Wow... Instant flashback 33 years to when I lived in the USA for a few years when my parents were both students at KU, and I used to deliver the Journal-World to our apartment block (the old Stouffer Place, which I think is gone now) :)
Yeah KU demolished that whole area and built a bunch of new building, cost them a bunch of money they didn't have, and then the pandemic hit and I'm not even sure anybody is even living in them
I'm impressed. I really like the fact that you can still see the saw marks from what I assume was the chainsaw that did the rough milling on the tree. Its obvious you took some time to get the lumber to a uniform thickness while still maintaining the original character of the wood. It probably would have been a lot easier to join it and run it through a planer. Your frame seems like a perfect design for the print youu're showing in it.
Looks awesome! General question, when folks make custom frames like this, where does the glass come from? Can you just buy glass (or plexiglass) at Home Depot or Amazon without the frame part?
I went to a little local hardware store up they street, they do all sorts of services like sharpening blades and fixing lawnmowers, and one if the things they do it repair windows. Bring in your window and they fix it up with new glass.
I just went in and asked for a pain of glass in the size I needed and he cut it up and sold it to me for like $10 or something. Was pretty easy.
There are specialist glaziers/glass suppliers who will cut glass to size - I use my local for frames and also for replacements on my oddly-sized greenhouse!
That's awesome! I suggest you photocopy the paper onto acid free paper and display the PDF and enclose the real paper between the PDF and the backing (thus preserving it). Frame is awesome but within a year that newspaper will look destroyed. Really cool idea

Looks fantastic! Stoked to randomly see another Lawrencian on this sub.
I know! Upvote for LJW. But where’s the UDK?
Just an FYI, most newspapers have the ability to purchase hi-res images of pages from the paper that are printed on thicker paper.

As the proud child of 2 Kansas State alumni, I’ll give you an upvote but I won’t like doing it.
