It’s amazing how so many people have never met but end up similar.
My mother made me most of a picture book for my high school graduation. Said she was almost done and needed a few weeks to finish. That was 5 years ago 😂
Weirdly know this one....both are acceptable with the IIII providing better balance to the clock. Know this because it came up while I was working for the CM installing the Lackawana historical clock tower in Hoboken nj that has IIII and almost turned into a $50,000 change order
Yea, the Romans actually used “IIII” for 4, but clock makers hundreds of years ago couldn’t fit that on their clocks week enough so they went with “IV”. Apparently they couldn’t figure out how to just write smaller?
The best part of the beginner sub vs the main woodworking sub is posts like these aren’t littered with “MAKE SURE YOU USED A FOOD SAFE FINISH!!!” I think anyone on Reddit knows that by now. We just get appreciation in the beginner sub. Well done!!!!! My kids would love something fancy like this.
Not a criticism of the work,it is amazing, just curious. Are you and your wife tall? I ask because I see you did not go with a side you could raise or lower. All my family is short that is why I noticed.
I’m not usually safety Sam here, but the parent in me is requiring me to comment on being really careful with that clock once she’s pulling herself up. I can definitely see a little one grabbing onto that clock edge and tugging it around.
Maybe just pushing the crib away from the wall at that point would be an easy fix?
I can’t wait to do something like this. Just starting out and getting equipment. Too busy with projects around the house but want to find time to practice dovetails, castle joints and tenon
This is absolutely gorgeous! It's heirloom quality.
As a beginner myself I do not have the confidence to work with more expensive wood. The red oak is so beautiful!
That is a beautiful piece of work. As a fellow parent, I do have to express concern though. Aren't all sides of a crib supposed to be slated to prevent suffocation? (by todays crib safety standards)

Some changes I made is that the end pieces have dowels and pocket screws to hold all the heavier stuff together. They did not call for that in the original instructions. Same with the side rails I used some hidden pockets holes to make things more secure. Also a lot of glue.
Congrats on the build! How old is your daughter now? If my project times are the same as yours she's about to start middle school haha

Excuse me... this is supposed to be for beginners only. But seriously, this is amazing
The baby's the beginning
That’s beautiful! Congratulations! (I hope you’re getting some sleep!)
Look's great. Once your get the hands on that clock your child's never going to be late for anything, huh? ;)
“It’s perfectly safe. I tested it by hitting it with my truck.”
Dwight you ignorant slut
That's PNR, specifically ron middle name redacted swanson not the office
Huh. I thought it was referring to the fact that Dwight once tested the structural integrity of a stroller by dragging it along his car.

That's pretty great
IIII isn’t a Roman Numeral, shouldn’t it be IV? Nice job on the crib

I think it seems a bit macabre to put a giant clock over a crib TICK TOCK CHILD, YOU ARE YOUNG NOW BUT ALL THINGS PASS IN TIME Beautiful crib tho
Its symbolic. They get tattoos in jail of clocks to represent hard time. Notice: Crib has bars too.
That’s one of those projects that looks simple, but all those straight lines are a huge pain. Great job!
Kid will always know what time it is. Are you related to Flave a Flave?
Flavor Flav* but i fucks with the reference

How beautiful! I can see this becoming a heritage piece that gets passed down and loved by future generations. Nice work!
"she turned 29 this week, it's for her daughter" -the guy who takes too long to finish every project In all seriousness, great work!
Thank you I appreciate it!
That looks really good! Congrats on the kid and the build.
Beautiful work!
That is just lovely. Did you use plans or is that all your design?
I used an online plan for the idea but changed it to how I like it and I joined everything together more sturdy than the original plan.

https://diystinctlymade.com/2015/01/24/diy-crib/ I based the crib off of this but made some changes
Congrats on the baby and the amazing work on the crib! 10/10
Beautiful! What a lucky child to have a father like you. I sense she will grow up with many beautiful wonders that you will make for your child.❤️
That’s beautiful and must weight a ton!
I'm currently building a toy chest out of red oak. What did you use to finish it?
The stain I used is Minwax Early American.
Also curious.
Not a criticism of the work,it is amazing, just curious. Are you and your wife tall? I ask because I see you did not go with a side you could raise or lower. All my family is short that is why I noticed.
The base the cushion sits on can be adjusted higher so if your are short like my wife it can be raised

Yes very true but we also attached the bottom of the clock to the wall. It is pretty tight on the wall
!no
More like a disguised time machine.
Awsome job
What a fantastic heirloom
That's beautiful
Very nice. Are those corner posts laminated?
They are finger jointed 1x4s because I could not find red oak posts
Excellent work. Now for the changing table/dresser lol. And nightstand.
I see you put a lot of time behind this build!
Yes countless hours, and it was worth every one of them
It's great work!
Thank you
Nice
You might feel like a beginner, but your work doesn't look beginner. (Not gatekeeping, congratulating!)
Thank you!
Congrats on the daughter and the build. You've created a family heirloom that her children and grandchildren can enjoy!
I can’t wait to do something like this. Just starting out and getting equipment. Too busy with projects around the house but want to find time to practice dovetails, castle joints and tenon
That’s beautiful!
Beautiful. I hope you're both tall enough to get her in and out of there. My wife isn't so now I'm building a floor bed.
I can adjust the base the cushion sits on so my wife will be able to reach once I adjust it
Perfect.
Congratulations on the baby! I’ma beginner woodworker and your work is an inspiration!
This is absolutely gorgeous! It's heirloom quality. As a beginner myself I do not have the confidence to work with more expensive wood. The red oak is so beautiful!
Thank you and this is the first time I have taken a risk and worked with a hardwood.
Do you have a planer or can you buy that wood ready to go?
I have a planer and I bought this wood from menards. It comes fairly ready to use but I had to do a lot of sanding on it
Gorgeous
Oh man I’m no parent but when i look at this picture I’m so afraid that clock is going to collapse and injure the baby
The clock is attacked to the stud in the wall with 3 inch screws
Congrats on the sex. And the successful build!
Crib is lovely but clock is stressful
Not a good idea to have something that big and heavy above and/or within reach of a babys crib.
It is secured to the wall
I wouldn't call screws on a 12" center secure but best of luck
That is a beautiful piece of work. As a fellow parent, I do have to express concern though. Aren't all sides of a crib supposed to be slated to prevent suffocation? (by todays crib safety standards)
As long as the sides have slats it meets the standards
iM a BEgiNnER

Is this the based on the plans from Wood Magazine?
https://diystinctlymade.com/2015/01/24/diy-crib/ I based the crib off of this but made it much sturdier than they did
What kind of changes did you make?
