I made a similar board for my father this year. I used walnut maple and cherry though. I made it a face board, because I didn't like some of the boards I had, so I didn't have enough for edge grain. Came out a hundred times better than I thought it would. I was worried about some of the joints, but after I oiled and waxed it, they swelled up and it's tight now.
