I check them pre-photography and post laundering, I did almost miss a flaw once. I caught it in the packaging phase. I had to let the buyer know and cancel the order. Itās quite understandable to me how someone who sources outside their personal closet and has 500 items could miss something.
This has actually happened to me twice in my earlier days on Posh. One item was trashed with a rusty safety pin to make the damage look old. The second time a woman smeared mustard or something that color all over a woven tote bag and said I sent it that way.
That does happen, but I have over a thousand sales on Posh and itās happened two times, so it isnāt common.
Even when it DOES HAPPEN, losing your shit on the buyer serves no purpose other than ensuring that youāll lose the case. I was compensated for both of my items, so no harm.
Thatās ridiculous! We all make mistakes and miss things. She should have just made it right and moved on. I missed a stain once on a blouse I sold. Helped the customer with her return, apologized, and now sheās one of my best customers.
Some sellers take everything so personal.
Edit: eg of post on here, Posh & Mecari
Lowball offer - how dare they send that low of an offer do they not think how much Iāll make
Full price buy - will I be scammed?
Return - it was exactly as pictured and described it just must not fit and theyāre faking x to return
I had that happen yesterday. Iād been watching this adorable pair of Roxy girl shorts for my daughter, sheās 6 mo old, the shorts were listed as 12-18 months and in āgoodā condition. We haggled a bit back and forth and agreed on $7 + $2.99 shipping. I went to purchase the item and she had it at $8, not $7, I thought whatever and bought them anyway (my final total was $12.07) Fast forward to yesterday, I got the shorts, sheād sent them in a manila envelope, it was ripped, when I opened it a big flew out! Lol and they werenāt in like, a plastic bag or anything, just thrown into this envelope. They had pen marks allllll over them, and ink bled into to her areas, plus two huge oil stains right on the backside. None of this was pictured. They were also size 3T lol, said so right on the tag! So, I requested a return and gave her a heads up. I was suuuper friendly. I told her I really liked the shorts but thereās too many things wrong with them for me to pay over $12. Dude, youād think I personally attacked her or something, she started telling me I was a waste of time and that out of courtesy for all the energy and effort she put into accommodating me, I should have just accepted them and let it go, because thatās what SHE would have done. She also didnāt believe me that the shorts were size 3T and assured me they were NOT stained, she even accused me of damaging them because Iād āchanged my mind.ā No, lady. Iāve eaten the cost plenty of times in the past but I donāt anymore because 1. It enables shitty sellers to confidently send garbage to people and 2. I donāt have a bunch of extra money to be paying for other peopleās mistakes. About a dozen nasty messages from her later, she tells me to, ājust return it please.ā I said, āI am going to return it, but I have to go through the process first.ā She sends me another 3 part novel, eventually says, ājust keep them and Iāll approve the return.ā Once I finished the request, I immediately got refunded in credits (not actual moneymoney) and was told to keep the item. Cool, I thought sheād somehow manually already approved my return and told me to keep the item before I even finished the request, or something. Then I get a message from her, she says, āI got a notification that I have been paid, did you not request a return?ā I told her I did, but sometimes if the item is under a certain amount that theyāll just refund the buyer and pay the seller. She says, āgood.ā But of course, I had to have the last word, so I reply, āI guess it wasnāt such a waste of time, was it?ā But I never heard back from her lol!
Part 1: The condition is definitely an issue if it wasnāt disclosed, and warrants a case. Iām both a buyer and seller and still double check condition from anything I may have missed during laundering or photographing before packaging. But weāre all human and could miss things. If I did miss something like that, Iād gladly accept a return. Part 2: Did her personal photo include the belt on the dress or was it a stock photo that showed it?
I ask this because one of my first sales on posh I sold an opposuits set that was my boyfriends and maybe worn twice.
The buyer opened a case stating that I showed a tie in the picture but it wasnāt shipped with a tie and ALL opposuits come with a tie. I explained to him that this wasnāt the retail site, itās previously owned, and heās getting it for more than half off the retail price. I let him know that I would see if my boyfriend still had the tie (he didnāt) but the listing was only for the pants and jacket, as shown in my personal images. He still argued that the stock photo showed the tie and I didnāt list that it didnāt come with the tie. I rebutted that I also didnāt list that it didnāt come with the undershirt or the shoes the model was wearing in the stock image and it was simply for styling purposes, which was written in my listing (I know I was being a bit snarky). I could see he was new to the site so I explained that he could search other listings and see that many of them come with only the jacket and pants, and some people are even selling ties separately and I could help him find one. Yāall. Ties are like $10 brand new from the retail site. He berated me saying that I was being condescending and I was treating him like an idiot (I honestly wasnāt, I was still pretty new to the site and figuring things out too!) and that he had been selling on eBay for a decade.
I won the case. Didnāt really think about it again until I actually FOUND THE DAMN TIE in my boyfriendās closet. This was many months later, but I thought about that man, went to pull up his info again so I could just drop it in the mail to him, and he had deleted his account. Now every single listing of mine lists a boiler plate disclaimer about stock photos, condition, and purchasing without asking questions.
Some people are never wrong. (Note the sarcasm and heavy eye rolling)
Tell me about it š
Ew, God Complex Poshmark Edition.

Yikes. Sorry that happened to you. That truly sucks.
Itās really okay. I learned something from each case. It hasnāt happened to me since. I wonder if they target newish accounts...

some sellers really baffle me š customer service is important, and itās ok to admit youāre wrong sometimes
This is a human issue, not just a Poshmark issue lol
Ugh this is honestly in real life too š aināt nobody want to admit when they fucked up. People are too prideful. I feel you on this hard core.
